Suddenly, the odd spheric machines begin to unwarp not far from the enemy vessels lines. They are of various volumes and look like twisted armadillos that once inhabited the ancient Terra; they are all seemed to be segmentary and composed of plated machines that vaguely resembled the now extinct species of horseshoe crabs (or smaller variations of the famous liset class carrier) linked to each other by the edgy metal "spines"

The spheres did not remain docile for longer than five seconds after each arrival, unwrapping and disassembling into high numbers of the previously mentioned "segments". Some of them proceed autonomously, others fly out chained to each other, like trains or segmented serpents. They all seemed to move organized, each single one with its purpose, blinking with differently colored lights, as if communicating or signaling to themselves.

The smallest and also most numerous drones batch into big swarms, like some of the prehistoric kinds of warm sea fish. They seem to be the simplest-built - resembling mere tadpoles - but each armed with an explosive charge, highlighting their expendable nature. The hives made of this little devils concentrate on the clusters of hostile lesser vessels such as draglyns, ogmas, and other smaller ships, blowing and disemboweling them like an explosive cosmic wind.

The smaller "snakes" threw themselves in the clouds that once were vessels, magnetizing, grappling, and collecting salvaged remnants of dead ship's "corpses" along with the tiny drones that malfunctioned or discharged for some reason. Once they fixate the nabbed "loot", they rushed away and swiftly thrust to somewhere, probably to the place they came from.

Comparatively larger "crab-like" drones split up into "wings" made of 6-10 units. They used the "wolf tribes" tactics when hunting average to big hostile vessels: two or three drones rammed their targets thrusters, immobilizing the victim, while the rest literally dug through the weak spots of armor. Once inside, they seemed to cause a series of interior explosion and cause the general havoc from within the hulls. Some of the "fighter" drones even manage to crawl back and regroup with other packs.

When the initial chaos was spread by the lesser forms of the hive fleet, a huge "sphere" punched out. It unrolled and took the shape of a large (1500 meters long) centipede. Each of its numerous segments had their own pair of thrusters, providing the compositive larger body with immense speed and agility. The great serpent made an arc to line up with one of the Fomorians. It disassembled into lesser "worms" to minimize the damage done by the deck weaponry and to hit the adjusted targets such as shield generators. Once to shield seals were taken off, the largest "piece" of snake forced its way inside the giant in order to mess with its core, just like a worm that chews into the ripe apple to feed on its seeds.

Even though large numbers of drones stopped to exist after performing their functions, more new hive spheres come out of the punch. Judging by the reinforcements frequency, It appears that they are being transported straight from the conveyor line, which would also explain the reason behind lesser "serpents" greedily collecting salvage.

Another interesting detail is the fact that the degree of coordination and maneuvers of all parts of the swarm is inhumanly precise. Making it reasonable to question if the drones are controlled by actual pilots, even if remotely.

The swarms seemed to attempt to chase the hostile fleet away from the particular area as if either making it a safe zone for the allied fleets, or preparing it for the arrival of something new, something big.

((Returning to where they came would require another rail or joining to a larger ship with a gold engine.))

The Grineer respond by sending in two more Fomorians and throwing increasing numbers of ships at it, arguably helping with the goal of taking stress off the fleet.

The reaction of the allied captains is a mix of horror and, in Ryoko's case, fascination.

"Salvage drones." He says. "Probably Cephalon controlled, delpoyed dyrectly from factory. Impressive. I must meet your chief engineer sometime."

As the elevator descends you see several traps rush by. None activate, thankfully, but it seems this portion of the base is far more heavily fortified.

You feel a prod at your mind and then Sam's voice breaks through.

"Thank you Sai'ah." She says. "Hello Zaeed."

"Called in a favor." Sam says. "Now, let's go meet up with Ryoko and Felicity and kill that Kween."

"The Kweens." The Clerk says. "Or whichever one they have not slain yet."

Max shrugs.  "This will make my diplomatic missions even more, interesting.  I'll be sure to bring some popcorn."  He walks out the door, and returns to the hut.  He pulled out the box prime, and then poured some gallium inside of it.  He clicked on the stove and set the box on top of the flame, letting it get hot enough for the gallium to begin to soak in.

Beneath the shadow of the cannons two ancient foes dueled.

The Shadow, warrior of an ancient empire, and the Architect, destroyed of that empire.

Greatsword met Trident. Waves of energy crossed waves of ice.

The shadow struck with the hatred of a man with nothing left inside but rage.

"Bucher, Mirderer, traitor!" He yelled, hammering down with his blade.

"They paid for their sins." Darrin said. "Nothing more."

There was a cold logic to his voice. This was not someone trying to justify their deeds, this was someone explaining them as a teacher might explain addition.

"The Empire was corrupt, rotting inside." Darrin says. "We out it out of its misery, paved the way for a new and better world."

"And now you seek to topple it again." Stalker snarled.

"This was not the world I envisioned." Darrin said, the barest hint of regret in his voice.

"Too little death?" The Stalker asked.

"Too much." Darrin replied. "That is why your Kweens must die. That is why you must fall."

He stepped up his attack, weaving stabs between slashes as he had seen Ryoko do.

The Stalker fell back, now pressed simply to defend himself.

Darrin preferred not use violence as the first resort. He preferred to bring about his enemies demise through cunning, not brute strength. But he had not survived this long by being a pushover. He had not reached his lofty position by being a weakling.

His blows depleted the Shadow's shields and forced him back.

Stalker summoned a shield around him and charged an orb of light in his palm.

He never got the chance to strike.

A blast of soul-wrenching power smashed through him, dispelling every sense but pain.

There were only two beings in this world the Stalker truly feared. And now the one who haunted his nightmares had obtained he power of the one who could truly kill him.

He scrambled back.

"You were allowed to survive because you were useful." Darrin said. "You provided a test for my brethren, you kept us on our toes, gave us something to challenge. But you are no longer necessary."

The Stalker activates his recall device and scrambled back further.

"If we meet again." Darrin said. "I will eliminate you."

The blast of energy almost got him. As he coelesced on the floor of his ship a horrifying truth sank in.

He had not escaped, he had been allowed to leave.

Once again he was too weak to stop the fall of an empire. Once again he had to watch that black and green demon plunge the world into chaos.

As Gallium melts at room temperature it does not take much heat for it to melt.

*Zaeed nods and heads down the hall* "Well, alltest the team are safe.."

Following the clash of weapons down the hall you see two figures cutting through Grineer.

Ryoko stands in a Frost Prime, his Orthos burning with golden fire. Piles of crystalline ash litter the floor. He cuts down a Bombard, the body joining the other ash piles.

A Trinity Prime in similar white and gold stands beside him, her Bo Prime cracking armor and bone.

There is a lethal beauty to the pair, and a unity to their attack.

Ahead you can see a guarded room. Kuva Guardians stand outside and there is no doubt what lies within.

Strangely the approaching Grineer only carry Sheev's. But you cannot see any Loki around.

"We've made contact with Richard." Melanie says over comms. "He is negotiating with Frohd Bec to gain a Corpus aid for this strike. Their fleets could turn the tide and buy us time. He also said not to shoot the emojis, whatever that means."

A crackle of static heralded the addition of more ships to the comm channel.

"That, my dear madam, would mean not to shoot US."  Four ships dropped out of punch on the opposite side of the Grineer reinforcements from the fleet.  Two Corpus dreadnoughts, a standard Fomorian with a lot more guns than was normal, and something that looked like it could have been Orokin, but had pieces of Sentient tech sticking out from odd places opened fire on the Grineer.  Each was adorned with a large sigil in the shape of a smiley face wearing sunglasses.

"I see you have some grasp of economics." Bek says. "So I won't bore you with details. This war has proven profitable. Dear and Sherri industries have posted impressive gains. Even Cestra Industries managed to finish on the green. It seems awfully risky to bet on a chance of getting a better deal."

"Which is more important to you?" Richard asked calmly.  "Making the most money possible, or destabilizing your greatest financial competitor?  When the Sentient return, and they will, and they are, which will you value more?  Having a lot of money, for which the Sentient will not care, or having a strong ally who will help you defeat them?"

C.A.L.C extended a signal to the drones, trying to reach whatever controlled them.

There is no reverse signal. Whatever controls the drones seemed to be of a remote nature, influencing these shells. The only hint that emerges is that something very complex prevents the attempts to receive additional information on the machinery and its programming.

Even though the hive doesn't seem to turn the tide, it does its job crippling the advancement of the greneer fleet. Thanks to its expendable nature, there seemed to be no end to the drones reinforcements. Another huge serpents unroll and throw its parts at the one of the newly arrived Fomorian. The lesser fighter shells and kamikaze drones seemed to concentrate on fending off the hostiles from one particular zone.

The teams used nova's wormholes to warp the rest of the group members past the scanners. minefields, triplines, pits and turrets. Two frosts, instead of hopping in inside the loopholes, were banished by limbos. They made the whole distance through on foot, pinpointing the "sanctuary" route points with their snowglobes all along the way specifically for the troops that will follow them shortly.

"Not until we deal with the current task" Teloch replied calmly, which obviously contrasted with the tone of his interlocutor.

"Command the shielding vessels to get to the safe point. Heavy artillery is about to arrive" he said while approaching the doorway to another section of the fortress "Artillery needs time to prepare"

"Your kind have proven reliable as mercenaries in the past." Bec says. "Whether for money or altruistic reasons I do not doubt you would step in to fight the Sentient, regardless of our actions today."

"Making money is what got me selected to be chairman." Beck says sharply. "The Grineer are not competitors, not when it comes to trading. They are however customers. Despite the conflict they still require some of our goods."

He holds up a hand to forestall your response.

"The Orokin brought us prosperity and you toppled them." He says. "The grineer, in their own lesser way, have brought us profit and you now seek to topple them. So tell me, Tenno, why should I invest in this UHC, when you may tire of them eventually as well? What can you promise that outweighs the profit we have already made?"

The UHC and Meridian swarm to the sanctuary points.

The fleet begins moving towards the safe point, the ships keeping up there fire.

"Warlord please open a channel to your spacebound forces so that I can coordinate with them." C.A.L.C says.

With the arrival of the new ships the tide turns back to the side of the defenders.

The new Grineer reinforcements that arrive after do little to tip the scale.

"Deploy shield patches to hull damage!" He frantically presses buttons to reroute power to shields draining 20% from the cannons.

He nods.

"The chamber ahead is protected by a nullifier shield." He says. "Our abilities will not work inside. We however, have a plan. Dixon will Manifest a disarm to make the Kuva Guardians vulnerable, however it will affect us as well. Only melee will work. We will need to move fast."
