"The Obelisk in the courtyard is off-limits." Mira says. "But if you are curious there is one in each classroom on the right wing. As a Master you are welcome to study it, once you find your way out of that sigil of course."

She steps onto the teleport pad, followed by the frame and operatives, leaving the circle of light intact.

"One as attuned to the void as you are should have no problem dispelling this trap." The spirit next to you says. "I will await your arrival in the classroom."

Unhindered by the rune he steps from the circle and vanishes.

Stabilis reaches out with his mind to the circle, feeling the resonance of the void within it.  He attempts to tame it, to slow and disperse it.

The energy begins to still, and the circle flickers. Within seconds it is inert, ready to be absorbed.

Akama steps into the room, tossing a Boltor Prime at you.

”This is not mine.” He says. “It is disappointing to see such potential squandered.”

He ignores Elise and stalks out.

The Boltor Prime is now radiating a different pattern of energy.

"We will engage the Assassin." Philip says. "Retrieve your ally, and we will provide assistance."

The shuttle appears again, firing at the vessel as it begins its bombing run, its rounds shredding through wings and armor to puncture the engines, forcing the vessel to veer from its bombing path, or be destroyed.

The corrupted swarm over the location, converting the remaining Grineer before turning their attention to the next largest group.

The Manticore troops dodge the tank shots and return fire, focusing on each of the tanks in turn, relying on the area explosions of their Grattlers to clear out the ground forces.

The Longsword also adds its fire to the mix, bombarding heavy armor locations.

Meanwhile the corrupted begin loading onto shuttles, one shuttle at a time as the others provide cover fire to divert attacks. It seems they have "harvested" what they've come for.

The orbital bombing has caused controversial results: it thinned the rears, suppressed those besieged, and rushed the front attackers to the caverns they were attacking, forcing the skirmish deeper into the mountain.

The vessel altered the route only to make a round trip and to cover the two newly-arrived armored vessels that landed pods with three full platoons of heavy tenno marines. Unfortunately, grineer have also called for reinforcements, and in their usual fashion, they arrived en masse: as an entire mothership bearing the colors of the Nightwatch.

Spoiler

The clones began to drop their elite troops featuring heavy chem teams by the slopes of the mountain in a manner of carpet bombing. The numerous bolkors also began to slip from under the belly of the armored. The swiftly winding skirmish ensued as two platoons of tenno marines regrouped, cast their amplification, and charged forth to take control of the cave's bottleneck entrance. The third platoon was dropped on one of the hill camps, taking advantage of the height and providing backup cover and operative recon. The heavy dropship, sig's mini-destroyer, and a few heavy fighters engaged the bolkors, drawing their fire and chasing them away from the advancing marines. The nightwatch mothership was readjusting its deck cannons at the longsword and preparing for the second bombardment of reinforcements.

Before rejoining the groups, Sig had motioned his previously deployed specter decoy to assist Phil and the trickster with their task. Then, he thundered his benchmark roar, and rallied the platoons to the cavern entrance, unloading overly-heated lead and searing slashes at hostiles with accelerating fervor.

The overcharged tenno and the overly-armored manticores exchanging fire with the hoards of elite grineer, the dogfight in the skies, and the approaching exchange between the big ships. Whatever is hidden in that cave, it has caused a localized breakthrough of hell upon the Martian soil.

The problem was to get into the caverns as fast as possible.

The Assassin, unwilling to risk exposure to an entire platoon, drops a smoke bomb and vanishes.

“Load Tectonic rounds.” Darrin riders. “Hold position, that mothership is too far below to hit us.”

The Longseord, Yosef st He very edge of its considerable engagement range, begins to spook up, targeting the mothership directly with a round specifically designed to destroy small cities.

Philip and Dixon fight their way to Teloch’s side. The former stands with him whiel the latter vanishes into the smoke and confusion, spreading irradiated waves of disarming energy throughout the Nightwatch ranks, pausing only to take cover and reacts his cloaking.

Alan on the other hand, sets up several electric shields, firing brought them at the Bolkor, sending highly charge rounds of iradiated lead at the ships.

The shuttles take this opportunity to retreat, covering their exit with a barrage of fire at both Tenno and Grineer.

The Meridian troops at the Mortar location readjust their fire to the Nightwatch locations.

The longsword fires, sending the round screaming down from high orbit with indescribable fury. On its way down the round releases a weak EMP, designed to disable the poorly shielded Grineer systems, while leaving the heavily shielded Tenno systems intact

Two platoons, AMPed to the ludicrous degree (from iron renewal and roars to everlasting wards and dozen of auras. Perhaps, Phil and Dix has never felt that empowered) breaks the frontline rows of the grineer and remaining armor. Sig, in particular, grew to fight like a Satan who was robbed of Monday morning cereals, combining heated burst from his not-so-light machine gun with series of tidal slashes, popping hostile infantry like microwaved hamsters and squishing the drivers of the military vehicles against the armor of their vessels with madurai power bursts. The entourage of allied chromas, rhinos, and oberons fought as zealously, using everything from their focus to the shield deployed by Alan to shot the bolkors down like files and to mow the persistent waves of hostiles with heavy gunfire. Limbos were periodically casting their cataclysms to provide cover from sporadic aircraft and vehicles fire. A couple of valkyrs were raving in guts, and one of them directly assaulted an unfortunate bolkor, clinging to it with a ripline and digging through it in hysteria. The hell was empty, all the fiends gathered here.

In all this chaos, two of the marines - a nova and an ember - seemingly received a new order when near the cavern entrance, cast a portal to its depths, grabbed Alan by the shoulder, and hopped into it, finding themselves within the uterus of the mountain and hearing the desperate gunfire within its depths. It seems like they were ordered to break the besieged free from the previous wave of grineer.

The mothership detached it's self-propelled reactive shells to mislead and soothe the fire while continuing to deploy marine and aircraft reinforcements at the peak of its capacities.

The Tectonic round, easily the size of an armored vault and fired with manual aiming, ignores the countermeasures and slams into the top hull of the mothership releasing a focused blast several magnitudes larger than its size alone would indicate, the blast propagating outwards rapidly.

Alan reloads his Soma Prime.

“A bit of a heads up would have been nice.” He says.

A decoy appears nearby, replaced seconds later with Dixon.

Outside Philip fights with a precise, almost tranquil, fury. He cuts down hordes of Grineer in quick succession, spending no more effort on them than is necessary, despite the empowerment. He seems to use the boost on strength, durability, and speed to increase the number of kills, rather than the style, or recklessness, with which he kills.

He jumps from target to target, striking between armored plates with practiced ease. When surrounded he releases a blinding flash and executes the stunned Grineer with lightning fast strikes.

He seems neither excited nor bored by the combat, despite its scale.

Thematic music, yea

Crippled but not completely dead, the mothership launches a volley of tactical-grade torpedoes as it's "dead man's grip" resort. The last reinforcements eject from it.

The fight below grows in intensity as even more reinforcements arrive by land. By now, Sig was as raving as a Satan who got his Monday morning cereals back only to find that someone had pissed in it, as in totally livid, in flames, and practicing utterly brutal claymore carving upon infantry and the vehicles with his sword, that was shimmering like a small sun. The marines took the positions around the entrance and were performing with the same magnitude of brutality - from using grineer as meat shields to using asymmetrical gunfire on their crowds.

The supportive platoon acted in the same fashion - shot the draglyns and bolkors with anti-material-grade weaponry and cork-opening approaching tanks with overcharged opticors.

Yet, the grineer were pressing on in the suicidal persistence.

The first shatters from the nightwatch mothership began to rain down on the surface, adding more spice to the picture full of blood, glazed sand, piles of charcoaled vehicles, gas clouds from all the perished noxes, and mountains of purple and camo-armored corpses. If there were any nomads nearby, they would probably think that the tenno-devils broke lose to enact in a Judgement Day.

Meanwhile, inside the caver, the ember and the nova rushed deeper in. Alan has got a text message presumably from one of them:
"[WTC] Cpt. Rodriguez M.: No time for witticism. Spark your magic, Volty-boy!"

The decreasing intensity of the gunfire below was surely sending the message - this is a timed race now.

Alan pauses for a second, then thrusts out his hand.

The group would find themselves rushing down the tunnels, suspended inside a cackling globe of electricity, whipping around corners and over chasms with blinding speed, stopping once they were within visual range of the besieged group.

Any hostiles within 100 meters of the stopping point would find themselves on the receiving end of a massive static discharge. Said discharge would be akin to the result of sliding roughly ten thousand cats along a mile of shaggy carpet, with all the fury and rage said cats would exhibit after such treatment.

Deep inside, in the debris of the caves that once were settlements for the locals, there was about ten tired, out-ammoed, and damaged tenno hurdled around something akin a huge orokin-ish tank with some corpus addendums and plating, fighting from the last strengths about two dozens of heavy grineer. Their colors and armor patterns suggested that they were the special guard of the lotus. One of them - the banshee - was frantically depleting the remains of her energy on sonic booms to win at least a couple of seconds for her comrades and allow them to engage in melee. And then, the discharge came.  In a matter of seconds, nova cast yet another portal, followed by the molecular prime, the ember exercised a very swift and flashy gun dance with her heavily modified twin grakatas. The nightwatch found themselves at the disadvantage, and only a couple of them had the time to react - a reaver and a nox managed to recover quickly and to toss themselves at the object the tenno were guarding. The reaver was taken out by the burst of the nova's primed tigris. Yet, he managed to cover the nox, who was now a sceond away from slamming into the weird cistern with the suicidal charges triggered.

At this intense moment, the time seemingly slowed down.

Dixon targets the Nox with swap teleport, relocating it a safe distance away from the "cistern". As the Nox orients itself Alan sends a charge of electricity at the charges on it, stunning it. He opens fire on the glass covering over its head, marking it for the others.

Dixon begins tossing out deployable pads to restore health, energy, and ammo. His Kavat bristles, every sense alert for any other threats in the area.

The second tigris burst squashed Nox's head like a ripe melon. The ember performed yet another firey blade'n'gun dance, dismantling the remnants in a swift and flashy style.

There were no more threats around, and the lotus spec ops visually peaked down. Judging by their motion, they were exhausted. Judging by the stains on the frames, the siege lasted more than a day or even two, and not only against grineer. Judging by how all except the banshee decided to make distance from the WTC ladies, they weren't feeling that secure.

"How did you find us, what are you doing here, and what is the situation on the surface?"  she asked no one in particular after squatting and catching a breather.

In the meanwhile on the surface, Sig turned from the frenzied Devil to the portable maelstrom of physical and thermobaric devastation worthy of a Madurai co-founder. It wasn't fury that drove him by now - it was the purified violent trance. the relentless combination of Immense physical blasts, fiery explosion, cuts of searing crystalline, and barrages of high-velocity rounds was disintegrating matter with little regard to either it was a vehicle or packs of living flesh.

The marines also gained a foothold and now were advancing in groups at the now disrupted enemy in the same manner as their leader. The desert got littered with scorched steel, thundered with hundreds of agonizing yells, and flooded with blood - a scene Verdi would never imagine while composing his famous Dies Irae

A beam of light strikes down beside Alan, and Darrin rises from a kneeling position.

"You were found using advanced void manipulation to read imprints off of items left at a abandoned outpost." He says. "They are here to rescue you, I would assume, and my forces and operative are here to assist in that regard. The surface is still being secured, though reports indicate it will soon be under WTC control. If you require immediate aid we can evacuate you now, though I suspect you are here to ensure control of the area for a very good reason."

He speaks in his typical, tranquil manner.

He opens a channel to Teloch.

"Brigadier General, the besieged have been found and the area is temporarily secured. My forces are standing by to provide extraction." He says. "However I suspect you will want to secure the area considering what the besieged were protecting."

Dixon's Kavat, without any enemies to focus on, begins to wander towards the "cistern", ears flat against its head.

-----

Philip continues his blade dance, taking care to stay out of the reach of the maelstrom. In contrast his actions continue to exhibit a refined, and restrained display of violence. He does however, seem to be in a better mood when he hears that the objective is secure.

The channel transmits only even but heavy breathing, disrupted by staggering sounds of explosions and terrified yells. There is no answer.

The message failed down to calm the spec ops, unlike the kavat.

The banshee stood up.

"I informed the lotus. The transport will be here soon. Until then, we would appreciate recovering the fallen. We lost about nine during the last two days spent in this hellhole under two sedges". Her voice grew even more frosty, "The brigadier general of WTC, you say?"

Alan kneels, searching for any imprints left behind by Tenno Oro.

Darrin does not react to the tone used by the Banshee.

"Yes." He says. "That Brigadier General. I will inform my forces to be on watch for the transport and provide what support we can. Alan will see if he can locate the fallen, unless you already know their locations."

He walks up to the "cistern" examining it.

Seeing Alan doing what he does, she just marks that "two in here, three near the entrance, four on the surface... if there is anything left from the surface" she sighed frustrated and gestured the rest of the spec-ops to take the cistern and to move to the exit. She spelled no follow-up regarding her question.

The cistern is big (four-people-to-carry kind of big), superiorly armored, and with very troublesome lights shimmering yellow. One of the lotus specs waves their head at the kavat. Perhaps licking it would not be the wisest decision.

On the surface, the number of hostiles runs dry quickly, and the marines form in compact packs to seek and destroy the remnant. After decelerating his annihilation spree, Sig caught a breather and spoke to the comms:

"Secure the perimeter and deploy the archwing search groups. Leave no survivors. I want that assassin or scout or whatever dead"

After making a couple of more gestures to the nearby marines, he inquired Phil in his usual laconic manner

"Naramon?"

Alan moves to the immediately present bodies, drawing the remaining oro into pendants with the Keeper symbol. He then motions, raising each, now slightly glowing, body up and floats them toward their comrades.

——

Philip nods. He does not even appear winded by the fight.

“I have devoted myself to amstering the way of the sword.” He says. “Once I have achieved that I may branch out to other studies.”

——

Hasan stepped onto his cloaked craft, tossing his rifle into the foundry. The WTC General was certainly a worthy quarry.

He felt the knife slide back out of his body as his limbs failed.

”Congratulations.” A voice said sarcastically. “You are now parlyzed. You will never walk again. But look on the bright side, if you answer my questions you will pass on to the next life quickly.”

His view was turned so he could see a screen. Three of his clan mates knelt before a red and black Ash Prime.

”You have three clanmates remaining.” The voice said. “I, Dirge, give you my word that f you give me the information I want, all three will survive unharmed.”

Hassan said nothing.

He said nothing as his fellow assassins were executed.

”No?” Dirge asked, consulting a holo-pad. “Well I see you have three kubrows. That’s quite a few.”

Hassan said nothing as the incubation chamber in his Orbiter filled with gas, the kubrow within scrabbling madly at the glass.
