0 SaurusRex
Are there any particular reasons why you even want to do this? The router serves as a useful firewall, among other things.
0 Llewellyn_Lionheart
Bypassing your router has a lot of implications. You really don't want to do that unless you have both a really good reason to do so and the understanding to know the impact it's going to have. A lot of providers, especially cable, require the router to be in place for the connection to function. There's several ways around that, but you have to know how the provider is controlling your access and then react accordingly. With cable, it's usually provisioned so that your router's MAC address is the only one that's allowed to pull an IP from them. If you don't compensate for that properly when switching the cables, you are cut off. Additionally, unless you are running a commercial-grade personal firewall on the PC along with comprehensive threat mitigation (anti-virus, anti-malware, etc.) opening your PC directly to the internet has some nasty security implications. Windows Firewall and Windows Defender, or things like AVG are not really that secure and don't update often enough to protect a wide-open, non-stateful connection.
