Selecting a sniper in the arsenal makes the game hang

If you equip a sniper, such as the Lanka, Snipetron, Rubico, or Vectis, while in the arsenal and hover over it with the cursor the game will temporarily freeze.

Since I currently am not in possession of every sniper in the game my ability to test this further is limited. I also tried with v-sync off but the hang persists.

I can't figure out why this issue occurs but it seems to only be with snipers.

I've been experiencing this issue since forever and it has finally bugged me enough to make a forum post. (hopefully this isn't a commonly reported issue or just a 'me' problem)
