how does Mesa's Shatter Shield Work?

In what conditions will Mesa's 3rd skill, Shatter Shield's supposed 95% damage reduction work effectively? Damage reduction from Trinity's blessing and Nekros' SoS is noticable at 75% damage reduction, but not the case with Mesa whom still receive a fair amount of damage. Does it only work againts enemies within the ability radius, or how?

Shatter Shield only affects bullets and projectiles. AoE attacks, explosions, melee attacks and DoT will not have their damage reduced. However, projectiles that explode like Bombard rockets will bounce off the shield, but the explosion itself will still deal damage if it lands near Mesa.

it works against projectiles and bullets basically.

so explosions (and other AOEs) as well as melee attacks still do full damage
