Is it just me or does the quality of the image tank when the thing mentioned in the subject is enabled? I was playing around with it today and either my eyes were playing tricks on me or i have to get my eyesight checked, but i could not escape the feeling of the image looking slightly pixelated...

That is what happens when you sharpen an image. It is just a filter, the slider controls the intensity of the effect.

TAA adds a blur, the sharpening filter is something you need to mess with to find something that works for your resolution, where you bring back some definition to the scene, but don't go too far and have too much.
