New End Game Content: Weekly Defense Event

If you don't want to read all of this massive text wall, feel free to scroll to the bottom.  There's a TL;DR.

If you have plenty of time and are interested enough, enjoy the thread and post all your feedback below!  Comments, concerns, complaints, and queries are all appreciated.

Warframe needs more end game content.  Every truly dedicated player understands this.  There comes a time in Warframe when you begin to feel like you're not being challenged.  Like level 100 Corrupted Heavy Gunners are nothing in the face of your Warframe's weaponry and abilities.  We seek a challenge.  We seek competition.

Though Warframe may never see content designed for players to battle each other in dueling competitions for prizes, we should still be competing somehow.  And I think I speak for everyone when I say the competition should directly reflect skill and ability, not time spent playing.  The Fomorian and Arid Fear events were fine, but the people who made it to the leader boards were the people who played the most, not the ones who necessarily played the best.  So how do we get around this problem of awarding play time versus skill?  How do we allow players to compete with one another without forcing them to kill each other?

The Council and I (thanks to Hellscare, especially!) talked about some ideas for how to encourage players to reach very high waves in defense missions, and eventually came up with an idea for a weekly and week-long event which will reset at the end of every weekend.  This event requires absolutely no farming/grinding and is based almost entirely on player skill and not the amount of time a player has.  Here's the idea in its entirety:

An abandoned Orokin tower (this means the event will use the new abandoned Orokin tower tileset, ideally) located on a large asteroid has been discovered and all factions now compete for the resources and technology inside the structure.  The tower is the site of many infestation experiments by the Orokin and as a result will contain all three enemy factions.  It also has retained some of its defensive properties and as a result will apply a nightmare mode-like debuff to all Warframes that enter the area.  After fifteen waves of enemies (first five would be corpus, then the next five would be grineer, then the next five would be infested) you will get a choice to extract and let other Warframes take over your work, or continue to defend for a chance at getting on the leader boards.  If you extract you will recieve special rewards such as multiple fusion cores or tower keys, but you may not place as highly on the leader boards as someone who continued.  If you continue and fail to defend the objective, a support team will arrive promptly and rescue you, recording your contribution to the operation.  You will not get the multiple fusion core/tower key reward, but you will have a better chance at getting to a higher spot on the leader boards.  The enemies will get tougher and the fight will become more punishing as the game continues, forcing Tenno to show their true strength.

Edit1:  People who are at the top 10% for the event will receive the top-tier reward for the event.  Maybe some special mods or weapons that are unobtainable by any other means (i.e. rifle ammo mutation, snipetron).  They may also be able to choose from other rewards, such as a bundle of three forma, or an Orokin catalyst and reactor.  Those in the top 11%-25% may have fewer choices, such as Two forma and one reactor or one catalyst.  Those in the top 26%-50% may have even fewer options, such as one forma or one rare mod.  This will continue on and everyone will receive a reward for competing, even the lowest-ranked (though the reward will be very insubstantial, perhaps just a bundle of low-level fusion cores).  (credit to X3Evanescence for this idea instead of my original top 100 idea)

This event would give players seeking a challenge an opportunity.  The difficulty is only limited by what other players can achieve, and the rewards could be great.  This also give players who may not reach the top 100 an opportunity to gain some rewards in the process.  Ideally these "consolation" rewards should change from week to week to keep things interesting, and not keep the default fusion core/tower key bundle option forever.

This event caters to the casual players and the most hardened of veterans alike.  And, very importantly, requires no grinding.  You click on the asteroid from the star chart, go to the mission, and attempt.  You get as many tries as you want and there is no punishment for failure except all the normal repercussions such as loss of certain mods that you picked up before the checkpoint.

Most importantly, this event could be a stepping stone to bigger and better things.  Week-long events that constantly reset with prizes for the top players could be a theme that Warframe adopts to blend PvP (something a lot of people want) and PvE (something the devs want to remain faithful to) together.

Lastly, thank you for reading and please comment if you have any ideas that could help polish or flesh-out this concept.  Doing so could cause it to get the attention of the devs and thus give it a better chance of becoming a reality!  Any support is very much appreciated!

TL;DR:  Add a continuous event mission in a new area of the star chart where people compete for the weekly top 100.  The top 100 will receive special rewards at the end of the week, and then the leader boards will reset.  Even if you don't ever reach the top, there are also some prizes just for attempting.  Adds endgame content and promotes player growth.

Ugh

If they have a similar one that uses the Survival mode the devs have been talking about adding, or boss rushes, or literally anything other than Defense, that would be cool. F*** Nightmare's annoying-but-not-actually-difficult debuffs, and F*** people being forced to play Defense to get items.

I think the rewards for getting into the leaderboards must be not based on the top 100, which is barely even 1% of the whole community.

Leaderboard toppers are doing it for the sake of recognition.

For rewards pertaining to leaderboards, this will cause rage and unhappiness in the forums as people feel that it is unfair.

Instead, I propose leaderboard rewards based on percentage you are in.

For example, top 10% will get X.

From 11% to 25%, you get Y.

And so on and so forth.

Leaderboard rewards based on percentage is much more acheivable and motivate more players to strive for the events.

They wouldn't necessarily be the same nightmare debuffs, just something to make it more of a challenge than your standard defense.  Perhaps energy drain to prevent ult-spamming or something that buffs your enemies to make them quicker or more damaging.  And you wouldn't be forced to play to get the items either, it would simply be another way of obtaining them.
