Log in screen goes bananas, then crashes the game.

I boot up the game, the log in screen background looks like a jackson pollock painting, and when I log in none of my ship decorations are there, and if I try to go to navigation the game crashes to desktop. I really do not want to reinstall the whole game. It would take literal days to redownload the entire 40+GB. Please help me understand what is wrong with my game.
