  1. Sorry kiddos, it's still an MMO.

The fact that people have urbandictionaried the definition of "MMO" into being the same as "MMORPG" (which is what WoW is) is irrelevant.  The overarching definition of MMO means "any game played online simultaneously by many people with cooperative or competitive play".

MMO is the top tier definition.

MMOTPS (Third Person Shooter) is the 2nd tier definition.

Just like MMORPG is WoW.  Or MMOFPS is Call of Duty's multiplayer mode, Unreal Tournament's online multiplayer mode, etc.

In fact, what defines an MMO is what it's built purpose is.  Warframe is BUILT for multiplayer.  Solo play is an addon.  Call of Duty ITSELF is not an MMO because it's split evenly into a single-player campaign and multiplayer gameplay (but the multiplayer portion can be considered such).  However, Planetside is considered an MMO, as is Dust 514 and Mag.

Can you answer a couple of questions? I haven't played all the games you named, and I'm a little fuzzy on how they're categorized.

In your opinion, what's the single biggest difference between Planetside 2 and Unreal Tournament online multiplayer? On a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is "not at all similar" and 10 is "very similar," how much are those two games alike?

Same question for Warframe and Borderlands 1/2 online multiplayer: What would you say is the biggest difference? How similar are they?

  2. Car/house invalid the way it's stated. No one hurt anything you have or had. Afterwards you had everything the same as prior to (or you had more).

It's more like, I heard about a rich mechanic that was giving away free houses if I got an oil change, but it was a limited time. I found out afterwards that you got a free house for buying an oil change and I didn't. Me, I'd congratulate you and go on smiling that someone was so lucky. People here, would have all the free houses given out burned down and hang the one who gave them away.

Let's say you bought your house for $250,000 last year. This year, your job got relocated to Kansas, so you have to sell your house. But some rich mechanic gave someone 40 houses he can't use, and he's selling them all. Now your house is worth $125,000, you're underwater on your mortgage, and you can't afford to move.

  3. Every thread like this is just someone that can't get over missing out on a nifty looking item. Happens when you introduce an endgame killing machine like the BRAKK and people dont get it.

Its a reward, like every other unique item, to be rewarded, you need to earn it. Filling out the Codex is, imho, a lame excuse for "Make exclusives non-exclusives".

And quoting The Rolling Stones, you can't always get what you want.

I wouldn't be surprised if a minority of posters are using the Codex as an excuse to get free stuff, but most people who bring up the Codex are sincere. Different parts of the game appeal to different players. Some play this game so their clans to top the charts. Some play this game for an MMO experience with events and prizes. Some play this game to switch their brains off for an hour or two. And, yes, some play this game to check off all the boxes in the Codex.

Completionists' priorities are no less and no more valid than your own. It's an unusual and fun way to approach games. Studios have been aware of it since the beginning - from the Heart Pieces in Legend of Zelda, to Gamerscore on the Xbox.

  4. sorry, never saw anyone helping a fellow tenno with ripline, bounce or switch teleport.

just trolling, hope some day DE understand that powers like these should not affect other players.

I like having a Loki or Valkyr around when someone tries to screw up the enemy spawn points on mobile defense.

  5. @JollierThanThou

What I meant by "testing out the game mode" wasn't so much how much the community enjoyed it (though there is that aspect as well) but more of a way to do a very quick stress test.

If they just put in the mission they might find a dozen bugs in the first few weeks.

If instead they put it an event with rewards for running it over and over again they could find maybe a hundred bugs in the first day or two.

Basically its much faster feedback on whats broken/not working/slow.

Thats why they use events to test new game modes.

    Okay, I'm tracking now.

  6. @Rafarix

And I'll point out my earlier point again:

Why would I grind out through an event for a skin that I can't colour or personalize in any way? There are people who got the WTV but hate the colouration for it. The only did the mission because it is its own unique gun with different stats. Without having the reward be unique and useful you would see event participation drop. And DE makes the events to either:

    A) Get a lot of people playing

    B) Test out a new game mechanic

So why would they do something that could prevent a lot of people from wanting to participate in the events?

This is the best defense of exclusive items I've yet heard. I can't debate that they get more people playing.

On your second point--testing out a new game mechanic--I fear exclusive items could distort the results. If you look at the Gradivus Dilemma data alone, the Invasion mission type appears to be a rip-roaring success! Thousands of less-active players suddenly signed on and played the new missions exclusively for 8-10 hours. Now that Invasion missions are in the game proper, however, their reception has been lukewarm to negative.

  7. There are a lot of posts in this thread extolling games that emulate the unfairness and deadlines of life. Honestly, though, the games that strive for fairness are much better at separating me from my money. I've spent twice as much money on StarCraft II as on Warframe, and that game has literally zero gameplay-affecting exclusives.

  8. I don't want Warframe to turn into a cover-shooter.  I want it to be more rewarding of skill and to do that, the AI needs to be smarter.  If you have suggestions as to how to make the AI more challenging without causing them to be more "cover-happy," I'd love to hear it.

I think the cover-shooter "feel" comes into play when the only counter to cover is to take cover yourself, and then choose the correct tradeoff of accuracy versus exposure. But what if you could also use mobility to counter cover? Perhaps a hypothetical group of cover-happy Lancers has 80 percent accuracy against a Tenno jogging straight toward them, but only 9 percent accuracy against a Tenno wall-running to flank them.

Under this scheme, options open up for the AI too. Maybe, in the Void, the neural sentry sends Corrupted Crewmen to sprint along a balcony and drop down behind Tenno in cover?

  9. I'm done complaining. I'm done asking for change. I simply want this post to serve as a warning: If you are a completionist, Warframe will bring you nothing but frustration.

    Problem Items DE has fixed:

    Grineer Eviscerator (12 December 2013)

  10. Wait what? People are actually taking this game seriously and being competitive? Wow. And here I was just having fun killing things now and then.

You would be surprised. If it can be "won," someone will take it seriously. Did you know there's a world-record speed run of The Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse for SNES?

  11. Why does the "gold medal" analogy persist? When you win a gold medal in a marathon, you don't get a half-mile head start in the next one.

Primed Chamber provides a concrete and measurable advantage on the leaderboards and in Conclave. Look at the Tenn Os' record-breaking Damage 2.0 defense run, for example. Their results were largely due to their teamwork and tactics, but Primed Chamber played a role too.

  12. Mastery rank 14 is almost impossible to get. You will have to level up ALL market weapons and still, you will not get to lvl 14 unless you got at least 4 event weapons.

I don't even think there is a player that has reached level 14 yet. I don't see a 35% damage increase for leveling ALL WEAPONS AND WARFRAMES as gamebreaking.

The formula might change though.(table moved)

Remember that each level takes more than twice as much effort to achieve than the last. So my original formula seems pretty balanced to me.

This is actually the biggest reservation I have about this suggestion. Right now, a closed beta player can hit rank 14, and a new player can reach no higher than 13. No matter how skilled, or clever, or dedicated the new player is, the old player simply outperforms him in all scenarios. The old player has exclusive access to an additional 5.97% damage.

Fast forward to Update 13 or so. DE releases a bunch of new weapons and holds some events. The new player is now rank 14, and the old player is rank 15. Now the old player's advantage increases to 6.81%.

This damage boost sure gives Mastery value, but it leads to an ever-widening power gap between old and new players.

  13. SECONDLY. The people who are hating the exclusive packs. The word "EXCLUSIVE" stands in there for a purpose!

EXCLUSIVE is "limited to a particular personthingor group and not shared with others" "catering or available to only a few, select people" "Catering to a wealthyclientele"  "very expensiveand therefore available only to people who have a lot of money"

These definitions came from the dictionary.

Plus the DE are not forcing you to buy those exclusive items. they are only available for the people who are willing to buy it and by buying it you are actually supporting the game. Lets just say that those Misa Syandana and Prime Extractors serves as a "Thank you" or "Complimentary" gift from them.

    I don't like exclusive items.

My beef isn't with the definition of the English word "exclusive." My problem is, when DE introduced exclusive items, they created an ugly, community-fracturing, fun-killing cancer. I fully understand their reasons for using exclusivity, and I utterly reject them.

You continue to see whining about exclusives like Primed Chamber, Braton Vandal, and Natural Talent because they continue to be problems. The negative feedback will stop when DE learns from its mistakes.

  14. The only abilities that benefit more off a maxed blind rage over one that's rank 2 are unstackable buffs/debuffs.

Roar/Sonar/Overheat/SuperJump/Terrify/Contagion/Bastille. 7/60 something powers. Really not worth the trouble when most of those frames have abilities that would rather make use of the weaker but cheaper rank 2 for max efficiency any ways.

Good point about reusable abilities. I value Roar and Sonar a little higher than most people; I think those two abilities justify maxing a Blind Rage all by themselves. And, if you're like the OP with 10-30 million credits to burn, why not?

  15. I have to say i won many credits [thanks to orokin void]+[gradivus dilemma] and nothing interesting to spend it! i would like to see a weapon for rich people [around 10-30 millons of credits] to keep game interesting. what you think about this?

There are plenty of powerful "weapons" for rich people--Serration, Hornet Strike, Heavy Caliber, Magnum Force, Blind Rage, and Narrow Minded, to name a few.

Besides, the Orokin Void no longer awards you buckets of credits. Credit costs are balanced around the new rewards, not the old ones.

  16. It sounds like you have a completionist addiction to the game. I suggest taking a break, stress is rarely healthy.

Thanks; this is solid advice that has worked for me in the past. I normally would take a break from gaming for a few weeks, but time-sensitive missable stuff is my kryptonite. I actually left town from Friday to Monday, and only obsessed about this stupid event the whole time. I'm hoping for some kind of change to mastery or exclusivity to make missing an event less painful.
