next week we should see the first Devstream of 2017 (assuming the schedule is unchanged), so we'll know more about whether DE tweak the nidus stuff, and when console will get the update, as well as a bunch of other stuff going forward.

    Yup.

And as a more general statement, software is hard. It is arguably one of the hardest engineering challenges around. I work in software, and it's hard to explain just how challenging it really is. That experience doesn't mean I'm okay with bugs, but I do understand how these things happen.

When you add an element that alters anything about your warframes appearance then you are going to have people pissed off, and rightfully so, you don't screw with the player bases fashion frame, we actually spend REAL money making our frames look the way we want them, when there is pink S#&$ growing on my canvas I lose most motivation to even play that game, this was a poor design choice on DE's part and would not be surprised if people quite until this issue is taken care of, especially those who have any form of OCD.  In any case everytime a nidus joins my public party I'm gonna leave, not risking this S#&$ getting on me, had I known this was a thing I wouldn't have gotten Nidus to begin with.

I think people with that sort of OCD would already have problems with the fact that the infestation has taken up permanent residence in our ships, with no way to clean it out. This is not game for people that require clean appearances.

Just because you can overlook it doesn't mean everyone else has to. People like different things and some people don't like neck tentacles.

This might be the most unintentionally funny forum post I've ever read. I think "some people don't like neck tentacles" deserves to replace "Ninjas Play Free" as the official Warframe slogan.

Warframe: Some People Don't Like Neck Tentacles

For myself, I'm tickled pink by this entire event. It's utterly amazing. I get that it might be inconvenient and unpleasant, but this is all temporary. We're going to have to deal with space herpes as a community.

I hope we get a cure soon> i would be ok with this if this were during a quest but there is nothing we can do right now so it just bugs me.

Meanwhile, I'm hoping the space herpes will turn me into an infested eximus unit, and I can create a massive scare on the relays.

I'm actually really looking forward to this update. I'm saving to buy some decorations so I can set up my own custom quarantine around the door. Is isn't no serious disease, but the spreading is really interesting to me. Although I do hope it doesn't turn into a constant loop from more and more people opening the door. Like we get a cure soon that will protect us.

I bet as operators we're now regretting how much we procrastinated about cleaning out the infestation from our ship.

"Hmmm..infestation is growing in my ship. No biggie, I'll get around to cleaning it at some point. But first, new noggles!"

This is a video game, and the tumor may very well disappear after 7 days, according to some new data.

It only disappears because it finally becomes systemic within the frame. Any infected frame eventually becomes Limbo with a new Winter Solstice skin.

I'm the kind of guy who really likes to put work into how my Warframes look and after months of neglect I finally start using my Equinox. I play around with it and actually enjoy the warframe, and what happens? Some form of infested cancer is growing on the neck! I mean what the hell? it doesn't serve a purpose it just sits there standing out like a sore thumb because it's a big red blob on my Equinoxes white neck. I really don't want to use this frame until it comes off. I realize this may seem childish but it pissed me off that this thing on my neck doesn't even serve a function it just sits there growing and being nasty all well ruining the aesthetic I put into my frames. I legit don't want to pull out my favorite frames anymore because they might get infected too. Also as far as I can tell there is no way to remove it! I heard it comes off in seven days but that's just stupid and apparently this is not a bug. So I really really want to know, WHAT WERE YOU THINKING DE?

They were hopefully thinking that it would be both interesting and hilarious. And it is. Embrace the infestation!

  8. Current Super Serious Predictions:

    1. The current Space Herpes epidemic ends up being a disease that actually eats weapon mods. Our weapon mods start to disintegrate into salvage. A few lucky mods just morph into Warm Coat.

    2. A fatal flaw is revealed in Prime gear: It needs platinum to keep functioning! This critical vulnerability leaves Ordis perplexed, but thankfully he may have a way to fix it: doing an infested salvage mission 1,000 times.

    3. The after-effects of Space Herpes leave half of all operators with giant, swollen heads. This coincides with support for operators in relays. Suddenly relays are full of balloon-headed tenno.

    4. Anyone who has ever complained about the existence of Conclave on the forums is forced to play a round of Annihilation before starting any PvE mission. All those forced to play are armed only with large, floppy space noodles. After the initial outrage, players start demanding Space Noodle Prime.

I've done infested salvage so much, I think I'm actually dying. I've gotten 13 metal auger mods, and 7 Nidus systems, then a bunch of other crap like 80 endo, but no other Nidus parts. This mission is so draining and it feels like I'm making no progress at all. I get depressed whenever I find out that I got some useless "stretch" mod or 80 endo from a C reward. I could have gone to Heiracon and on rotation A got 400 endo.

In all honesty, farming for Equinox and Ash were more bearable than this. And I refuse to use plat to pay for a nonprime warframe!

Send.... Help.... Will to live and play this game... Fading *dies on keyboard*

Warframe is 100% free to play only if your time has no value. If your time does have value, then you need to ask yourself why you're turning a leisure activity into a chore. Play what's fun. If you want Nidus, buy or trade for him. Do the things that are actually enjoyable.

I guess the problem is that the old content is not fixed, and there is nothing new.

The way I see it, it is not a problem with having to prioritise OLD vs NEW, it is that they simply choose to do the wrong thing. Game modes such as the PvP arenas, Lunaro and, to mention the biggest of them, Archwing, happened. All those things took them huge amount of time, resources and focus. Right behind those were the 'cinematic quests', which they insist on doing as if the players couldn't get much better experiences from games which are cheaper than Warframe (during a Steam sale you can get amazing games with great cinematics for less than $10, but buying any amount of Platinum in Warframe will take you at least those $10, you see).

If instead of 'cinematic quests', PvP modes which are not really satisfactory, Archwing, Lunaro, those raids which never took off because they weren't exactly fun and had no follow-up, new star chart (as if it was even NEEDED in the first place), changes to the Market... Had they spent that developing time spicing up what we currently have in the game, improving the clan system, iterating and improving on the events that were always very successful and brought players to the game instantly, the game would've been in a much better shape.

All they seem to do now is go for novelties which take time and money but don't pay off, and in the meantime they seem to be pushing the necessity for buying platinum, going for huge grind walls and that kind of thing. It feels as if they had forgotten what made their game great and wanted to reinvent the wheel at every turn, but they have been hugely unsuccessful thus far...

We agree on at least one thing: Like yourself, I'm not too happy with the grind walls. There has to be a better way.

But I disagree on much of your other points:

    • I really enjoy Conclave. I think it's a great addition that highlights Warframe's fundamental mechanics, stripped of the craziness of high-ranked mods. Playing Conclave has made me a better PvE player and made me better able to appreciate the game as is.
    • Archwing is cool. I think movement still needs to be tuned, but I think it has a future, especially if (like Steve mentioned) Warfame starts to invest in larger, more open maps. Imagine fighting in one area of a map, leaping into the air to fly to a different area, then coming back down to reengage. I can see great potential if you look beyond the idea of archwing-only maps.
    • I haven't played enough Lunaro to have an opinion on yet. But having a co-op space-ninja sports game seems pretty neat.
    • I love the cinematic quests, and think Warframe's lore is intriguing and cool. You're right that, at the moment, other games do it better. It's clear that this is still a frontier for Warframe. But I think it will continue to improve, and it's clearly appreciated by many players.
    • The new starchart is great. Was it needed? Not critically, but I imagine it made a bigger difference for new players, by allowing them to understand how to progress through the early game.

To my mind, the above additions are not a set of peripheral investments, but instead efforts to grow Warframe in ways that keep it fresh and engaging for its audience, including me.

Why would they ever think that? It doesn't really make sense. Neither the difficulty nor the amount of grind has a direct impact on the amount of money players spend on the game.

This is a fundamental mechanism of many free to play games. The idea is that the process of grinding for some reward is, beyond a certain point, so unrewarding that it makes more sense to purchase it outright. Free to play games frequently try to find a point at which a non-trivial portion of their audience will choose to pay rather than tolerate the grind or wait. Otherwise, they make no money. Some people in the current Nidus discussions are suggesting that players pay rather than grind, because it's so unfun at the moment.

If this still doesn't make sense, imagine a thought experiment. First, the Nidus quest takes five minutes. Why would any one purchase Nidus at that point when they can spend five minutes and get him? Now it takes 30 minutes. Now an hour. Now four hours. Now a week. And so on. You can see how the percentage of people purchasing him would go up. You're right that you can't just increase the grind forever--the game still has to be enjoyable *overall*. But you can settle on a grind level that reduces the overall fun of particular quests to protect the number of conversions (purchases) that you will get.

When it comes to waiting for foundry items to complete, I only ever really noticed that when I started playing. The 1st time I had to wait 3 days for a warframe to finish was a surprise to me. But I quickly avoided any problems there by just always having stuff building and now I have enough weapons and warframes to get enough variety so I don't feel like I have to rush anything.
So what is it that you would actually want to build quicker?

Let me answer your question with a different question: Why do you think the Foundry is time-gated by money? Do you think it's because there's no reason to pay for it? Or do you think it's because DE has been running this game for years, and knows enough players are frustrated. If so, then it's not what I would consider a healthy part of the game. It's great that you feel no friction. But clearly, enough people do to keep the feature present.

I agree that grind should be kept out of quests. I'm asking that subscription money be used to make such quests, so that there's less of question of "If this quest is too easy, we will make less money".

  13. 1 minute ago, gluih said:

In warframe a subscription is basically replaced by prime access.

Or just buying platinum on a monthly basis. There are plenty of ways to pay in to the game on a regular basis that make it easier. But I think asking for the removal of Foundry times and further quest investment (in the manner described in the OP) makes my proposal a little different.

  14. 21 minutes ago, AerinSol said:

It's one of my weaknesses with platinum.

Time gates are meaningful to me as well. I have a limited time to play, and the time gates sometimes mean that I will not be able to pursue my current goal, or play with a desired weapon for days. This is not the end of the world, but it does create frustration. And this experience is not a part of the game in a traditional sense, it's a part of the monetization model.

  15. I now have a couple hundred hours in Warframe, and it is easily one of my favorite games of all time. I congratulate Digital Extremes on producing such a deep and engaging action RPG. With all of that said, its monetization model (F2P) has never sat well with me. To remedy this, I'm asking that they consider a subscription option that would remove some of the friction created by its F2P hooks.

My objection to the current model is one central point that radiates outward into much of Warframe:

    • It is possible to obtain nearly all items in Warframe without pay. But for the game to be cash positive it must motivate enough players to buy in. This creates a perverse incentive to design progression and reward systems that are slower and less rewarding than they might be otherwise. After all, if the mere process of obtaining weapons, Warframes, and so on were sufficiently reinforcing, there would be little need to buy anything.

This can be seen most easily in the Foundry, which time-gates (sometimes with tens of hours) your access to newly crafted items. Of course, you can remove a time gate immediately by paying real money. The only reason these time gates exist is to frustrate you into spending money. It serves no other in-game purpose. If it did, it would not be possible to instantly bypass it with cash. Another more recent example is arguably seen in the Nidus quest, which is currently the subject of many complaints regarding the sheer amount of grinding required. Grinding that arguably would be lessened if DE had "player enjoyment" as its number 1 priority, and did not have to worry about demotivating sales of Nidus.

    Here is my solution:

    • Offer optional subscriptions. Let me pay a monthly fee that just removes Foundry time gates entirely, provides a platinum stipend, a standard discount, and other goodies. Use subscriptions funds to create more quests where you don't have to worry about crowding out sales of associated items. I don't care if my subscription subsidizes other players getting things easier, for free. That's fine. Just let me contribute money in a way that makes Warframe a healthier ecosystem for game design.

Well, this Alert has, for better or for worse, finally got me to try out Conclave proper.

Personal experience has been... alright. There have been some good matches, some bad matches, and there are enough glimmers there to make me think I just need to find a frame and weapon combo that I can do well with and I'll really start to enjoy it.

At the very least, I've dipped my toe into the pool, and one step closer to getting the Riv armor sets that I've wanted for a while.

Same here. This event inspired me to give Conclave a second try, and I'm really enjoying it. I'm getting my butt kicked, but it's a cool mode.

  17. 1 hour ago, Artorius-Alter said:

Oh come on, do you -need- me to specify to get you to not use that lame old line..?

The reason there's pushback on the "forced" term is that it seems like it's being used to grant the complaint a modicum of moral weight, because being forced to do something is generally a sign of undue coercion.

But in this case it just means, "If you want reward x, you must do y." For example, if I want a vacation to Hawaii, I am forced to buy a plane ticket. Then I'm forced to find lodging of some sort, and then forced to acquire food! And if I want to see the sights, I'm forced to look them up and go find them!

If you were to used "forced" in the same way in other contexts, it would become apparent why it's not entirely appropriate here.

Edit - On topic, this update prompted me to try Conclave again, and I had fun.

Actually you are very wrong about the Grineer because when I say they was born that way, that's a fact. They are literally born for two things: War and Conquest through any means and the love for their queens. Clem and the Steel Meridians was born with defects which meant that their leaving the Grineer was due to the fact that they have a conscience, something every other Grineer does not have.

And the Tenno take no prisoners? Then what is the Capture objective BUT to take prisoners? And I'm not saying the Tenno aren't dark, but you are seriously trying to paint a Gray brush on them when the other team is basically Jet Black.

Yes, regarding the Grinner, I'm saying that those who have had "errors" may still be inside the organization. And we haven't even addressed the Corpus.

And yes, capture missions exist. I should have been more specific when talking about this. I mean that, on explicit combat missions, there is no surrendering to the Tenno. There is no circumstance under which they take prisoners of normal enemy combatants. So it would be more correct to say that the Tenno take no prisoners in combat, though do kidnap VIPs on occasion.

  19. 11 minutes ago, Xhominid said:

The only thing I disagree with is that the Tenno are a murder cult and such...we really aren't.

The Corpus and Grineer really DO need to be stopped or halted at the very least or everyone else will suffer from their expansions. So technically we are heroes for everyone else but Grineer and Corpus, let's not pretend that a vast majority of them aren't psychopathic warriors straight from birth/corporate heads that don't give a damn about anyone else aren't worth crying over if we ran them through/shot them to pieces.

But yeah, the lines really do need to be revised a bit, especially that Corpus one(come on, I understand that even now Operators cannot fight for themselves, but that's a bit on the nose there)

"Murder cult" is a bit strong, but only just. Tenno kill by the thousands, indiscriminately. They don't take prisoners, don't negotiate, and show no mercy. They have zero compunction about burning, beheading, electrocuting, and poisoning their enemies. Clem is disturbing evidence that not all Grineer are the same. But it doesn't matter. Tenno just keep showing up at Grineer installations and killing everyone. For all the Tenno know, they have unintentionally killed hundreds that might have resisted the Grineer internally. But it doesn't matter, because Lotus said to kill them all.

And I fully agree that the people/things the Tenno are fighting are often truly evil, there's no question. I also agree that the actions of the Tenno may indirectly benefit civilians. But the Tenno are still a dark and often amoral coalition.

It would be nice if we had "personalities" for our operators, using the same voice, but with different dialogue (should be monologue technically?) and with different tones, similar to the Archetypes above.

And yeah, even though these are physically teenagers, having lived through multiple lifetimes of near non-stop violence should have left them with minds of a desensitized adults. They definitely aren't children, and can't be as naive as their dialogue suggests.

Just a few suggestions of my own.

    1. Cynical, Jaded- "Excellent, yet another set of corpses." "It's always been this way, just an endless cycle of bloodshed."

    2. Indifferent, Apathetic- "It isn't personal, it's just a job." "It would be over faster if they just surrendered..."

    3. Righteous Anger- "Can't they see what they do is wrong? They deserve punishment." "They had it coming. Let's give them some more."

    4. Sad, Empathetic- "These are just brainwashed proxies. We need to go after the ones responsible." "I hope it'll be over quickly."

    Those are also excellent, thanks.

Also DE, if you're reading, I want to emphasize that I will pay for this kind of personality customization.
