Gabby's ears went completely flat at this point. "Alright, I get it, I messed up." She shook herself free of Tara's hand and stepped clear of the taller woman. "And I'm eleven. I'm not a baby who needs their hand held."

She stomped off, grumbling under her breath.

  2. Gabby jumped slightly when the gate slammed shut behind them. Totally not in an ominous fashion. Not creepy at all. Nope.

Her ears flattened for a moment, before perking back up, twitching and swivelling to take in the sounds echoing around. Her hands twitched slightly, claws almost sliding into the open, before she pushed them back. Better to keep them in for the moment. If something tried to come for them... well, then they could come out.

Besides, with her habit of waving her arms around, she might slash someone by accident. Best not to.

"So.... what are we gonna do now?" She asked, bouncing slightly on the balls of her feet. Then she got an idea. "Ooh, I know, I'll go scout ahead!"

Quick as a flash, she darted forward up one of the streets, eyes and ears peeled for trouble.

Dino looked down at the child. Stubborn, of course, all kids went through such a phase. She did too... all the fights she got into, for herself and the sake of others... how often the intervention of adults and third parties only made the anger worse... Dino smirked. This kid's more than just cute.

"... alright. But you're not taking a step without us, got it? You'll need someone to show you the ropes." she declared, lightly patting the child on the back. Though, lightly might not be the best way to describe a pat with her arms "Buckled up, we'll turn you into a tiger yet."

Gabby bounced slightly in place when Dino said she could help, ears perking up once more. "Thank you!" she said with a wide smile, "thank you thank you thank you thank you." She wrapped her arms around Dino's waist and gave her a tight hug, before releasing and looking in at the map.

Part of her mind was dealing with the seriousness of the situation, giving it the proper respect that it was worth. A small section, however, was busy giving the 'superhero' version, flashy and colourful, with faintly ridiculous things occurring.

Give a kid a break, alright?

So that is why Gabby was there. Dino thought she was just following the adults, not actually planning to join them on the field. She was hoping the traumatic experience of yesterday would dissuade her of facing it again. The child is either brave or blind, common things to see on a kid...

"This isn't really the same as beating up your bully, you know? These things... they're tough." spoke Dino "If you really wanna face them, you need to be tough too. I can tell you're smart, but you need to be strong, too." she gestured with her metal arms, which could easily crush a rock without sustaining any damage "I can help you get stronger, but until then, why don't you just sit back and watch for now?"

    Just now, Cyriann said:

I saigh squatting to Gabby's height. "You know, it'll be better if I play the bait. I'm bigger, so I attract more attention, and since you are smaller, you can sneak up on them while I can't." I give her a wink, essentially telling her to have my back.

"As for the rest..." I get back up looking to the others. "If I may ?" I try and get everyone's attention. "Maybe we should discuss of what we can do before deciding what to do ? I mean I proposed myself for a reason that I now realize I didn't showed you guys."

Gabby's eyes narrowed. Literally, thanks to her new cat-like eyes. "I know they aren't just a school bully. I also nearly clawed one of their eyes out yesterday. Didn't see you do any real damage to them. Don't think anyone else apart from me really did." She looked down at her hands, claws extending from them. "I dunno why I got these, but if I can help, I'm gonna help, and you can't stop me."

Gabby's ears had pressed flat to her head in her defiance, and they remained low even as she looked back up at the group. "Maybe I'm just a child, but I'm also able to help. So I will."

Much like dinner, breakfast had been a loud, energetic affair. The sound of cutlery scraping lightly against plates interspersed bouts of quiet conversation that layered to create a cacophony of noise. Still, there was some measure of comfort to be found in how people always managed to find the time to smile, even when the situation was as rough as it had been.

As with all things, however, it had come to an end, and the newcomers had found themselves standing outside of the Homefront’s gate, awaiting further instruction. Looking around, they would see that aside from their own group of misfits, only a single other candidate was present, the woman who Gabby had blurted an introduction to earlier in the day. She stood a few steps away from the group, showing little interest in seeking further interaction.

Before any could make inroads to change that, they would be interrupted by Alexei, half-jogging his way out of the building, seeming as if every part of him had been dragged one direction or another, pulling at his metaphorical seams. Nevertheless, it took him only a second to shift tones, adopting his usual stance of authority before looking over all those present.

”I have to say, I’m… disappointed in the turnout.”

Lightly pursing his lips, the horned man appraised each member, holding his gaze on Gabby for longer than any of the others.

”Well… It seems that you all will have to do. I don’t mean to come off as unappreciative, but our needs have far outweighed what we can supply for some time, and the additional hands would have been great, but… that just means more opportunities for you, eh?”

The man looked around with a half-smile, hoping his attempt at humor would catch on, but eventually dropped it, moving on to more serious matters.

”Now, on to business. Before we can send you into the field, we need to test your abilities, see what you’re capable of, and what we can trust you to accomplish. To that end, we’ve set up something of a… training course. A cordoned off block of the city, culled to maintain a suitable difficulty of Infected. Your task is to enter the area, and to retrieve a small cache of supplies being held by the area’s pack leader, for lack of a better term.”

Reaching over to the map, Alexei produces a marker from his pocket, drawing a thick black square around a grouping of houses, tight alleys and paths leading between them like veins, all centred around the heart, a clocktower in the centre of it all.

”You will have an hour to plan, and will be provided with minor resources that you request. Inform me when your preparations are complete.”

With that, he steps back, allowing the candidates some time to get to know each other, and to consider their plan of approach.

Gabby.... probably shouldn't have been there honestly. She was only a child after all. Even as she tucked into breakfast with everyone chatting around and the clattering of cutlery. The food on her plate lasted all of two minutes before being devoured. Her cat ears had been constantly twitch as they took in sounds around them. It was weird honestly, essentially hearing from two different points. It was more noticeable if she concentrated on it, but her new hearing was definitely more sensitive than her human ears.

    Guess it made sense honestly.

She followed after the group, quietly, slinking behind them when they went to the Operator briefing. Well, she tried to be sneaky anyway. She was wearing boots after all.

At first she kept quiet as a plan began to be discussed. Then the question of being bait came up.

"I could do." The words were blurted out. Gabby almost surprised herself with the words, but she rallied and quickly forged on. "I'm small, and fast, and I have claws so I can fight them off if needed. I think my new ears gave me better hearing too, so I'll be able to hear them coming." Her face was set in a defiant but eager expression. Convincing her to not come would be.... tricky.

Dino, now all dressed and ready, waited for Gabby to be done putting on her footwear and also for Agnes to get her stuff together. Visibly, she too has been s h o o k by the new fluffy visual. Time to look like the more responsible adult again.

"Alright you two, I've got a belly that needs filling and I bet you girls have too. Food sounds good, yeah?"

She ushered them out, her hunger prompting her to hurry it up. She could just go to the cafeteria by herself, but no way she's letting the little one alone now. Those cat ears need to be protected with an iron fist... though, it could probably do with someone less prone to gushing over their slight life-like movements. With her mind on that and food, it is no surprise she did not notice anyone who could've been new to her on their way to the cafeteria.

"Okay. See you at breakfast Agnes!" Gabby almost darted out the door, looking around the moment she was outside, even as her ears swivelled and turn automatically. Her eyes would widen to a more normal pupil size, though they would still appear somewhat catlike. Her hunger was definitely becoming more noticeable now that she was fully awake.

In fact... she was feeling very hungry. Maybe it was because of what had given her cat ears, drawing on her bodies resources?

She'd head towards where she thought she remembered where the dining room was, though Dino might need to guide her a bit.

Or she was... until she stopped as she noticed someone. Someone with distinctive silver-black markings on her hands.

It took less willpower than she expected to climb of her bed. However, in doing so, Halina’s vision was filled with stars as she re-examined the repurposed clothing store. Finally registering the ringing of the distant bell gave her a reason to shift her thoughts from incessantly analyzing the nightmares to focusing on the present and what had to come next.

She slipped on her leather boots, attached her knife to her belt, threw a jacket over her top and started toward the shutter entrance. Pushing her wavy brunette hair to one side in attempts to clean it up, she caught a glimpse of her hands immediately reminding her of the odd metal streaks across both her palms, splintering from where she had previously been cut. Moments passed while she stared at them with some intensity. She forced herself to shake the creeping visions and stepped into the wide hallway, intentionally avoiding eye contact with any potential onlookers.

Distant conversation carried from across the hallway, blurring its contents along the way. Nonetheless, it was clear to her that there were more inhabitants here than she recalled. There wasn't exactly anything stopping her from approaching the all-too-conspicuous newcomers, except of course unnecessarily forcing herself to participate in the obviously mindless chatter. Turning to head toward the improvised cafeteria, Hali quickly decided it’d be in her best interest to adopt a faster pace as she went ahead.

Alright, off to get breakfast and then sign up to be an operator. I just hope I'll finally be able to help change the way things are out there...

"She's like us," she whispered to herself, then louder, "she's like us!" She darted across to the strange woman, before almost skidding to stop before the brunette, staring up at her, ears perked upright.

"Hiya! I'm Gabby! I'm like you!" She added to her introduction by waving her paw like hands around.

Vague memories of dreams harry me as I sleep. Shapes. Sounds. Smells. Old and new faces; Something about Neil Gaiman disapproving of bacon croissants. Then, a voice cuts through, muddled and barely recognizable. Something about breakfast. I turn in my bed, roughly facing the voice.

    "stooearlytaexis'..."

And then I manage to actually wake up, and through massive effort open my eyes.

    And blink.

Stand up . Rub my eyes. And blink again. Still there? Still there.

Okay, probably not dream. What. #*!%. Oh god stay calm, do not melt down, keep your dignity Agnes.

"...You have cat ears. Why do you have cat ears. I mean, they're very much adorable, and if anyone tells you otherwise I will do unpleasant things to them, but why do you have cat ears."

“I dunno, I just woke up with them,” Gabby said with a shrug. They twitched on her head, perking forward slightly. “Anyway, its breakfast time... I think. It feels like breakfast time.”

It was then that the floor properly registered to Gabby. Specifically, that it was cold and she had no shoes on. She scurried over to where her bed was and began to pull on her boots, muttering about cold toes all the while.

Dino looked back just in time to see the ears perk up and flatten again. They're so much like a real cat's! She had to fake cough to hide her face again, because the adorableness made her blush.

"Y-yeah, poor thing... let's get you something to eat." she pushed her blanket off and stood up, already dressed as she slept with her clothes on due to the cold. It's an... interesting morning to say the least. But the other girls in the room still aren't awake yet. Maybe they should wait for them...

Gabby turned to the other two girls, only to see Tara already leaving. So instead, she turned to the still sleeping Agnes.

She wanted to go all together... well, as all together as they could with Tara gone. So she walked over to where Agnes was sleeping and peered down at her. Then she gave her a poke the shoulder.

“Wakey wakey Agnes,” she said softly, “its breakfast time.”

The eyes. The eyes! Dino could not handle it anymore, breaking her gaze before she'd get a nosebleed. She was always a cat person, and she liked children. Now Gabby is both, and although it's melting the grown woman's heart, the little girl is rather distressed about the whole thing. Dino has to get a grip and help the little one get accustomed to her new self. And that means telling her about the eyes after she's made peace with the ears... those furry, fluffy ears...

Resist the fluff, resist the fluff!

    "U-um, probably. You hungry?"

Gabby would have answered with her voice, but her stomach decided that it would be a better voice for her current state.

    It growled. Loudly.

Gabby's ears perked up in surprise, then dropped sheepishly as her ducked her head in embarrassment. "Um... yeah. I am." She looked back up. "You know how to get back to the dining room? I don't remember getting into bed last night." She shifted from bare foot to bare foot, patting down her skirt and trying to smooth it out a bit.

If Dino's head turned any faster, she'd risk snapping her neck. Her eyes wide as marbles, mouth agape, she paid witness to the child and her new development. Something every bioengineer across the globe would pay a fortune to be able to replicate. A sight that would soften the hardest of stone walls.

That is, the sight of a cat eared girl.

    "Y... you've got cat ears..."

    She mutters.

"Cat ears... she's got cat ears... you've got cat ears."

For a moment, Dino's gaze looks almost scary, though it's hard to tell with all the disbelief in her eyes. A metallic hand covers her mouth and nose. This is a test of willpower...

Gabby looked over at Dino, revealing that her grey-blue eyes were not round like a normal persons, but instead the pupils were now slitted, exactly like a cats. "Did.... did I grow them overnight?" Gabby asked, a tone of something that combined confusion and a little bit of panic. Her hands were still up by her ears, and she lowered them as she stared at the metal armed woman. Her ears twitched, swivelling around as they automatically tracked sounds and noises.

Then her nose (still very much human) twitched, and she glanced towards the entrance of their dorm. "Is that food?" She asked, before looking back at Dino.

With the last of the encounters for the night wrapped up, the moon rides high, dancing through the sea of stars, ever so ignorant of those that lay beneath it. One by one, as the day’s tensions begin to seep from their bodies, the group of infected feel the irresistible embrace of sleep beckoning them closer. A fly trap, its sweet smell lulling all into a false sense of security, before snapping its jaws shut. That night, they would sleep like the dead, not a single sound, no obligation drawing them out of the maelstrom of dreams that bombarded their minds.

As the cover of night gives way to the light of early morning, so would the mysterious slumber that had befallen them all. One by one, they would snap to full, jarring awareness in the order in which they had slept. However, what their freshly awakened minds would be faced with was not what they had fallen asleep with. It seemed that while they had been out, their scars had begun branching out, for lack of a better description. Like some creature, the metal would have lashed out, expanding in bursts out from its origin, tugging at all it surrounded as a hungry animal might.

Before they could fully come to grips with the implications of their forced slumber, however, the morning bell would ring out through the compound, signalling the beginning of the morning assembly and the serving of breakfast.

Wakefulness came slowly to Gabby. Very slowly. Until it basically slapped her in the face. She sat bolt upright with a gasp, blinking rapidly in the light for just a moment as her eyes adjusted. The ringing of the bell, when she properly processed it, had her ears going flat against her head.

    Wait what.

Gabby's hands went up to the top of her head, flinching in surprise at the unexpected growths there. Small triangles, furry and twitching as she touched them. They were perked right up now, as she tentatively explored them over focusing on the bell that rang, even as a part of her acknowledged that she was still in the clothes she'd gotten last night, minus her boots.

Really, there was only one proper response to such a development.

    "I have cat ears?!"

As the remaining number of the group sank into their beds, they could feel the tension drain from every fiber of their being. Muscles loosened, a general sense of relaxation spreading through them. Soon enough, sleep would come, dragging them deep into the recesses of their mind, dredging up thoughts and memories that were not wholly their own. That night, dreams would take them just as soon as their eyes had closed. Dreams of spidery shapes, carressing them with thin appendages. Dreams of a man, vague in form, but undeniably there, whispering sweet lullabies. Dreams of conversing men and women, the words always just out of their mind's comprehension. Interspersed between these vague visions, they would find vestiges of their own past, some horrible, some joyous, and yet... none seemed able to wake them.

Dreams are weird things at the best of times. Flights of fancy beyond the control of the conscious mind, weaving into the aether of ones soul.

    Gabby's were no exception.

Around her was a forest, tall, foreboding, welcoming, warm. Things skittered around her, and she did not know whether to be scared or comforted by them. She walked forward, along a path that appeared before her step by step, stone forming out of nothingness for her bare feet to alight on, silent as a distant fall of rain. Somewhere distant, a quiet melody began to twist between the trunks, the baritone tune weaving into the air. Her footsteps quickened. She thought she recognised the tune, the singer. It crawled at the back of her mind.

The terrain shifted, roots becoming great paths for her to run across, steps becoming short hops, then leaps as she bounded between the root- no, branches of the trees. They were too high up now, the ground had fallen away to fog below.

Faster, faster, faster. Ever chasing the melody, that deep baritone siren, calling to her. The things skittered around her still, leaping around her, swinging between the trees. Whispers of conversation reached her, words indistinct, but there none the less.

She kept running, leaping, bounding, flipping along these living pathways, ever chasing that elusive song.

"You're welcome kid." Dino replied naturally "Stuff gets done faster and better if people work together. Doubt we would've gotten away from those dog things otherwise."

She was not impressed with the room, makeshift beds and sheets, but there's only so much you can do with establishments never meant for this kinda stuff. Before Cyriann would get to lay her down, she picked a bed and took some more blankets from other beds, giving her an extra layer of warmth, fluff and softness. Now she nodded to him, giving him to greenlight to place her down and tuck her in.

"Don't worry. I'll pummel anyone who gets close to her. If you find the others, let em know this room's free for a few more people. Except the rich guy, screw him."

Gabby would mumble a little as she was laid in the bed, but otherwise she didn't really stir. She hadn't stirred in Cyriann's arms either, almost immobile apart from the slow rise and fall of her chest. Curled up and quite asleep. When she was put in the bed, she somewhat instinctively reached out and pulled the blankets up around her, rolling onto her side.

She was, quite frankly, the picture of adorableness.

Gabby yawned again, rubbing at her eyes. "You're both adults compared to me," she mumbled, leaning slightly into Cyriann's hold. She was definitely becoming more sleepy. Even as she walked, her feet were beginning to drag. By the time they reached the stairs, she'd be almost asleep on her feet. Poor girl was very tired.

    Then her legs gave out.

Her grip, already loosened, would give completely unless Cyriann held on. If not, she'd tumble forward and flop onto the ground, completely passed out.

  15. 50 minutes ago, Cyriann said:

I sigh seeing the little girl playing it tough.

"Yeah you're not sleepy, but you know, sleeping would do us all some good anyways, it was a hectic day after all." I can't resist and give her a rapid headpat.
"Let's get to bed, working out what to do can wait for tomorow." I offer her a hand if she wants to follow me as I get up from the table.

Gabby flailed her arms at Cyriann's headpat, an ineffectual attempt to stop him from doing so.

"I'm not sleepy!" She declared, a little more vehemently, before yawning once more. "Maybe just a little tired," she admitted, getting up from the table. She took Cyriann's hand after a moment of staring at it, then looked up at him. "Do you know where we are sleeping?" She said, a little blearily, sleep clearly beginning to close in on her.

  16. With people seemingly going their own ways, and now with a rather full stomach, the trails and tribulations of the day began to catch up with the youngest member of the group. This was signalled in the most obvious manner possible, namely, a huge yawn and stretch, sleeves falling down her arms to show her furry limbs.

"I'm not tired," she said, almost out of habit. Not that anyone would actually believe her, not with what had just happened. Gabby's drooping eyelids didn't exactly reinforce her argument.

It had been a long day in any case, and despite the extra energy gained from being infected, she was still a child. A bed had her name on it. Someone just had to get her to it.

No. I can feel nausea and disgust rising at the very idea. Not that .

"I'm good. You can have it, Gabby. I'm just going to walk a bit and xlear my mind, and then to the fashion dictator it is I guess."

Gabby gave Agnes a wide smile and yanked the plate closer to her, almost knocking some of the food off the plate. She swapped Agnes' cutlery for her own before tucking in, not quite shovelling the food into her mouth, but almost.

Her mother would have had words with her if she saw her manners right now.

It took all of half a minute for Gabby to devour the plate's contents. Once it was all but licked clean, she put her knife and fork together, as if she hadn't just resembled an animal at a feeding frenzy, and sat back slightly, looking much more content. Then a small burp escaped her, and she clapped a hand over her mouth, looking thoroughly embarrassed.

    "Sowwee," she mumbled.

"You know you shouldn't stick too close to me. I still have my old clothes so I must stink something fierce..."

Gabby shrugged, pulling away slightly. “You needed a hug. Besides, it’ll probably annoy the fashion dictator.” Ok, Agnes did still smell, but hugs should not be put off by that kinda of thing...

Thought Agnes did really smell. Time for a swift retreat. She shuffled off of Agnes and back down onto the bench, before her attention was drawn the plate of unfinished food the doctor had pushed away. Her eyes locked onto it like a missile, before she looked away, not trying to appear too greedy.

Gabby wasn't entirely convinced by Dino dodging what she'd said. Eleven she may be, but she wasn't stupid. She could tell when someone was only responding to part of what she'd said. But she let it slide. She had someone else to focus on.

Namely, Agnes, whose dark little speech was not something Gabby could let slide without some sort of comment.

In this case, the 'comment' was Gabby just about lunging into Agnes's lap and wrapping her arms around her, preventing the doctor from going anywhere. Whatever memories Agnes was suddenly reminded of, gut feeling told the cat-girl that it would be unwise to let the doctor be alone. So she grabbed onto her, arms wrapping around her, hopefully stopping her from leaving.

She didn't even say anything, just hugged her, head buried in Agnes' shoulder, a warm and comforting and entirely non-judgemental presence. The child-like innocence and naivety was in full force in that moment, and if Agnes wanted to walk off, she'd do so with Gabby clinging to her.

After all, some people just needed a good hug. Agnes had given her a hug earlier, as she'd cried out of relief and terror in the square earlier. It was time to return the favour.

"Whatever, rich boy." Dino muttered in response, he probably didn't hear. None of his words really sounded like anything but bullS#&$. Those guys are full of empty words, fat with them in fact. He's playing innocent now that he's brought down to everyone's level. It's a miracle that he got this far...

Dino was pulled out of her hateful gaze into nothingness by the little girl's question. It didn't need to take a perceptive person to notice he doesn't have that man in best regards. And since she's a child, she clearly has no idea who he is, or how the big guys up top in their shiny suits rob people of more than any lowlife punk with a gun ever could. Still, she knows kids have that childish optimism, thinking that you can get along with everyone if you try... well, the good kids at least. There's bad kids too... but this Gabby is a good kid, she can tell. She'll have to take care explaining this...

"... Karl Zakharov. He's the big boss of a company called Juno. He's... peh, I'm not gonna sugarcoat this. He's a bad guy, corrupt to the core. He plays nice with sweet speeches on camera, but he's a lying backstabber. Underpaying his workers, overpricing his products, pulling dirty tricks to tear down historical buildings and build hospitals - which are practically paper houses on sand with a pretty coat of paint - and he's also a jerk. How do I know? Ask his ex wives and bastard children, he's probably forgotten about them anyway."

The more Dino spoke, the more her grip on the table tightened. It wasn't until she was done that she noticed the indentations her fingers left. She felt rightly awkward, not only for damaging other's property but loosing her cool talking about that guy to a kid. She sighed, calming down somewhat. Her gaze shifted into the distance again.

"How can people like him make this far, but other people, honest, better people..." she clenched her teeth, then relaxed them again "Like hell I'm gonna accept that."

Gabby gave Dino a long and considering look, mulling over what she’d just heard. Hatred wasn’t something she’d dealt with much, only in books and on tele, and the occasional film. But she had seen it once with her own eyes, two people having a shouting match in the middle of the street in broad daylight. She hadn’t understood it until later, when her parents had explained it to her, but she could see similar signs from Dino, voice hard and angry, body posture tight, the not nice language.

    Yeah. Dino hated Karl.

Gabby tilted her head the other way. “Well... people who do bad things should be punished right? What if this is his punishment?” Her gaze shifted to look after Karl, and Martijn who had followed on. “If he truly has done all these bad things, he now doesn’t have the easy way out.” She looked down at her hands, extending her claws so they were visible. Her voice had dropped, taking on a world weary tone that had no place belonging to an eleven year old girl. “We’re stronger now. We can do things other’s can’t. We will survive where a normal human would die. Sometimes living with your mistakes is worse than not.”

She retracted her claws and looked back up at Dino. “Or maybe this is his second chance. Maybe he is still alive because he now has the chance to redeem himself.” She stared back after Karl. “I think that’s what he wants. His wrongs will never go away, but maybe he can balance the scales.”

For another moment, she was silent, morose. Then she smiled again, weight suddenly lifting from her shoulders, and looked back up at Dino. “Do you know if we can get more food? I’m still hungry.” The last few words were somewhat sheepish, but held none of the world weary tone she’d been speaking in mere moments ago.

"Gab it is then." Dino smiled after swallowing her last bite. The food was delicious, and she dug in like a starved dog at a fast food restaurant. It's not that she didn't have table manners, but these arms were difficult to work precisely with, resulting in some shaky movements and dented silverware. Still, she listened to the people around her, especially to the (beyond adorable) one with similarly disfigured limbs.

"You can definitely call me a friend. I look out for my own, y'know?"

"We? You can go look for coins under other people's tables for all I care." Dino voiced. Maybe he was trying to avoid her, but he still was in her presence, and she'll make sure he's aware of his position at all times. She will not associate herself with this corporate degenerate. That's enough about him though, the subject at hand does seem important, and that other guy - Martjin was his name? - already expressed himself on it. Might as well join.

"I'm a fully qualified architect, and this place is in bad shape. I'm gonna see if they have any need for reconstruction experts."

Unfortunately, Dino may be on thin ice with Karl as he stared at the woman with the floating arms and clenched the fork in his gloved hand. Inwardly, he knew all the hate was justified but he was suffering enough with the reality check. He didn't need Dino mocking him for his past actions. he just faced but he remained outwardly calm and didn't raise his voice.

"Fine. Whilst the Architect works to make this place function better, I'll be out there. Putting my neck out there instead of being cooped up like a hermit." he stated though gritted teeth as he slowly started to stand up and prepare to make his way to find the woman who could make him an Operator but he stopped, turned around and stared at Dino, gripping the table across from her, locking eyes with her. "You may hate me for all I've done and I can't apologise enough for my actions but I will not stay here like an abused animal and keep looking back." he hissed at the Architect before he started to make his way to the boss of this Homefront, to see about doing some work that would make him useful to this outpost.

Anything to keep the nightmares back...

Gabby looked at ....Karl's? Karl's retreating back in some confusion, before looking back at Dino. Though young, she was not blind to the animosity between the two, and could tell it was mostly Dino angry at Karl, with the latter being more resigned than anything else. She didn't understand why though. The two had only met with everyone else in the square, as far as she knew anyway, but still there was the conflict between the two.

"Why don't you like him?" She asked Dino after a moment, head tilted to one side.

After eating, I feel myself slumping down in the chair, a long sigh coming out of me, in security, as relative as it is, we are in security. A realization I hadn't allowed myself to accept, after all, be it me, or any of the others in the little group of frantically fleeing survivors, we were all bearers of infection, my cristaline arm (as always hidden under bandages), the little kid's feline attributes, Dino's detachable arms.
Had I been in someone else's boots, I'd be affraid of our group, but considering Yeva, and that horned, maybe we are all, if not majoritally sporting traces of infection in this whole place.

Then I look to that kid, realizing she still ahsn't spoken her name, would be time we actually know how to call her. "Say kid, could you give me your name ?" We had introduced ourselves in that chase, having names to put on faces is easier for shoutouts after all, but she had kept silent, and we all called her kid.

Having gotten an understanding of how Homefront worked from Arlo while she was in the armoury, Tara felt uncomfortable while she ate the meal that she was given. She understood that they were paying it forward but the fact that she didn't work for the meal didn't quite sit right with her. Still, plenty of opportunity to work for them on her own time once she's been initiated. She could accept that the meal was an investment on their behalf in exchange for her help later.

Looking over at the rest of those that she arrived with, her eyes fell towards the youngest, littlest of them. It was definitely something that was bothering her, not knowing the kid's name. Something that she's going to remedy right now.

"Can't really call you little one or kid forever. What's your name? You can tell us, you're among... well I guess you could consider us friends? Since we're all in this together." she said, giving the smallest Tenno her best reassuring smile.

Gabby looked up from her food and blinked slowly, first at Cyriann, then at Tara, her head swivelling between the two. "I didn't? Oh." She tilted her head slightly to one side. She looked back at Cyriann, then gave him a downright mischievous smile. "I didn't know you were a fae." She waggled her fork at him. "I know not to give my name to a fae, but you may call me Gabby."

She looked inordinately proud of herself. No fairy was going to steal her free will.

    The virus might....

That though floated through her mind, and made her face fall for a moment, before she put her bright smile back on.

Despite being deeply drawn to the smell of food wafting through the room, Gabby didn’t miss the hesitation in the servers when they saw her hands. She drew them back into her sleeves a somewhat fearful expression crossing her face.

But them something very important caught her attention.

    The food

It proceeded to occupy her attention for next few minutes as she devoured her plate load in a swift and ruthlessly efficient manner. Only her surprisingly good manners stopped it looking like stuffing her face.

    Just.

I tap on the table thoughtfully, giving the lady a look.

"I...See. If there's no one else, I guess I'll to ask her later. "

    I can't help but mutter...

"I swear if she so much as gets a dress close to me..."

A little bit of extra thinking has me ponder. She's not too happy, that kid.

"You know, I was wondering. You're catlike. You've got claws, so I'm guessing you're stuck in close range, right? Punching, kicking, clawing, all that jazz. So...You need freedom of movement to stay safe. Aren't they so very restricting, those clothes?"

I smile and butter wouldn't melt in my mouth. A wink. Come on kid, that's the cue. Take it.

Gabby picked her head up off the table and gave Agnes a slightly confused look. "But I can move more easily in this," she said with a slight pout, "I just prefer jeans to skirts. They're warmer and don't flap. My coat is flappy enough." She proceeded to demonstrate by waving her arms around for a moment, the sleeves flailing and flapping.

She sighed after a moment, her previously perky attitude vanishing suddenly. "Hungry," she mumbled.

Having managed to find a place where to leave things to be washed (and dumped my sheets there, before washing my hands three times) I kept looking for somewhere to get things but...No dice so far. Meaning I was stuck with...Those clothes for now. And that was people announcing dinner. Maybe I could just pass on that and...

A horrifying noise, some sort of surprisingly loud groan, quickly told me that my stomach did not agree with that idea. When *was* the last time I ate, actually? ...Five, ten, twelve...Fifteen hours? Alright. New plan. Eat, then get new clothes and wash again.

Finding my way into the mess hall, I quickly end up grabbed by someone tiny...That's the kid in our group. Brand new clothes, a part of my brain notes with a bit of envy. Others from our little group are joigning us. And it seems I'm the only one still reeking. Smiling at the tyke, I manage to speak up through my embarassment.

"Hey there. So...Where did you get those clothes? I'm still wearing Eau des Egouts number 5 right now so anything fresh would be a progress here..."

“That lady over there,” Gabby said, pointing out Esme with her free hand, then glaring at her, “she’s an evil fashion critic though. I wanted jeans, but she put me in this!” She waved at her skirt and tights with a free hand, completely ignoring anything resembling an inside voice. “And this, this! Was the compromise! She wanted to put me in a dress!” She flumped onto the table and began mumbling about being quite able to choose her own clothes and dress herself, thank you very much.
