Does Harrow specter buff and heal often?  I just can't get away from Nidus his power strength buff and crowd control is just off the charts.

Harrow? He's pretty consistent if you want something a bit supportive that isn't a Trinity Specter.

He casts Penance pretty often usually straight after Condemn and his healing is pretty nice though I'm not sure if the Penance's heal affects Shadows, but I'm pretty sure it effects Companions.

Plus his energy restore on kill is pretty great since he's always going after headshots.

Personally I think he's great! Couple him with a Tenora or a Zarr and he's sorted!

  2. For me my main is Nekros. I've always loved Summoner/Necromancer playstyles and Nekros fits it pretty dang well! I pair him with a Plague Zaw (Status mostly) but mostly I've been using the new Kitguns and it's been working wonders for my build.

You know: writing this and thinking of how I play Nekros makes me think of the Diablo 2 Necromancer and how close I play to him, ha.

    Shadows = Skeletons.

Companion (Raksa or MOA) = Golem.

    Harrow Specter = Hireling.

To me it's kinda funny. But yeah Nekros is for sure my go to frame!

  3. I've had a good play with Revenant since his changes and honestly he's in a much better place now, not perfect by a long shot, but a big step in the right direction.

This is a expansion of what I wrote quite a few pages back before he got his changes. (And with more sleep under my belt too)

Before I jump into my thoughts on this again, let me say that I really do love the overall concept, style and feel this Warframe has! I've been using him more often now and it's been pretty fun at times! But he does have quite a few glaring problems that really hurt him in the long run and it all really boils down to his one ability: Enthrall.

Don't get me wrong, Mesmer Skin, Reave and Danse Macabre have their issues too but have been covered in great detail in this thread, so repeating the same issues and problems again here might just seem counter productive... besides my issues mostly lie with his Enthrall skill and the Synergy between the other skills.

Enthrall as a skill is a cool idea, I love how it feels when using it, the pillars and the blasts coming off it, the ability to spread it around and how one Thrall can lead to 7 is all pretty dang awesome. The concept is great and sure it does look like a mishmash of Nekros' Shadows of the Dead and Nyx's Chaos but it feels unique and in it's own.

The pillars themselves are pretty cool too, the damage does feel a bit weak I'll say that but I do love the homing spheres they've added in! The pillars feel like little turrets now and that's awesome.

However while Enthrall does have some pretty awesome elements with it, It also has it's problems and sadly they are pretty heavy ones. I've boiled them down to several points which I'll go over.

    1. Casting and Spread.
    2. Living Thralls Problems.
    3. Synergy
    4. Thrall Cap

    Casting and Spread

From what I understand Enthralls casting concept is: "Cast once and let it populate itself" Which in itself is a cool idea but in execution it doesn't quite end up there. The issue isn't so much with the casting but how it spreads and how Thralls while living work. Thralls draw aggro now, which if you have a couple of them is great, but if you're following what I believe is the casting concept and only  cast once rather then spamming the ability, you're going to find that the Thrall is going to swamped easily and quite often not spread the Enthralling to a new target, or if they do it's also likely they'll get swamped as well!

So to fix that you'll have to pretty much fill the Thrall Cap yourself by spamming the ability, and if you are with someone running a strong CC frame too, that pretty much feels like all you'll be doing if you want to not only fill the cap, but have Thralls around long enough to work with your other skills synergy.

What'd I change? Keep the single cast but allow the ability to charge up  by holding down the button for a few seconds, and on release allowing Enthrall to chain up to 3 targets and Enthralling them for a increased energy cost.

This would give the Thralls a strong chance to spread around since the aggro would be spread over 3 targets instead of one, plus it would give you 3 quick Thralls to use Reave on to recover Health/Shield + Mesmer Skin.

     Living Thrall Problems / Synergy

Thralls are meant to die, that much is pretty clear! They draw aggro, take damage from allies, lose health when Reaved and so on! When a target is Enthralled it's pretty much a mark for death, and while I don't have a issue with that, I have a issue with how dependent other skills are for living Thralls.

His survival  infact depends on his Thralls being alive rather than being a pillar turret, He needs living Thralls for: Reaving Health and shields, drawing aggro, replenishing Mesmer Skin and Overshields made by Danse Macabre.

The problem is though, I'm not exactly sure HOW to fix this without other issues... Allowing Pillars to be reaved for the same benefits, might work but by doing that you'd pretty much lose that need for living Thralls, only to have them as aggro sinks till they die. But this would have the knock on effect of making Revenant more static and can only move as fast as he's able to create pillars, Not to mention given how fast pillars are made, you'll essentially have a unlimited supply of Mesmer Skin recharges, especially if the pillars are grouped together. That would seem a little bit broken to me.

Truth be told: I can't really think of anyway of fixing this skill and it's synergy without a complete rework into something else. That's not saying the idea is a bad one, quite the opposite! I love the idea of Enthrall and what it could do. But I just don't think it's had the result it was expected to get.

    Thrall Cap

From re-watching Devstreams with Revenant in it, there was a lot of talk about the cap and how many Thralls you could have under your control, I believe the number was between 15-20? then on release it got scaled down to 4. Now for what Revenant can do with his Kit 4 was far too low, and kudos to the team for quickly upping the cap to 7! Sadly I don't think this is enough either but the idea of 4 gave me a idea for a augment.

I can understand not having a really high cap, anything like 15-20 does seem a bit too much as you'd pretty much control a single room at that point.  So a balance must be struck.

From how I see it, since Thralls don't have increased health or damage like Nekros' minions (quite rightly) they need a advantage in another area and I think you've already got the right idea: Numbers.

I think the cap should be increased to maybe 12-14. having a number like that would give Thralls plenty of numbers, and  able to replenish themselves a lot easier. (once the cap is reached)

    Augment Idea: Elevate

This is also a expansion of a idea i had in a previous post in this thread, just tidied up a bit more and with more information!

Elevate is a Augment for Enthrall to allow Revenant to empower 2-4 Thralls to act as personal guards, (Recasting Enthrall on a Thrall will empower it) These guards gain a slight increase in damage and health (50-75%), draw aggro, ally damage immunity, but take slightly more damage then normal (10-20%) and glow red to so they show that they are empowered.

Aside from all that. When Revenant starts taking Health damage he'll start leeching the life force of his empowered Thralls till either they die from the drain or enemy fire. (or both!)

Just a off cuff idea really, but I hope you'll like it!

You have a really interesting take on a minion-master playstyle, Something completely different than Nekros' specialized/empowered shadows and Nyx's Chaos and Mind Control. But still feels pretty great to someone who likes summoners. I already like Revenant a lot and can't wait to see what you'll do with him.

  4. Righto, I've had a good play with Revenant on various modes and even a few sorties... Gotta be said I DO LIKE this Warframe a lot, but he suffers the same problem Nekros does with his SotD which limits his uses in other modes aside from Survival and Defense style missions and honestly aside from his 1st and 4th he doesn't do it as well.

It really boils down to his Enthrall, but I'll get into that later.

    - Passive -

Let's start with his passive, a knockdown AoE upon shield depletion which on paper looks great! But in practice ehh... I get the idea but the range! oh dear, the range is waaay too short to be useful, even for melee targets... plus with my build I rarely see it trigger. (High shields + Arcane Aegis / Raksa Protect)

I've seen some good ideas for passive changes but if anything just make the radius bigger!

    - Mesmer Skin -

I actually have very little to say about this one, I have seen other peoples complaints and suggestions on it and honestly they do have merit. But I've rarely had a issue with it though I do have to agree with one complaint: the casting speed for that ability is far too slow. it kinda makes Speed Drift a necessity.

    - Reave -

Out of all his skills, I really dislike this one the most. Charge skills in Warframe never felt that powerful to me this one more so.  You are pretty dependent on your Thralls for recovery and given how fast they get annihilated it doesn't feel that useful.

I'd lose the charge and switch to a large AoE Aura, that siphons health/shields (scaling with PStrength and PRange?) from nearby Thralls, still keeps that vampire aspect you're going for and rewards the player for making Thralls!

    - Danse Macabre -

Same with Mesmer skin, I don't really have many complaints about it, but the energy drain increase I fully understand why it was needed, tis a nice ability really.

And now the longest part... - Enthrall -

This one ability gives Reverent a form of Identity crisis... is he a Summoner? a Overlord with a horde of minions at his back? Or a kind of crowd controller, by turning enemies into allies and causing infighting to help you or your team clear them out.

This skill is like a odd mix of Nyx's Chaos and Mind Control coupled with Nekro's SotD... Has some of the benefits of those skills but ALL of the problems. I wish I was kidding too.

I understand this skill is really just for generating a resource to get the best out of his other skills, not a lightweight SotD!  This is true and that's how it should be but by doing that you've given Revenant a massive set of problems, which cripples him badly.

You see: Enemies turned allies through means like Enthrall / SotD  and Mind Control etc, are generally useless for a number of reasons. I'd say Enthralls fits all these problems...

    - Enemy on Enemy Damage: When you have Enemies/Allies fighting other enemies without Nekros' multipliers  or the Mind Control Augment the damage they do is pretty much nothing but I will say in Enthralls case, this doesn't matter as it's only real objective is to spread the infection(?) to other targets till you hit cap and keep replenishing to that cap

Although I'm for sure in the camp of people who would have loved to see a slight increase of damage, given they are infused with Sentient energy but I can understand why this might not happen.

    - Speed vs Static: This is one of the biggest issues Nekros faces with his minions too. They really don't keep up with you. Now Revenant can easily replace Thralls quickly true, while Nekros pretty much has to recast his ability but: Unlike Nekros, Revenant is pretty dependent on his cap not being full for this to happen, and given how quickly Enthrall can spread with Grineer especially you might find yourself waiting for the skill to expire or running back to kill the Thralls.

The problem with Enemy-like Minions is they are generally static. They don't travel as fast as we do, especially from room to room! With Nekros it's kinda manageable (build depending) but with Revenant, you're running from room to room with your resources way behind you and no way to replenish them apart from waiting for it to expire or just running back, it really slows you and the mission down.

    - Slowing Down Missions: [Removed due to finding out the Thralls not longer count towards enemy count!

    - Wrap Up -

I love this Warframe, I really do! the style, the energy pouring out, the concept of the whole thing is great but: the confusion of what he's meant to be is what's really crippling him from his potential. You've got a mix of a Summoner and a Crowd controller that is completely different to Nekros but still offers a different take on the minion master play style to people who want it. (like me for instance)

But from my perspective his first ability is what's killing him because of the sheer indecisiveness of what it's trying to do. Is it a resource generator?  a means of making allies? or easy crowd control?

If it's a resource generator then it's missing opportunity in other areas and becomes not really worth using since it's faster to kill a enemy rather then convert it.

If it's for making allies then it also not worth it due to them being weak, static and killable by allies (mostly on accident) making Reave nearly worthless and in turn making Enthrall worthless.

if it's for crowd control then it's limited to a few areas of the map and mission types due to the static problem and most often it's still better/faster to kill that target rather then convert.

To me Enthrall is trying to do all those things and not doing a good job at it. Worse still this CAN BE a great skill! but I think the way it's going about it is wrong.

My suggestion? Keep the Thralls the same as a resource for his other abilities! But offer through the means of a augment the ability to elevate a Thrall (2-3 of them) into a Protector or bodyguard if you will (Someone covered this kind of idea a few pages back and it's super!) allowing them to protect Revenant with a small set of bonuses to damage, health and movement speed (+ teleport to Revenant after a certain number of meters) but at the cost of receiving any kind of healing from outside sources so they'll have to be replaced after they die plusthe means to spread the Enthrall ability too.

It'd fit well with the vampire style as from what I've read in books and in games it's pretty common for vampires to turn powerful thrall-like entities into personal guardians to protect them.

A change like that would cover all bases and elimnate most problems! Minions, expendable resources for health recovery and overshields and decent CC from the spread and pillars while keeping to what Revenant is all about without encroaching on other Warframes.

Maybe also turn Reave into that AoE Aura siphon as I said before, draining life/shields off normal Thralls while damaging them for it's duration.

That's just my two cents though, I love the frame and can't wait to see what will happen to it!

  5. I love using minions and you really nailed it on the head here with their problems.

I'm a Nekros main but I've given up using him on anything outside of: Survival, Defense, and Mobile Defense because it's just not worth it, by the time I've summoned my shadows, the team or my partner has already cleaned out the room and onto the next.

This is a excellent post and I hope DE reads it!

  6. Pretty much what the title asks!

See I'm running around with Chroma and my pet Charger, I was curious to see if Vex armor and Elemental ward affected him at all?

I know it's likely to work on him anyway but I was wondering if you can see it on your HUD like when you get a status effect on yourself or a buff that is active such as Growing Power but next to your companions health bar?

Maybe it's a option in the setting I've missed or it's not a feature yet(or ever) just looking for some clarification!

  7. Hello there!

I like to solo high level survival a lot with Nekros and often take a Tenno Specter (usually vapor or phase) with me! very useful when you have Shadows of the Dead active, feels like having a lieutenant or something ha.

However I can never decide on what combination of Warframe and weapons to use for my specter, I've tried many kinds and tend to bounce between the few I'll list below, but I was wondering what is a good specter setup to use for a Shadows Nekros?

Here are the Specter setups I've already tried, maybe I was on the right track?

    [Warframe]

Atlas: Fairly tanky, offers a nice bit of knock down with his landslide punch and having him spawn a Rumbler now and again to draw even more aggro is nice! not to mention the rumbler is extremely tanky. Atlas does struggle a fair bit as he doesn't have any self sustain even with Hema or Hirudo on him he does struggle..

Chroma: My current specter frame! Gives the bonuses of Elemental Ward (Extra Health) and Vex Armor (Scorn and Fury) to me! I'm not exactly sure if the bonus health also applies to my shadows it's very hard to tell sadly. Effigy is pretty useful too since the specter will cast it  often and stays around for a pretty along time, not to mention the scream it does is a really nice bit of CC.

Harrow: The Harrow specter has a lot of self sustain and supportive abilities which I find complements Nekros really well, Harrow gives pretty strong healing and energy restore with the right weapon and a little few seconds of invulnerability and decent CC added on top of it makes him pretty useful! I don't think his healing ability affects my shadows though but in terms of everything else, he's pretty good, though even with all that, he sometimes struggles staying alive in high end survival (especally after he used up all his shields for Penance) I do need to a eye on him at times.

Inaros: Just a monsterious tank when in specter form!  with a insanely high health and armor pool, decent CC from Sandstorm and Desiccation and a small bit of healing on top makes him a strong tanking option, I know once he's setup I don't have to worry too much since I know he'd be still going strong even with a chunk of health missing. Inaros specters do however ironically suffer from self sustain issues! while the modified Scarab Swarm does seem to heal him slightly, I don't think the healing scales with him at higher levels? maybe cause it's in small amounts same as Desiccations life steal? Maybe I'm missing something?

Nidus:  Nidus seems to cover nearly all the bases and complements Nekros  well! He has a pretty decent health pool + high armor, passive self regeneration (hard to tell in higher level missions though) is able to build stacks and avoid being killed! His last two abilities are really nice for tanky or caster Warframes, you get a 28% increase to Ability Strength which I'm pretty sure also affects your shadows (I'm sure this is the case) and with his 4th ability if you stand in the breeding ground you gain a lot of health regeneration along with Nidus if he stands in it, I'm also sure this works on Nekro's shadows too but not 100% sure on it.

    [PRIMARY WEAPONS]

Ignis: Not amazing but works really well in tight closed off corners which I do like to position myself in, The near constant flame barrage is nice especially on infested survival

Torid: This infested launcher is a nice pick! lots of Toxin damage and base status change means it's causing toxin procs quite often which is pretty helpful vs Grineer

Dread: Works pretty damn well though Specters and Bows are somewhat interesting, lots of high single target slash damage and procs.

Tigris: The double barrel shotguns are monsterious weapons to have on specters, all types (Prime, Santci, Basic) are extremely powerful up close

Any advice would be wonderful! :)
