  1. In  years past, the Dev team has done a projection of the upcoming year- plans, aspirations, and a detailed reflection on the past year. I felt like we didn't really get to see that going into 2016, probably because you sneaky storytellers were holding out on plot points for TWW, which I understand, but I think more clarity with plans and goals for the year would be awesome to hear. <3

  2. I am not a fan of that passive at all. That would make her a liability in and long term mission. Also please explain "Lunar Glow" at the beginning. I guess I don't understand what it means. Because I read it all and it is still confusing. I see the #4 as being needed but you don't unlock #4 for a long time while leveling a frame so someone using it at rank 0 or 1 will have barely any use.

8 energy per second is A LOT. That means with 175 starting energy she has 22 seconds of energy before its gone. Then a pickup of 25 energy lasts about 3 seconds. But your first ability COSTS 25 energy. the second you pick up 1 orb then you still won't be able to use the first ability because you would have less than the needed amount. Essentially that energy drain makes all of her abilities useless. So until she unlocks her #4 the energy drain is too much and its essentially a frame with no abilities.

Are you saying she can't carry any weapons? Because that is what it sounds like to me.

Oh, nonono, she can carry weapons, the ability use them, however, is just toggled off only when you use the ultimate.

And the energy drain might be a lot, yeah- that could obviously be adjusted, and perhaps the passive doesn't actually come into effect until the ultimate is available.

  3. Conceptual Warframes: Luna (alternatively named Artemis)

Before I get into Luna, I think some lore discussion is in order, considering events from the Second Dream. Obviously the moon is incredibly important to the Tenno, the Orokin, the Sentients, Alad V, and, it would seem, just about everyone else in the solar system. It also contains the reservoir, which is where the operators sleep in their dream state. Considering these things, I think a moon-based Warframe makes sense, and should be considerably powerful, as it seems to be a source of Tenno power.

    Health: 50 (150 at rank 30)

    Shields: 225 (350 at rank 30)

    Armor: 15

    Sprint Speed: 1.1

    Power: 175 (400 at rank 30)

Passive ability: Luna begins any mission with max energy capacity, regardless of power total. Her energy also drains over time at a rate of 8 energy/s. (affected by power efficiency and power duration)

Edit: Lunar Glow is also described in Luna's ultimate, but because it's referenced elsewhere, the description of its mechanic is right here. Also tweaked some of the wording so it's a little easier to understand.

-After 25 seconds (affected by power duration) of Wax and Wane being active, the Lunar Glow reaches its max glow capacity of 100% and remains at 100% for 10 seconds (affected by power duration) before it begins to decrease over the course of 25 seconds (affected by power duration) to 0% Lunar Glow, wherein the process begins again.

Wax and Wane can be ended at any time with no deactivation cost to keep the Lunar glow percentage where it is. The effects from Wax and Wane, including the effects affected by Lunar glow will end, but other abilities are affected by the percentage of Lunar glow.

Ability 1: 25 Energy- Gibbous: Luna emits a burst of powerful energy onto a target, dealing 500 puncture damage (affected by power strength) over 5 seconds (100 per tick) and reducing the target’s armor rating up to 100% based on her percentage of her max energy when Gibbous was cast.

Ability 2: 5 Energy- Dark Side of The Moon: Luna turns the tide of the battle by reducing her lunar glow to 0% for 7 seconds. All enemies within a 40 meter radius (affected by power range) become afflicted by darkness and attack Luna instead of attacking allies while her Lunar Glow remains at 0%. Luna also receives a 150 point increase in shields (affected by power strength) when Dark Side of The Moon is cast while at 0% Lunar Glow.

Ability 3: 75 Energy- Full Moon: Luna lets forth a wave of energy in a radius of 40 meters around her (affected by power range) that deals 400 puncture damage (affected by power strength) and up to 4 instances of the puncture proc based on percentage of lunar glow (25%: 1 proc, 50%: 2 procs, 75%: 3 procs, 100%: 4 procs) before Full moon was cast, to all targets in its radius. Full Moon also adds 5% lunar glow for each enemy affected by the ability.

Ability 4: 100 Energy- Wax and Wane: Luna summons her energy and uses it to levitate, with a decreased movement speed of 0.8. While in this state, the battlefield slowly becomes bathed in a Lunar Glow (from 0% to 100%) and Luna’s energy stops decreasing over time. She also becomes immune to crowd control effects, but all damage done to her shields or health decreases her energy with 800% efficiency. (affected by power strength) Luna also cannot use weapons while the ability is active.

-The Lunar Glow from Wax and Wane gives a buff to allies in line of sight, increasing all ally damage by 2.5x (affected by power strength) at max Lunar Glow, giving all ally attacks a 15% (affected by power strength) chance at max lunar glow to blind enemies, (opening them up for finisher attacks) and decreasing enemy damage by 50% at 0% Lunar Glow.

-Luna is unaffected by Energy Siphon when Wax and Wane is active.

    -

The goal of Luna as a Warframe is to provide a theme-heavy support. She is meant to represent the phases of the moon and the lore surrounding the power imbued in the moon both in human tales and the moon's relevance to Tenno existence. As a support Warframe, she sacrifices her ability to use her weapons to provide a powerful buff to allies and a debuff to enemies. Her abilities allow for different strategies in that her energy decreases over time but can be stopped by the use of her fourth ability, which affects her other abilities. She acts as a conduit of buffs and debuffs as well as a potential aggro puller.

  4. Do you guys plan on having more tradeable resource commodities in game? (such as cores- R5's these days go for ~1 platinum) Of the list of things that can be traded, most of them are not reliably obtained or used to make something larger. (like cores) My issue is that tradechat is primarily for prime parts and rare mods, both of which are behind a wall of RNG. And while RNG can sometimes be tolerable, do you plan on making a new, tradeable resource that is more reliably obtained than rare prime parts? Perhaps something that players need a lot of?

  5. Everyone may complain about this change, but I think it makes sense not only from a mechanical/ balancing standpoint but also from a logical, in game reason, as Megan explained. I'm not one to preach, but please respect the hard work and difficult decisions the Dev team makes, as making a game with this size and scope that must also appeal to much of its fanbase is a daunting task.

  6. Every time I go to mod a frame of mine, I continue to run into the same issue- I don't have enough slots on my warframe to put in as many mods as I want. Warframes have ten mod slots while weapons have eight, but it feels like there's less room on a Warframe because of the spots taken up by abilities, and those sometimes hampering ability polarities.

So, my suggestion (is it game breaking? we may never know) is that we have the option to add up to two more mod slots on a Warframe. To do this, I think it'd be best if the game required us to put five forma into the frame for each mod slot. Now, this might just seem reasonable for me because I never have enough Neural sensors to make all the forma I want to (so many blueprints, aaaahhhh) but it might be too easy for other players. Another option is to introduce a new (very difficult to farm) resource that allows us to do this to our frames.

Modding my warframe is one of my favorite parts of the game, but having the abilities take up up to four slots creates a problem for me. If we could invest more time to put more mods on, then I think it would add a new dimension and goal for more veteran players.

  7. Saw some art of an Ember/ Rhino combo on tumblr and couldn't get it out of my head, so I decided to do some Warframe combos, abilities and all. I don't know if these combos or ideas have been posted before, but I love what I've come up with, so I thought I'd give it a go.

I tried to go with a good blend of both, fusing their abilities into something useful and thematic.

Anyways, here you go- it's nice to post something again!

    Ember and Hydroid: Vapor

Really wanted to go with the steam theme here, and it ended up having a lot of buffing/ debuffing, which I like!

Fireball + Tempest  Barrage= Steam Barrage: Shoots multiple boiling steam projectiles that melt armor and flesh on contact, turning enemies into gas.

Accelerant + Tidal Surge= Accelerated Dash: Vapor dashes forward instantly, radiating an aura that slows and damages enemies. If Vapor hits a target, she stops and performs a finisher on the target.

Fire Blast + Undertow= Plasma Form: Vapor increases the movement of her molecules exponentially, first becoming liquid, then gas, then plasma,  increasing her defenses and making her harder to hit, as well as damaging enemies who do.

World on Fire + Tentacle Swarm= Boil: Vapor turns all enemies around her into steam, slowly damaging them over time but also rendering them completely incapable of doing anything for the duration, but taking no outside damage.

    Nyx and Valkyr : Waergan

I always thought it would be cool to have a warrior mage that drew lots of attention and could take the heat, and Valkyr and Nyx are two of my faves, so I thought it might be great!

Mind Control + Rip Line= Mind Rip: Waergan pulls an enemy to her with dark forces, imbuing it with power, but tearing its mind apart, making it hers to control. The enemy will stay near her and draw attention for the duration.

Psychic Bolts + Warcry= Psychic Bellow: A loud psychic wave of energy hits enemies’ minds with crushing force in a radius around Waaergan, staggering them and making them less effective in combat for a short duration by reducing their accuracy and defenses.

Chaos and Paralysis= Aggravation: Waergan sends a blast of psychic energy in front of her, drawing the attention of all caught in its blast to attack only her for the duration. Gives her a small damage protection from those enemies, converting 5% of all attacks against her shields into energy.

Absorb + Hysteria= Enduring Absorption: Drawing psychic energy from the enemies around her, Waergan becomes invulnerable with dark energy barriers, but becomes rooted to the spot from the particles increased gravity. The more enemies she draws energy from the longer the ability remains stable. This state draws attention of nearby enemies and enables Waergan to use energy whips that do more damage the longer she stays in the state.

    Banshee and Volt: Tempest

I just looked at Banshee and Volt and thought STORM WARFRAME and couldn't stop myself.

Sonic Boom + Shock= Thunder: Tempest vibrates the electrons of the air above him and gathers the electricity in his hand, sending a clap of thunder in a radius around him and electrifying a single enemy.

Sonar + Speed= Discharge: Tempest becomes charged with electricity and jumps from target to target in a small group, stunning and damaging each of them and marking them to be damaged more on following attacks.

Silence + Electric Shield= Cloud Cover: Tempest electrocutes the ground in a line, sending clouds of smoke up, obscuring enemies’ vision and hearing through the cloud and damaging any that walk through it.

Sound Quake + Overload= Raging Storm: Tempest summons a great storm over a large area of effect that sends down blinding flashes of light, staggering claps of thunder or stunning shocks of electricity to enemies randomly for the duration.

Let me know what you guys think!
  8. Ok to be clear I read both of the articles. First, Warframe hasn't been in beta for "several years" LOL and second, the Tenno aren't confirmed as human. So there could be a various number of "sexes" and physical features that define a "female" and "male" warframe. Third, I think there was an official announcement that the warframes are a channeling technology that simply distribute the Tenno's power. So for all we know, the Tenno might not be even solid in nature. They could be pure energy. I'll quote Salad V from the Gradivus Dillema when you supported the corpus "Speech 1: Tenno, you know, we may not always see eye to eye... well, you don't have eyes, but I'm pleased to see we've found common ground in our fight with these Grineer dogs." The Tenno don't have eyes according to Salad V. So, for all we know they could be anything.

This is very true! This is a really interesting discussion that is really anotherwhole thread in itself- whether or not the Tenno are human at all (post, transhuman or not) and what implications that has. The article I wrote was speculation and also how it comes off to many players- not really concerning canon.

  9. I believe that I understand you in this ...

Far too much reactionary thinking and too little rational thought

However, for those interested in evolutionary postdimorphic "transhumanism" I would refer you to Michael J. Sullivan's superb SF novel "Hollow World"

Personally, given the amount of mythological allusion used in Warframe, I think that incorporating the masculine, the feminine and the androgynous mystiques into the game are not only valid and consistent but amplify the storytelling power

Example:  Valkyr immediately conjures the helmed and valiant honor guard of Norse, Skaldic, Visigoth and even Anglo-Saxon legends

Finally, I submit for consideration the following scholarly, informative and neutral works on the power of gender:

    1. The Hero With A Thousand Faces, Joseph Campbell - a essential classic on the mythos of the hero/heroine story

    2. Women Who Run With The Wolves, Clarissa Pinkola Estes - an excellent and exhaustive treatise based upon Jungian perspective

    3. The Hero and The Goddess, Jean Houston - an invaluable bridge between the masculine and feminine principles based upon an analysis of Homer's The Odyssey

Other authors include Robert A. Johnson, Robert Moore and Douglas Gillette and of course, CG Jung

I agree with this very much! There is a lot of power in gender, in all expressions of it across the spectrum from Male to female- I would very much disagree with making the frames all gender neutral or something (even though gender neutral usually tends to look male, because male is considered the standard) because as you say- gender can amplify sotrytelling, and I think it also allows people to associate with characters of certain genders more.

Like, I love Valkyr because I am attuned to her expression of femininity and I relate to her in that way, as well as others.

Which is why female representation is so important.

Those works sound very interesting, I'll have to look them up...

  10. I find it more amusing how all of her claims are entirely false. Also by saying that all the other "aliens" are clearly male isn't she subjugating them, maybe Rhino thinks of himself as a strong independent black women who needs no man huh. She also tries to make the tenno's actions against the "aliens" sound bad when they are more then justified. Yet again this is a tumblr feminist the worst kind of person anywhere on the internet.

Interesting how you assumed the OP is a woman... But yeah, I agree- this person was really just pulling stuff out of no where to make a rant post. If you're going to criticize a piece of media, do it thoughtfully.

  11. It's a game, there are plenty of games out there that only have MALE characters. IMO some game developers just don't like creating females, that doesn't mean it's sexist though...

Since I am a woman, I enjoy playing female frames more than male, so I guess if they never had anything other than mag I would be kinda like "feh" but I would never make a big deal about it. It does make the game a bit more enjoyable having them.

I'd actually argue that a team of game developers who inexplicably don't like to include or create female characters in their games does qualify them as sexist. Keep in mind that game developers and aspects of the game itself can be sexist and wrong while the game on the whole can still be fantastic.

That's why I included the word "progressive" in this post because I think a big part of including females in games is just about this being a step forward- because women need to be represented in games.

  12. I like to think of it as, there are the real feminists, all for equality and such. These people are perfectly fine.

And then there are the "All men are evil and must die" feminists. These people are absurd and seem to make up most of the tumblr feminist community.

While it may seem that they people who just want men to die are the majority of tumblr, I can confirm that they are simply the ones who get the most attention outside of tumblr for how ridiculous they are. Case in point being this post.

  13. After reading a bit more, I think you may have been trolled.

Like, y'know, Concerned Moms Against Anime.

Even so, considering how ridiculously gullible people are... someone had to set it straight. Don't want people getting the wrong idea just because someone may or may not have been trolling.

You know, you might be right- this might be trolling, but no one can slander the good name of Warframe while I'm around. It... did seem like it was written by a 14 year old.

That does make me alittle frustrated about how seriously I took the last part, where I "appreciated their effort" >.<

  14. So, just a few days ago, while scrolling through tumblr, a post with some pretty ridiculous claims as to Warframe's level of sexism caught my eye, and then made me really angry, and I responded to it: http://slumpykake.tumblr.com/post/95511781669/yanderesamantha-truestfeminist

Now, firstly- this post was a complete smackdown on my part, I am not humble in that regard. However, it made me think a little bit more about Warframe's values, our community and where the game lies on the spectrum of progressiveness and feminism.

Additionally, I am curious to know what the community thinks or notices about the game's values.

Also, this was forever ago, but I volunteer wrote an article for gaygamer on Warframe and Gender fluidity (also including a little game theory)

    http://gaygamer.net/2014/03/gender-and-sex-fluidity-digital-extremes-warframes-unintentional-queer-commentary/

I'd really just love to get the ball rolling and see what you guys think.

  15. Lore has changed already (just look at the two examples in my post). Im not saying that DE has no right to change it, im just saying that it isn't good to do it. Sure we are in a Beta (no need to remind me) but still if people learn the lore and then it suddenly changes you just can't simply forget the old lore, espacially if you liked the old lore.

I personally was really happy that Warframe was "just" a Coop and PvE Game and didn't had any PvP and PvP was actually not possilbe with the old lore. So im sticking with the old lore i learned when i started Warframe and that was in the Gmae for quiet some time and avoid PvP as much as possible.

Agreed, I understand that concern- for shifting the universe they have built once everyone gets used to it. It's a completely viable concern.

However I do not think it is reason enough not to release more lore for those of us already very invested in the game. I think the risk inherent to giving us more lore is one that DE needs to take. Not saying you were saying that, just building off of what you said.

  16. Im guessing that they want to release as minimum lore as possible so they can change gameplay elements or frames or whatever without beeing afraid of going away from the lore. As soon as the game is in a place where it won't change much anymore im betting we will see more and more lore.

Just take PvP as an example. The original Lore in the very early CB was that Tenno never ever fight against each other. Well now we have PvP and the Lore had to be changed. Or take Nova, original Lore was that Nova was a frame which was designed by the Tenno Council which would have ment that a Prime Version of Nova was not possible. Lore was changed so they can do it if they want to.

Currently there is still the possibility that certain things might change or have to be changed and Lore would kind of force them to keep it.

I for example, absolutly dislike PvP because i started playing Warframe with that original Lore. Even if its changed now i still remember the old one and avoid PvP.

I agree, I think this is a very good reason for DE not to insert too much lore, but I think a year and a half in that some more solid groundwork can be laid, and really needs to be laid down, especially with older players feeling as if they have nothing to do and newer players being simply confused (though of course U14 helped that quite a lot.)

I think if lore needed to be changed then it wouldn't be a huge deal first, and second, DE has the complete right to do that, because as many of us forget, this game is in beta.

  17. I like the idea of farmable lore but they shouldn't put those in the void drop tables. Void farming is annoying as it is. Also new players shouldn't be ommited from the game's story. I say they put the lore in, lets say interception missions or regular def. This way it kind of ties with the gameplay, you are intercepting some information the corpus found out about the great war for example.

Also De should really, and I do mean really put some effort into the lore. First of all it will make a lot of people happy and that is never a bad thing. Second, warframe has huge potential for its lore. The world is simply fascinating, who were the sentients, who were the orokin and what happened to them, who is the stalker, what are we -the Tenno. Hell, if they make some sort of story driven missions a la mass effect, this will be oficially the best third person shooter ever. There is so much to explore and build upon and I really hope DE have been putting this off so they can first build the game on a technical level and then expand on that base with lore.

I really wouldn't mind at all if the next 5 or 10 updates have no or very little new content and instead focus on lore and world building. Put in some more of those awesome short trailers as in game clips and I am sure most people will be quite content with it.

    Exactly.

Warframe is designed to make the player feel powerful and important- as are all videogames. (which is another topic I may write on soon)

However, I feel the best, and the most badass when I play as Valkyr, because she is one of the only 'frames with a story behind her, the Zanuka Project. Warframe focuses too much on making shiny new additions with each update to a game that already has enough shiny things, (insert lens flare here) and making those shiny things hard to get, and at least in part worth it, but the game needs to give us REASONS behind what we are doing, which I think tidbits of lore would supply.

Giving us a purpose (as opposed to just a reason for farming) to do long defense or interception missions by making the information or being intercepted or defended valuable and impactful would immerse players even further, great idea.

Each element of the game has the potential to have a massive amount of story behind it, and as mentioned, we already know that some elements already do have large story chunks behind them- yet they are not being expanded or explained.

Not to ring my own bell too much, but I think this is why tiny lore capsules would be a good way for DE to begin to feed the obviously much, much larger plot into a game that has trouble otherwise carrying its own story effectively.

  18. Hi there, general feedback discussion.

Updates 14's strongest points were undoubtedly the feeling of immersion and world building that it gave to players, through the hard work of the Kubrow, player ship, questing, etc, but there is an easier way to immerse players into the game, a subject of much heated discussion and of much griping by us players.

I'm talking about lore, obviously. DE has released tidbits of lore over the game's life, through allusions made by characters, codex entries, and more, but why is this so uncommon?

In one of my many farming missions recently it occurred to me that it might be fun to get small bits of story on my 35+ minute long runs in various towers and missions.

Effectively, this would make lore a farmable resource. Rather than a small cache of credits, I would greatly prefer a small text entry. It would take little effort from DE to write several hundred of these (There are many, many talented writers out there) and scatter them into the mid-tier drop tables. Even a four line long poem would be worth half an hour's work. Or perhaps multiple parts that are incoherent until united?

Now, I know that the Quests are a thing, and that they give us large chunks of small stories within the Warframe universe, but that takes voice acting (probably primarily on DE_Rebecca's part) and additional work, some of which I'm sure many people will be disappointed with anyways.

However, if lore is made a common drop that could be paired with something else (A weapon part, or some resource) it would give players more of an incentive to play longer missions or do more mundane farming.

Of course, this idea is derived directly from the way older style RPGs run with finding information scattered as well as the cereal box style collection system of finding multiple parts that solve a simple riddle, but I think it might have a place here.

You might be asking how lore would have value to a single player, since it could be uploaded to the forums and shared, thus surpassing the need for farming it at all, but I think if the lore tidbits (I guess that's what I'm calling them now) were numerous enough, random enough, and small enough this might not be an issue.

What do you think? Would you want lore tidbits to be put into some of the droptables, or are they already diluted enough- or is lore worth it to you as well?

  19. That's not entirely true, the parry mod just increases the chance for the enemy to stagger when they hit your block while channeling. Other wise it's a game against RNG when it comes to pulling off a parry attack, but you have to be channeling in order for it to proc.

Exactly. The point of the shield buff would be that they would not need mods or anything for the parrying- but it's an action you can take with the weapon, even when you're not using it, similarly to how you can quick attack with melee weapons, this would be like a quick block.

  20. Yeah, Silva and Aegis really only looks good on my ember prime. But I was actually thinking more along the lines of another stand alone prime melee weapon that uses Dakra Prime's model for the sword(when it comes to putting more sword and shield weapons into the game). As for adding shields to existing swords in the game, I think that's actually a really cool idea, but I don't know if it could be implemented with the current system in place. I think that in order for existing swords to get shields with them, they would have to be new weapons. And it would be cool to see shields with daggers, but only if the shields were bucklers.

I think the shield with an alreayd existing sword could work, though, as long as they kept using the Eleventh storm stance.

  21. I think all melee should normally have a chance to perform parry counter and the Parry mod works on that base stats.  Silva & Aegis just need to have the highest chance and shortest counterattack animation.

By innate % to do parry counter attack, I think we should have Heavy < Two Handed Weapon < Dual Weapons < Single Sword = Dagger < Sword & Board

I've never been a fan of autoparries- it interrupts my personal flow of combat.

  22. I like the idea and the logic behind it, but I'd rather wait for a more impressive sword and shield weapon to be released. Personally, I ship adding a shield to Dakra Prime. But any sword and board without fire is fine with me. Silva and Aegis looks cool, but fire just doesn't fit my main frames personally and I'd like to see more variety in this weapon category soon.

I too would like a better sword and shield released. Also, less elemental weapons, please? Makes it difficult to stick to a theme sometimes. I think if a new mechanic is implemented, though it should be tested out now, before we buy more sword and shields and don't really like them. :P

That's another idea, though, simply adding different shields to swords/ daggers. Would that become OP?

  23. Thanks, glad you like the idea- I do agree that it should have at least reduced stamina to block- I mean that only makes sense- we don't have to go spinning our shield around like batons like we do with other weapons.

I do think though, that shields are generally low damage weapons, which is fine- I'm okay with low- medium stats, as long as something else makes them valuable.
