Maybe if you kill the pilot before the dargyn it counts the pilot as "on the ground" as they aren't falling and so doesn't count, but i don't know. If you need help with this challenge, i recommend using Titania's Spellbound(first ability) on pilots before they enter the dargyn, as it counts as them being airborne when you kill them, or use atlus' petrify on flying pilots and try and kill the dargyn first.
