Demonoid
Hello, so I've been wanting to play this game again but whenever I try to I crash within 3-5 mins of launching the game. All that happens is the client closes/goes black and a little pop-up window appears saying the evolution engine has crashed. I have no clue why, it just does. Every other game I own runs fine, just Warframe that isn't working.. Now I've tried disabling DirectX 11, 64bit mode, & Multi Threading. enable/disable with different combos of settings, pretty much tried every setting via the launcher and game settings. And I still crashed. Checked all my hardware drivers, windows drivers/updates, and bios to make sure there up to date and they are. I've virtually tried just about every suggested quick fix out there, and I keep getting the same crash over and over. I'd really like to enjoy the game, but I simply can't play it.. :S Here's my DxDiag, and the only thing I have overclocked is my cpu @ 4.5 GHz. ------------------ System Information ------------------ Time of this report: 9/16/2013, 09:21:46 Machine name: QUASER-PC Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.130801-1533) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: To Be Filled By O.E.M. Demonoid
It's never affected any of my other games, I don't see why this would be any different. I could play the game in the past, but I stopped playing for a few months and now it just doesn't want to work.
Demonoid
So I found one thing that is odd. I opened my steam library, right clicked Warframe, opened properties, and selected verify integrity of game cache, and it found 77 missing files. So it reacquired them and I opened the launcher again only to have it re-patch the client. So again I opened properites in the library and it said 77 files were missing.. again. I think there's some kinda sync error here, and it may or may not be my problem. sigh.. Edit: I had steam verify the games cache again and this time it said 143 files were missing?! Now I'm completely befuddled as to whats going on.. o_o Edited September 16, 2013 by Demonoid
Morcant
You're barking up the wrong tree. Warframe patches itself independently of Steam's infrastructure, so verifying through Steam is just rolling you back to the last version they have in their distribution system. You appear to be using the 314.22 Geforce drivers. Try updating to the current release version, 320.49, or the current beta, 326.80.

Well I tried updating to 320.49 and I'm still getting the same crash. For a moment there I thought it worked and then nope. Guess I could try the beta drivers but I have a hunch I'd get the same results. Edit: Updated my intel drivers as well, but with no success. Still getting the same thing.. Guess all I can do now is wait for a patch. Edit: Well I tired updating to 326.80 Geforce drivers and still the same thing. Everything is now up to date as far as I've checked. Microsoft, Mobo, CPU, GPU updates are all at there latest and it still won't work. So apparently the game simply refuses to work on my PC. I've been googling tons of different 'fixes' and none of them have worked. I've checked my firewall setting, internet settings, gpu settings, ect.. Launch the game and within 3-5 mins the game closes and I get the message that the Evolution engine has stopped working. It used to work for me back in may/june even with the occasional error or crash. But now I can't play period. Edit: Well I've submitted a ticket to support, hopefully they can help, if not I guess its just going to be a game of patience. Demonoid
Well nothing has happened yet, still crashing.. Updated to Nvidia's 327.23 drivers and it still crashes. No driver updates available for any of my other hardware as there all at there latest drivers already. Tried uninstalling both Warframe and Steam and I'm still getting the same 'Evolution Engine has Stopped working' though now the Microsoft error reporter is popping up every so often. No response from support yet, been about 3 days now so hopefully soon. All in all I've tried just about everything I can think of or that I've found via the internet, and nothing has worked. Man I'd love to play the game again but I guess I'm SOL until it gets fixed via a patch. I'm out of idea's on trying to fix it myself.
BenYeeHua
So, did you try without overclock? As I found out some game that using PhysX 3 like Planetside 2 and this game will using AVX for CPU, it will heavy overload their CPU and causing crash. Demonoid
Haven't tried that yet, but I don't see why that would be causing a fuss now. I used to be able to play this game without incident in the past on my current rig. (April to May I believe, sometime during spring time) As for Planetside 2 I can play it with no problems at all. It kinda baffles me as to why its not working now. Aside from updating my hardware drivers, my PC is running the same clock speed on both my CPU and GPU as in the past when the game worked fine and dandy. My GPU is running stock speeds, as is my RAM, and my CPU is running at 4.5 GHz and maintains low temps even in games like Planetside 2. I guess I could try it and see if it works. But if that turns out to be the issue I'd be surprised, and disappointed. I've never had my overclock interfere with any of my games before. Edit: So I tried it with my CPU running stock speeds! :D And it crashed and burned yet again, no change at all. whoopty doo, back to the drawing board I suppose. Sigh, I had hoped to just jump back on Warframe buuut nuuu, it has to be this way. It always has to be the one game I'm interested in at the time that has the worst of problems.. Life is cruel, I want a magical 'fix it' button. >_> Oh well guess all I can do now is storm around the house and bang on things like an impudent barbarian until support replies back. Morcant
You may be able to find a clue as to what is leading to the Evolution Engine crash in the EE.log file, located at %appdata%\Warframe (just type that into the run dialog and it will open in a window). Prior to the usual crash dump / unloading routines at the end of the file, there may be a line or two tagged with [Error] that explains what the fault is. It can be difficult to interpret, but if you find anything suspect, maybe we can decipher it for you.
Demonoid
Already tried looking there a few times and there's several errors listed. Most of them being cannot localize [insert file name]. Most of the errors seem to consist of client files. I think I'm gonna try uninstalling as well as removing any other files on my PC associated with Warframe, re-install and try again.. Last time I just uninstalled and re-installed, this time I'll go the whole nine yards and purge everything associated with it. If that doesn't fix it, well then I really am SOL.. Edit: Well that didn't work.. Edit: I'm attempting to brainstorm for idea's but I've tried just about everything I can think of. I want to play so bad but it just won't work. Grrr why me.. Demonoid
Well I've tried just about everything in the 'Diagnosing System Crashes' topic and nothing has fixed my issue. None of the diagnosis Tools suggested, or that I have available via software showed any signs of corruption or system failures, and everything on my PC is running optimally. I even went to the extent to download/install Planetside 2 again and see if there were any problems, and there were none. So as of now I have no clue why Warframe just refuses to work. Everything is up to date with latest stable drivers and such. There's no faulty hardware or corrupt system file's. So at the moment I'm back to square one, and all I know is after I launch the game is within about 4-5 mins it will close and give me a windows message saying 'The Evolution Engine has stopped working'. I never had a problem with running Warframe in the past (April-May), but ever since I've re-installed and tried to play again (Sep 16th) its simply will not work for me. The launcher works fine, I can log in, I can use all them menu's in game or join a mission, but 4-5 minutes after I click play and launch the game it closes with the error message. It doesn't matter what I do in game I can even leave it at the log in screen and it will crash. I've been googling for fixes all week, and tried a multitude of them all to end with the same result I started with. Not a single 'fix' has given me a positive or a negative result, just the same thing over and over. Still waiting for a response from support, its been 4 days and nothing yet.. not even so much as an automated response. Things are starting to look pretty grim. DAttila
Just replying to say you're not alone. It's happening to many others, I'm getting games where people are just randomly disconnecting. And I wonder when it's inevitable my turn.I used to love this game, but now I might be forced to quit because I just can't play with the feeling of crashing not being a possibility, but an eventuality and losing an ever-growing bunch of stuff to it. I just can't deal with it any more.I swear, it's almost like the Stalker coming for you, only you can't fight back, you can't run, you just simply get destroyed at the time when you have the most to lose. Demonoid
I hope they get a fix up for this soon as I've tried everything in my power to get it to work and its all been in vain. I don't now how long it normally takes their support team to respond but I haven't heard anything yet. I can't get my mind off of Warframe, I try to entertain myself with other games or busy myself with chores but I haven't been able to shake this feeling of boredom for days now. On the up side my house is spotless and well organized hehe.. I'm running out of things to do, and I can't even focus on my other games. I sure hope support responds soon or they roll out some new fixes. Come on DE I need a miracle here, I'm dying to play your game again!

TechnoFoxx
Same thing is happening to me. 5th time today I've crashed while in a mission out of random. Never had this issue before the most recent update. Sometimes my screen would hang up, but only for a few seconds. Now it will crash the game and open the crash report wizard : /I -think- it may be a problem with the multi-threading option, so I'll try turning that off and see what happens. DAttila
It was crashing for me regardless of any settings or anything I've tried, just like Demonoid. I managed to contact Support on this and submitted my log files to them, haven't heard of them since. My guess is the reason they're not replying is because they have all available staff diligently working on isolating the cause of this, seemingly completely random and fatal bug. Edit: I just heard back from the DE Support guy, he mentioned that all the things reported here and in other threads should be solved in the upcoming hotfix patch. psyanide
Which upcoming hotfix would that be? Today's? 10.1.1? Because I see nothing in the notes referring to this issue. I mean, maybe they 'forgot' to add in all the details about the work done... again. *sigh* I will try it out again when I get home from work, but after more than 2 months of this, it wouldn't necessarily be cynical of me to expect no change. You are in a worse situation than I, however, as for me this S#&$e only occurs if I try and run the game in 64-bit mode.
Demonoid
Well I finally got a response from support asking if the recent hot-fix fixed my issues, which it didn't. So I sent them some more recent logs and an up to date Dxdiag. I just hope its enough for them to figure out the problem.. Still can't do anything other than twiddle my thumbs and wait. psyanide
Yip, confirmed - same exact issue exists for me, as before. 64-bit just dies at a given time. Sending in logs etc. in a support ticket again tonight. Stay strong, bud!
Demonoid
So of those here getting the crash 'Evolution Engine has stopped working' maybe we have something in common? I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium, EVGA GTX 660ti FTW 3GB, Intel i7 3770k @ 4.5Ghz, 16GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM, 128GB Samsung 840 Pro SSD (Boot drive & used for games) Other Software I usually have running in the background include Iobit Advanced System Care 6 Pro, Steam, Azio Keyboard Software, Logitech Profiler, and Cyborg R.A.T7 Mouse software. I'm also using a modified Windows 7 Theme/sounds, but I did try disabling it and restoring the patched files and that didn't do jack poo. (kinda doubted that was the issue but I had to try everything I could think of just to make sure) Dunno if this helps but heck I figure I might as well throw it out there, who knows..
DAttila
If 64-bit mode is the issue, I'll do a test run of it tomorrow without it. Also, if a fix this major isn't in the hotfix, that would be strange. Just check the hotfix patch notes often. Demonoid, I think we concluded that it has nothing to do with the hardware config of the PCs, nor the way our drivers are updated. Something in that 6MB hotfix that went in between update 9 and 10 that was meant to stop some people from crashing did something that caused the game to die completely randomly if ran in 64-bit mode. If the 64-bit mode is, indeed, the only mode this happens on, at least we have a lead. I'll edit this post with my findings later. EDIT: Playing in 32-bit or 64-bit mode does no difference other than lower your frame rate. Doesn't save you from the crashmonster. Demonoid
I've tried 32bit & 64bit mode and it made no difference for me. Dunno what the cause is but its like a curse, once ya have it, it won't go away.
