The lighting darkens when you try to change colors of any of the operator color channels, then slowly brightens up over time or stays dimmed if you don't exit color selection screen. Before clicking color selection: As soon as you try to change any color: All settings off apart from Adaptive Exposure/HDR/Volumetric Lighting.
