Cut fish parts vanishing from inventory, fish wasted

Under advice from another user to cut fish one at a time to work around the RNG fish part mechanic, I cut my rare fish one at a time to guarantee parts I needed. I did not leave the Necralisk or exit dialogue with Daughter between fish cuttings. I cut multiple cave-fish for three spinal cords, two bionic filters, and five waxen deposits. With each separate cut the UI told me that I received one cord / sensor / bulb. When I returned to the Orbiter, I found that out of all of the fish I cut for Daughter for parts, I only received one spinal cord part despite the UI informing me that I would have at least three + other parts from other fish. The fish I cut are gone regardless, and I have nothing to show for my time.

ETA: since logging back in, I am still missing 2/3 of my spinal cords, but my inventory now shows I have the biotic filters and waxen deposits that I cut from my fish.
