Can't use necromech abilities

I'm running the Heart of Deimos misson and I'm at the part where we first use the necromech. When I tried running the misson the first two times, I couldn't bring up the ability select UI. I could still use the first ability by double pressing the button, but not any other abilities even if I pressed the sides of the game pad. When I tried running the misson a third time, I couldn't even use my first necromech ability. It stays this way no matter how far in the misson I got.
