[Warframe Concept] Janus - The Combat Specialist (Truly Unique Playstyle)

Part two of my series of concepts inspired by Dissidia/FF.

(Quick note: These concepts are inspired by FF, but don't let that throw you off.

I haven't just taken carbon copys of skills in FF games, and chucked them on WF concepts.

These concepts are unique, and would be totally viable, without lawsuit :P )

 

Ok.

This Warframe is inspired by Cecil Harvey from FF IV / Dissidia / Dissidia 012.

His fighting style is described as a "Split Soul".

Cecil is both a Dark Knight and a Paladin. Light and Dark.

This is meant to symbolise the conflict he has within himself, and to show the opposite fighting styles.

Cecil can freely switch between these jobs, giving him huge versatility in combat.

 

My Jecht concept was really long (something like 2000 words). I'll try to cut this one down a bit, but, because I'm trying to post concepts that give truly unique playstyles. So, it's hard to keep it at a low word count.

 

Let's begin.

 

Stats and Information

Name - Janus

Gender - Male

Description - Janus is an extremely unique Warframe. Rather than having one set of powers. He has two, which he can freely switch between to suit his current situations.

This gives him added versatility in combat.

 

First set of stats. (I'll get to this in the next section)

 

Health - 150. 450 at rank 30

Armour - 50.

Shields - 150. 450 at rank 30

Energy - 150. 225 at rank 30

Sprint speed - 1.0

 

Second set of stats. (I'll get to this in the next section)

 

Health - 100. 275 at rank 30

Armour - 50.

Shields - 100. 275 at rank 30

Energy - 150. 225 at rank 30

Sprint speed - 1.2

 

Basic Concept

Alrighty.

 

This may seem very complicated, but it's actually fairly simple.

2 sets of stats, and 2 sets of powers.

 

Each set has an extremely different playstyle.

 

Let's just call them playstyles 1 and 2.

You spawn in the map as 1.

 

The fact that you have more powers is (hopefully) balanced by the fact that you have no ult.

Instead, you have more utility and diversity.

 

When you switch styles. Your stats would instantly change.

So, if you're in style 2 with 100% HP, and you switch to style 1, you would also have 100% HP. Basically an instant stat boost.

 

But, the same goes the other way. If you switch to 2 from 1, you lose stats instantly.

 

I know this probably sounds confusing. I'll try refine it.

 

Playstyle 1

Has higher health, shields and armour. But, has a lower running speed.

Its powers are primarily close range. This style deals very heavy damage from close quarters.

 

Playstyle 2

Has lower stats. But has a higher running speed.

 

This playstyle is primarily ranged combat. Lower damage, but has additional effects. Such as healing, DoT, and stuns.

Now. The idea is that instead of an ult, you press 4 to switch over to the other style.

This would open up some awesome opportunities to play completely different to the current Warframes.

 

Rush in, use Impulse Lance and Blindside to deal massive damage.

Run off, press 4, use Radiant Orb a few times to heal you, and use the higher run speed to make your escape.

 

Obviously that's extremely basic. But, there are so many opportunities that this Warframe would introduce.

 

 

Abilities

Power 1

Impulse Lance

Power Cost - 25

 

Janus launches a spear at the target foe.

The animation would be similar to Dissidia.

 

The spear forms in the Warframe's hand. He does a 360 degree turn to build up momentum, then launches the lance at his target with astonishing force.

 

Deals heavy damage. Impact zone has a small AoE.

Spear disappears after x metres. Will also send any targeted enemies flying backwards.

If you haven't played Dissidia. I recommend watching it several times to get a good look at how awesome it looks.

Impulse Lance deals 200/400/600/800 damage.

 

Power 2

Blindside

Power cost - 35

 

Blindside is a very quick uppercut slash. Deals high damage, but has a short range.

Has a small AoE, and covers a 180 degree angle. From right infront of you, to right behind your back (vertically. Not horizontally. So, the AoE goes from infront, over your head, to your back. Does not hit anything next to you.

Will also send affected enemies flying.

 

Blindside is at 3:15 of this video.

Again, I recommend watching it several times to get the general idea.

Blindside deals 300/600/900/1200 damage to enemies in the 180 degree AoE

 

Power 3

Shatter

Power cost - 75

 

Shatter is a highly damaging 360 degree AoE skill.

Janus conjures a lance in his hand (the same one used for power 1) and stabs it into the ground. This creates a large pillar of energy.

This deals very high damage to nearby enemies. Again, it sense nearby enemies flying.

Shatter deals 300/600/900/1200 damage to all enemies in a 360 degree AoE.

 

Power 4

Diversify

Power cost - 100

 

Switch to your other set of powers.

Additional effect: Invulnerability for 2 seconds.

 

Power 1

Radiant Orb

Energy cost - 25

 

Form an orb of energy in your hand and lob it at the target.

Deals medium damage.

Additional effect: Heal you for a % of maximum health.

 

Radiant Orb deals 125/250/375/500 damage.

Radiant Orb heals you for 1/2/3/5 percent of your max health.

 

Power 2

Radiant Fusillade

Power cost - 50

 

Conjure several energy lances in front of you. Send them out flying all at the same time in a cone in front of you. (approx 120 degrees)

Each spear deals moderate damage.

 

Radiant Fusillade deals 200/400/600/800 damage per lance.

Additional effect: Damage over time. (bleeding)

 

Summon 5/6/7/8 lances.

 

Power 3

Energy Downpour

Energy cost - 75

 

Summon all your strength to conjure dozens of orbs around you. In a blast, send these flying in all directions. These rain down in a huge AoE.

On their own, they aren't that special. In numbers, they are devastating. Not in raw damage, but in the additional effects they can apply.

 

Each 'orb' will deal light damage, and add an additional effect. These effects will stack. (random or pre-determined. Whichever)

 

Summon 10/20/30/40 orbs per cast.

Each orb will deal 20/40/60/80 damage.

 

Each orb will also add an additional effect.

Bleed (DoT)

Stun

Slow

Accuracy debuff

Damage debuff

Ragdoll

 

These would apply randomly, and will stack.

 

Power 4

Diversify

Energy cost - 100

 

Switch to your other set of powers.

Additional effect: Invisibility for 2 seconds.

 

Other Notes

I was thinking that this Warframe would have 2 colour settings.

When you switch styles, you would change colours. This would serve the purpose of giving you some kind of visual indication of which style you are using. Would also be a very cool feature to have.

So, how would equipping 8 powers work??

Well, the idea is that if you equip one, you equip 2.

 

Meaning, if you equip his 1, 3 and 4.

Then, in both styles, you will only have powers 1, 3 and 4.

 

If you want to switch between his styles, you need to equip power 4.

Honestly, I know this has a 0.0001% chance of making it into the game.

I just have fun thinking up these pipe dreams.

 

I really wish every Warframe had unique playstyles like this. But, we're so far into development, that I find it seriously doubtful that it'll ever happen. :(

 

Ah well. One can only dream.

Not sure DE would consider a warfame that's basically a copy of a character from another game, inspiration from other games is different from xeroxing a character.

The concept isn't a carbon copy of Cecil. Not even close.

The skills, while borrowed from Dissidia, are purely there for inspiration.

Plus, it's not like FF invented spear throwing, uppercuts or energy blasts.

 

The 4 skills from his ranged section are all my own thinking.

 

I mean, sure, there's some definite similarities, but he's definitely not an exact copy like you imply.

Ah, sorry haven't played those games so I can't say exactly how similar your ideas were, if they're inspired by but not an outright copy disregard my previous post.

Ah right.

That's completely my fault, I should've cleared that up a bit better.

mostly in part because I love cecil (and final fantasy dark knights for that matter)
