How Does Attack Speed Work?

On the Warframe wiki a hammer will have for example 1 atk/sec and they say its really slow, yet on a sword it'll have 0.9 atk/sec and they say its very fast. Why is that?

The attack speed numbers of melee weapons are completely broken. You cannot compare 0.9 attack speed of a sword to a 0.9 attack speed of a hammer, for example. The sword will be at least 2 times as fast as the hammer.

Thats because not the stats count, the feel of it count. Hammers feel soo very slow.

To TRULY measure attack speed. You need to do the following.

 

Enter a mission, sprint and press the slide button, then perform a slide-attack. If you traveled a great distance very quickly, that weapon has a good melee speed and it is all you will ever need.

There's attack/second ratings and then differences due to weapon classes. Heavy weapons have their own class, as do swords, dual weapons, daggers, dual daggers and so on.

The attack speed listed is not attacks per second. It is attack speed relative to a standard for that weapon class. 

 

So, for example, you cannot compare an axe to a sword. They have different standards for their class. However, you can compare two swords against one another; the attack speed number indicates how well they do against the same standard, and are thus comparable.
