Have The Tenno Lost Their Way?

They have, actually...

One theory I have is that back in the Orokin era, the Tenno weren't completely free willed and probably were controlled in a manner similar to how the neural sentry controls the corrupted.

Along with the theory, the reasoning behind the Tenno cutting down the Orokin at one time might be that one or several of them broke from the control and moved to undo the control while keeping appearances. Then, they decided to take down the Orokin as maybe the control extended to all of humanity and the 'Golden Age' was just an implanted thought to keep people in line.

Think like the setting of the Matrix, except that instead of having people plugged up into machines and experiencing a simulation of reality, they are in reality but are subconsciously and subjectively always told that everything is fine, even if it truly isn't. It might also mean that the Stalker is one of the low guard which was indoctrinated much more deeply and having the kind of control removed broke his mind beyond reasoning.

There's two hints of that being possible :

1) The prime variant of Warframes looks very much like Corrupted enemies (white, gold, etc.), meaning they were definitively Orokin in design.

2) The corrupted enemies themselves and the Lotus' comment that they are controlled by an ancient Neural Sentry means that it might be Orokin machinery which went haywire. In trying to keep control, they do so by indiscriminately taking control of anyone intruding.

So considering that maybe the Tenno truly weren't united in anything other than their rebellion and training (since they might have been forced to comply through a form of indotrination), it's not far-fetched to think that they now are trying to find an identity for themselves and a purpose... and since everyone has a different opinion of what would be best... well you have inter-clan conflicts due to opposing ideologies.

Hell, even in a meta way, it works : don't like the tax rates? You fight against their rail to impose yours. Like it? You fight to defend those in place. Even more so, the way and reasoning behind certain clans means of recruitment, how some prefer to side with Grineers out of warrior's pride while others side with the Corpus for the money. The Tenno of today are a defining variable in a conflict between three constants.

I feel sorry for this games devs...

they've chosen this willingly. don't disrespect their resolve by pitying them. be amazed by the amount of blood and sweat they put into the game, even after getting yelled at from all sides.

i just had a nice talk with a cow breeder. he pointed some things out which should be obvious:

- we can change the color and pattern of our warframes, weapons and sentinels at will. so there is only one reason why that system shouldn't apply to kubrows too: the technology to change the color of a material requires "paint" which is toxic to biological organisms. (only a tenno with a death wish would change the color of his warframe while wearing it. or tenno aren't biological. or we are missing the animation where we unsuit. argh, off thread rambling.)

- kubrows are warbeasts, trained to attack and kill. so the holder needs a fail safe to at least disable their kubrow. attack dogs for example, usually wear an electrifiable collar which can be triggered by remote control.

- since kubrows have zero chance to survive in the wild and have to depend on their holders to keep them alive (genetic destabilization), they classify to 100% as domesticated pets. so their actions as well as their lifes and deaths are the responsibility of their holder. which means we should have the choice to work them to death, dump them, kill them swiftly, give them an overdose of sedatives, play with them all day long, or do whatever we want.
