Fading (Fanfic)

I am death, I am nothing.

I stalk the night and slay those who would oppose me.

I am Loki!

I work alone, I don't need allies. I fight and win, I fight and kill.

I fade into the shadows and leave with nothing visible save the glint from my blade.

He notices. Gazes, quizzically.

What is this, he wonders.

A faint shimmer in the air, like light glinting off metal.

He dies with this thought, his eyes unconsciously following my sword.

I am victorious.

I reappear, heady with power, and dash again forward.

I stumble. Odd, I am usually better than this.

My foot landed wrong, nothing more. I thought I saw something wrong, but... Nothing.

It's all fine.

...

Another patrol.

Fading again.

Dove forward, spinning and slicing between them all.

Three bodies drop as six pieces into the ground.

I smile, reappea-

I don't reappear.

...

I-

I reappear!

I calm myself. It was nothing. A minor error.

I move ahead, taking a moment to collect myself and gather all the energy I can.

Hyena lies in wait ahead.

I fade.

I charge in, a silent death on the wind.

I stab and slash his servos and gears, I cut him to shreds.

I fade again when I feel myself reappearing.

I cut and maim, eviscerate the fearful quad.

I fade again.

Chop thrust and slice, almost dead now.

I fade.

Step forward and charge an attack, slicing clean through the control module and-

Falling.

I fall on my right knee, the leg beneath it visible to none.

Not even me.

I reappear.

I said I reappear!

I will reappear!

I WILL DO IT!

...

I am invisible.

I pick myself up. My leg is visible to myself, at least.

Faintly.

I retrieve the modules this Hyena had.

I try to reappear.

I walk past the crewmen unseen.

I walk further, trying all the while to be seen, to be shot at, to be killed or hurt or something!

I am not.

I arrive at my shuttle with no one the wiser, stepping forward into its metal embrace.

...

It does not leave.

I fall again, both legs faded to oblivion.

I claw myself up the wall, legs barely visible as I shakily regain my feet.

I calm myself.

...

I throw myself at the shuttle, desperately hoping it will take me from this nightmare.

I find myself through the shuttle, in space.

I am only faintly visible even to myself.

I am drifting away slowly, watching my only hope lay silent against the wall of the vessel.

I am alone.

I am fading.

I am faded.
