Xianyu Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Basically a sniper rifle for the sophisticated tenno. No magazine - single shot. Requires a small charge-up before firing, say, 2-3 seconds. Increasing 'fire rate' decreases the charge time. base damage of like, 50, and top charged damage of 125. Railgun would be capable of firing through objects/enemies to a certain extent when fully charged. This would also cause the railgun to ignore armor. When un-charged, the slug doesn't have enough power to penetrate armor or pierce. But the Tenno has to be scoped in to charge the weapon. This is for several reasons: Having a weapon require charge up relegates the sniper rifle to the sniper ROLE. I've seen people running around with the Snipetron and treating it like a really powerful assault rifle. With a 'scope in to fire' system, the player would have to stand still to fire, basically. 'quick scoping' wouldn't be possible because of the charge-up system. Because of the high damage of the rifle at top charge, and ignoring armor, it would be a 'support' weapon, used to fire at bosses from a safe distance while other tenno distract it, underlining a teamwork aspect. As for solo play, I honestly don't know. Plan ahead, or something. And don't fight no infested. We've already seen the MOA use railguns (and they HURT), so give us some of that tasty futuristic tech!
Panzermeido Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 (edited) You're giving it too many downsides, man. It's basically a powered-down Paris with hitscan and a scope. Give it more love, along the lines of 200 basic (charged?) and/or additional damage against shields. Edited April 22, 2013 by Panzermeido
Xianyu Posted April 22, 2013 Author Posted April 22, 2013 You're giving it too many downsides, man. It's basically a powered-down Paris with hitscan and a scope. Give it more love, along the lines of 200 basic (charged?) and/or additional damage against shields. The Snipetron already does 100 damage a shot. That's as high as any weapon in the game. The Paris does 100 damage at full charge according to the wiki. And weapon damage is exponential. If there weren't a ton of downsides what be the point of using the snipetron? See, if you make a weapon like a railgun TOO powerful, then everyone will gravitate towards it as the 'best' weapon for pure DPS. A sniper rifle on the scope of a railgun should be used for taking down mini-bosses and bosses. And require a teammate to help keep smaller enemies off you or distract the enemies.
