DecapitatingJim
So, moving on from the slightly misleading title. I'm currently customizing my Windows 8.1, but I've become stuck on something with no idea of how to change it. What I want to do is change the colour of the little blue box that outlines things when you hover over or click on them. http://puu.sh/eAYM3/819eee35d5.jpg As well as the blue highlight in the right click menus http://puu.sh/eAYOl/6e6e0e5d03.png I would like the change them to green. I'm guessing this would be done in Regedit, but I cannot for the life of me figure out what thing to modify. Anyone have any ideas?
KarmaOrantu
Unfortunately I believe they removed the availability of changing these mate, I actually think the ONLY way to change it is to load an alternate theme from the internet that changes the colour. Changing theme colours should help change that too, I mean you could mess around with the hue and saturation of your monitor or of Windows 8.1 colour settings but I really wouldn't advise it, as it would mess with colours on games if you did it with your monitor and basic colours all over Windows if you did it the other way. EDIT: http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/best-windows-8-1-themes/ Gives some good themes, but again, I'm not entirely sure it's possible in Windows 8.1 Edited January 16, 2015 by KarmaOrantu
Letter13
Edit: Nevermind, looks like it was removed in Windows 8. Edit 2: Found something that *may* work, but take caution, editing your registry values can be dangerous! - In the registry you will see a tree structure on the left pane - in it, browse for Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Colors and click it once. - On the right pane, look for the value of HotTrackingColor. It is given in three values representing the ratios of red, green and blue that range from 0 to 255. Enter values that mix to the color you want to have (you can check the color values in a graphic editor). - Do the same for he value of Hilight. DecapitatingJim
See my second edit above Ah thanks. That was just for changing the drag bar and some other things. The 2 things I'm looking for appear to be separate things. Here's what it looks like so far anyway, please ignore all the crap on my desktop Edited January 16, 2015 by DecapitatingJim

The highlight value doesn't affect the color of the highlight of selected items?

Letter13
The "Hilight" key seems to affect highlighted menu items, but not icons. It seems that Aero theme does not support icon highlight color, and that to get a custom icon highlight color you need to have your theme set to the basic one. Ah you mean those ugly high contrast themes? If I'd have to use those to get the outlines changed I'd rather not, those things are hideous. Thanks for your help though. I'll just stick with what I have atm, it still looks pretteh. Edited January 16, 2015 by DecapitatingJim
