Spin Attack With An Axe Is Very Ineffective

Compare these 2 images showing the spin attack with Scindo prime and Galatine correspondingly

 

Both are long, heavy weapons, but effective area of the sword is thrice as large compared to the axe. The handle can't just pass through bodies, why does it? In the natural environment it would catch the body and the Coriolis' force would drag it towards the blade where it would still receive some damage due to impaling onto the edge of the axe blade, or even greater damage as the blade wouldn't just cut the body, but tear through it if the force was enough.

Their total damage differs only by 5 points, their crit damage multipliers are equal, Scindo prime has greater crit chance, Galatine has greater status chance, Galatine is faster, so there is no huge gap between them. But doing spin attack with scindo I miss 90% of the time.
