Yeselectro
Is X7CrNiAl 17-7 able to bend (with heat of course)? Or more spesific question; Can a wall be made from X7CrNiAl 17-7 ? For my school project i need a material that is slightly magnetic. My point is to secure an area that should not be affected by magnets, so i decided to take X7CrNiAl 17-7 (i've read that it is slightly magnetic) and make it a wall layer to protect the area. Would that work?
Xirka
Well, all X7CrNiAl 17-7 is, is a particular grade of stainless steel. So, to answer your questions, it takes a lot of heat to make it malleable, and while a wall could be made out of it or would not really protect an area from magnets. You might want to try a nickel alloy or a carbon fiber shell filled with some sort of water based gel. Commander_Pancakes
A wall can be made from anything really. Magnetic materials are no exceptions. However, you don't even need such materials to expel magnetic fields. A simple box, or can, made by ferrous metals or mu-metals will "trap" the magnetic field inside the metal itself, effectively protecting anything put in it from magnetic fields. Such is the way many pieces of electronic equipment are protected.
