Exclusive Mod Slots

The idea is to have additional "special slots" for certain mod types that only mods of that type can be placed in. There have been discussions about having special slots for augments, and even about eliminating the "must-have" mods altogether. This idea should attack the source.

The source of these issues is that all mods are in competition with one another for the same mod slots. It's not that the underused mods are bad conceptually, it's just that at some point they are better off in separate categories from the extremely popular ones.

You already have this concept in the form of auras and stances. Aura/stance mods have that symbol on the top of their image indicating that they are exclusive to the aura/stance slot. Something similar could be done to create other categories of mods and mod slots. (Once upon a time, polarities might have handled this, but formae make it impossible.)

For Warframes:

- 2 additional mod slots for ability augment mods

- 2 additional mod slots for movement, resistance, bleedout, stamina and detection mods

For Melee Weapons:

- 2 additional mod slots for channeling, finishers, blocking and syndicate mods

For Primary/Secondary Weapons:

- 2 additional mods slots for pretty much anything except damage

These changes ought to be accompanied by the addition of new mods to make the choices even more interesting.

I would love to be able to "fix" weapons that come with a serious handicap (like a loooong reload time or unsustainable ammo consumption or just a zoom that could be better) but not have to give up something important (like the ability to actually kill things) to do so.

As it stands I have a number of weapons that are just inherently better than others just because they don't need those "fix" mods. For example my Tiberon feels like a superior weapon compared to my Sybaris because despite having 1 more forma than the Tiberon, the Sybaris requires a reload mod just to be almost as good (it's hard to try to compensate for the small mag because % bonuses don't do much for it's small ammo pool, so I just boost the reload speed).

DE only removed 2 slots from warframe's and removed two = polarities and left those two slots intact. Also, why adding "agument" slots are requested and why we shouldn't be given said slots are noe and the same.

Maybe...

Certainly not in the way you suggest it though(it's a band aid, not a solution).

Wouldn't really trust DE to get this kind of thing right anyway.

The concept of polarities was originally intended to attack this same issue: that people have too little incentive to use most mods. Formae pretty much negate any value that polarities can serve now, however.

If we simply had more slots, then all mods of all types would still be in competition with one another. Some mods simply should be in competition with one another for a slot, for example, Vitality should not be in competition with Maglev.

In this situation, creating more exclusive mod slots will increase the number of choices players can make.

This idea is quite solid, hence the fact that some builds work, then a good augment comes and you can't use it.

Adding an additional slot or two for augments could work (including the fact that you need to Forma a few slots to be able to use those augments).

"Forcing" options on players is a bandaid and won´t fix the core Problem.

You can say that this is "forcing" options on people, but then separating weapon mods, warframe mods and sentinel mods into their own exclusing slots is the exact same kind of forcing.

Sometimes, creating categories is a very elegant way of fostering diversity. There's an optimum of course, and that's what the discussion is for.

1. Separating weapon mods, warframe mods and sentinel mods into their own exclusing slots is not the same thing, because a serration mod in my Warframe makes no sense.

2. Discussions have to bear the fact that people disagree.
