Field Changing Abilities

We've all seen how Oberon lays down a carpet of "fire" using the ability hollowed ground. This ability could be very useful into end game as it does give a buff to players and debuffs the enemy. The only problem is that it doesn't affect a wide enough area. What if instead of an instant carpet, it expanded in all directions changing the field of play? Then what if other frames had this field changing ability? It could provide utility to abilities (to help scale better to end game) in the form of buffs and debuffs.

Examples:

Shadows of the dead will not only spawn previously killed enemies but lay down a field which affects both player and enemy. Enemies killed on the field will turn into a allied shadows. Meanwhile player's that fall on the field will be revied but at half the speed? or revied with only half health.

Avalanche would create a frozen wonder death-zone arfter it's attack phase. The field would slow and cause freeze damage to enemies while player's would recieve an armour buff but the player has no-grip or their shields could be halved.

It can be stopped if the room has multiple levels

Ability augments seem to be the direction for any of these kinds of ideas.  I really don't like negative tradeoffs on abilities though.

Oberons carpet could use a change, maybe a circle from his location.  At the very least extend a certain distance in each direction (from and back).  Laying it down in a forward line limits its usefulness.
