Ordis, Simaris, and Flight of the Navigator

In 1986 the comic science fiction movie, Flight of the Navigator (FotN) debut.

Rotten Tomatoes rated it a fresh rating of 81% based on 26 reviews with the consensus: "Bolstered by impressive special effects and a charming performance from its young star, Flight of the Navigator holds up as a solidly entertaining bit of family-friendly sci-fi." -Wikipedia.org

If you haven't seen it, the full movie is on youtube.

I was about 5 when it came out, and it was a seminal moment. One can just take a look at Ordis and Simaris and see parallels. DE's has made Warframe like a mixtape of love for all the developers childhood favorites. Anime, action movies, video games, and books, comics books, and more. Now, naturally, every creation is a product of the makers influences, but I would say that Warframe is a little more transparent about its forebears. Pastiches, honoring these powerful cultural foundations, and placing a more modern display of art, one that has not yet been given the kind of recognition that classics, and postmodern art has garnered.

Ordis

The players onboard ship Cephalon named, Ordis, reminds me of the alien space ship in FotN named, Max. Especially, after he unintentionally picks up some of the protagonist child's personalities traits. Ordis's fractured personality can lead to some very comical lines. If you haven't muted him due to the receptive nature of his chime-in's.

Simaris

Max's in your face style is one of the first things I think of when I see Simaris, that first time especially. Simaris, actually shares more visual style with max than Ordis does. Both, of course are artificial intelligences, but aside from those things, both Max and Simaris are interested in collecting and cataloging life.

Again, the point of this isn't to say that DE ripped off anything, just that they have clear nods to many cultural icons, some more obvious than others. If you haven't seen FotN, I highly recommend it, as it is a fun movie. Especially if you have kids.
