Excalibur Not Getting Xp For Mellee Weapons

I recently decided to work my way up the Mastery Rank by leveling the weapons (had tested some and settled with a few, with all Warframes already ranked it was the next logical step). During this process, Excalibur 2.0 launched and became my alternative to the nerfed Gmag.

I did notice however that having 3 unranked weapons equipped with Excalibur, at the end of the matches I would get a decent amount of XP for the primary and secondary weapons but basically only the bonus XP for the mellee weapon. After getting those 3 weapons to Max rank, I investigated further by switching to Mesa and same M.O., 3 unranked weapons equipped and off to level them. Mesa did get a somewhat equally balanced XP distribution among all weapons getting them all at Max Rank fairly close together as opposed to the 10+ levels behind the mellee would have with Excalibur.

It feels weird that the mellee oriented Warframe can't properly level mellee weapons, while the Firearms specialist can.

It's worth mentioning that with Excalibur I'm running with Exalted Blade at all times (disregarding the quick pauses to refill energy) and with Mesa I'm pretty much just using Peacemaker and running around to collect energy orbs. Both "tests" performed at everyone's favorite node: Draco (Ceres).

tl;dr version: Excalibur doesn't get XP for his mellee weapon while using Exalted Blade. Mesa can get XP for all 3 equipped weapons with Peacemaker.

That's because Exalted Blade IS a melee weapon. When you activate Exalted Blade, it replaces your melee weapon. And while its activated the game basically treats your actual melee weapon as being unequipped so you can't even get affinity from other people's kills. Plus any kills you get with Exalted Blade the affinity should go 100% to the frame.

Also any kills Mesa gets from peacemaker goes 100% to the frame not to the weapons. Though if other people get kills Mesa can get affinity to her weapons.

Right, so basically while EB is active it becomes my mellee weapon and the regular one goes to a limbo (no pun intended) where it can't get affinity in any way, unlike Mesa's Regulators that are considered purely Warframe Ability despite being "pictured" as weapons (Level X Regulators) while Peacemaker is active, allowing both primaries and the mellee to get XP\Affinity as usual from other people's kills.

Intentional. Exalted Blade is an ability and you don't get exp for yourself if killing with an ability.

If the Wiki is correct, it goes to your Warframe. If it is already at Max Rank you get virtually nothing (you can't nor should see surplus Affinity), if it is not then it will help with its leveling.

Did I understand it correctly this time? If so, then the case is closed as a bug

Nevertheless I still think EB shouldn't replace the mellee weapon completely (it even inherits their stats) and behave a little more like the Regulators or Ash's hidden blades as an "additional" built-in warframe weapon. But that would be better suited to the feedback section.

Thank you both for the clarification
