Weapons Get No Exp When Using Hydroid's Ult To Kill

I went Argon Crystal farming today with Hydroid and his Pilfering augment. I used his ult to kill enemies for majority of the time to maximize drops.

 

Everything but my melee was maxed, yet it seems my hammer only got exp from the enemies I killed with it specifically - which is a grand total of 2. Even so, I did use Tigris to put down at least a fraction of the enemies as I picked up drops. I should have at least gotten exp from them to count towards leveling my melee, right?

 

Forgive me if I am misinformed, but weren't ability kills supposed to count towards weapon exp but with majority of the exp going towards the warframe? If so, this is a rather annoying bug.

Ability kills grant 100% affinity to warframe. Weapon kills grant 50% to kill weapon and 50% to warframe. Affinity from bros and hoes grant 25% to warframe and 75% distributed among equipped guns. Nothing wrong here.
