Top-Tier Archwings And Archwing Weapons

Valkyr-Umbra

Question

So its been a while since I played archwing, my loadout is currently Imperator Vandal, Centaur, and Elytron. I was gunna sink a few more forma into each, but firts I want to make sure they're popularly considered to be top tier. Are they still top-tier? Are there any other Archwings/Archwing Weapons out there that are competitive with them?

Elytron is low-tier. Go with Itzal or Odonata Prime.

Your weapons tho - mhmm, you got the goods.

Imperator Vandal and Velocitus are the top-tier primaries right now.

But yeah, Itzal is infinitely better than Elytron save for 1 or 2 missions.

Elytron is useful in all archwing missions and with the raid coming up I say invest in all archwings. As far as weapons the fluctus is best for crowds(makes lvling archwings and melee easy.) Veloticus and Grattler take J-3 golem down pretty fast so those are worth the forma. Imperator Vandal is a good all rounder. My order in which to forma things would go:

•Archwing: Itzal,Elytron,Odonata Prime

•Primary: Fluctus,Veloticus,Imperator Vandal,Grattler

•Melee: Centaur....Kaszas for style points but centaur is all you need.

Itzal is generally considered the top tier Archwing, with the others having minor, specialized usage at best, I'd put Elytron before Odonata though.

For guns, Fluctus, Imperator Vandal, and Velocitus are the top ones. The Grattler is decent outside of open space as well. Velocitus is currently bugged however, fire rate is having no effect.

For Melee, Centaur, Knux, and probably Kaszas (haven't tried it, but stats look like top tier material) are at the top. Prisma Veritux is pretty good too.

I remember having fluctus but not being all that impressed by it, I'll have to give it another go (I probably was using it wrong).

Glad to hear centaur is still king, I love that weapon (and already have sunk several forma into it, just need 1 more for a perfect build).

I'm a little surprised to hear that Elytron isn't necessarily a go-to archwing, I forma'd it several times, and remember using multiple thumpers to completely control areas in interception. Did it get nerfed, or is Itzal just really good?

Really there aren't enough archwing to have tiers.

I don't like Odonata at all. The Elyton is a good defender and has good life and shields. Itzal is quick with good looting and stealth.

Weapon wise I prefer the Fluxtus and Centuar.

Elytron is useful in all archwing missions and with the raid coming up I say invest in all archwings. As far as weapons the fluctus is best for crowds(makes lvling archwings and melee easy.) •Melee: Centaur....Kaszas for style points but centaur is all you need.

This guy has a good list

Itzal is top-tier because of, well, all of its abilities. Blink stuns/escapes and is obviously great for mobility; Penumbra is handy when defending a point or reviving; Cosmic Crush kills low-tier enemies, has fantastic synergy with the Grattler, and is great for grabbing pickups; and Fighter Escort is good for auto-killing low-level enemies or as decoys for high-level enemies.

The Elytron is very good for using Thumper against low- and mid-level enemies, especially on defense and interception. In fact, four Elytrons makes defense a cakewalk, even with level 30-ish enemies. They can keep four Thumpers going on each shuttle. Core Vent is also fairly good defensively, I think.

The Odonata Prime's Energy Shell adds 50% heat damage and 200% crit damage to weapons fired through it, but really, most enemies pop very quickly with a properly modded weapon, and the rest of the Odonata's abilities frankly suck. The missiles can barely kill mid-level enemies, flares don't last long enough, and Repulse is a joke. Still, if you maneuver just so, Energy Shell will allow you to "tank" to a certain extent.

Weapons: Imperator Vandal, Velocitus, Grattler for Archguns (some people recommend the Fluctus), and the Centaur is definitely the best Archmelee, although really, melee kills so quickly that any tricked-out melee weapon will do.

Less tiers, more different niches.

Itzal: Low stats, high speed.

#1) Blink - get places fast, remove missile lock-ons.  Questionable now that we have boost, I use it when I'm staying in penumbra, but otherwise boosting with Hyperion thrusters is almost as fast on Itzal (it's that fast) that I can save the energy.

#2) Penumbra - at high levels this is what you're going to be doing all the time, good skill, kinda boring personally.

#3) Cosmic Crush - Greedy Pull for AW. Sets up enemies for you to shoot them with your weapon, Fluctus and Grattler are great for this.

#4) Fighter Escorpahahahaahahaha - Terrible damage, they don't do S#&$ when you are in penumbra (which you will be) and they do some damage whenthey explode.    Your gun does more damage, save your energy.

Number of good skills: 2/3

Strategy: Hide->Crush->Shoot->Crush->Shoot->Crush... etc. Higher waves don't leave hide unless you know nothing is around, you will die. Use blink if you want to stay in penumbra

Elytron: High stats, slow as butt.

#1) My gun hits harder than this.

#2) disrupts bullets and missiles, only displays on host, works ok, I use it periodically.

#3) Thumper - Your only real ability.  Thumpers can stack to 4 per area, inunlimited areas, use maxed System Reroute.  Works great on Defense, Mobile Defense, and Intercept.

#4) My gun hits harder than this.  Damage bypasses terrain, useful on Corpus Sabotage to one shot all reactors, otherwise, save your energy for Thumper.

Number of good skills: 1/2

Strategy: Area Denial, keep those thumpers up, that's it, you're the carry on Wave Intercept to give people EXP, enjoy being Mesa, b----.

Odonata/Prime: Weaker stats than Elytrong (Prime is almost as good) Little slower than Itzal (Prime is almost as good)

#1) My gun hits harde- Wait, this makes my gun hit harder, ok, good skill.

#2) Cheap missile disruption, use it on lock-ons.

#3) My gun hits harder than this.

#4) Radial Disarm Knockback Rhino Stomp. Spammable. Good for recapturing Intercept nodes, breaking lock-ons, and rezzing people, at higher level scaling the disarm function becomes invaluable.

Number of good skills 2/3

Strategy.

.  Point recapture on Intercept.  Kill things with your guns, you're the best at it.

I've noticed a few of these "best Archwing gear" threads and the Fluctus is rarely mentioned, though happily that seems to not be the case in this thread.  I have to say, I have had very good luck with it and it has been amazing running the Interception on Uranus before the update.  I haven't played Archwing since the update yesterday, so I assume nothing has changed though I hear some shielded enemies are a bit of a pain.  About the only downside to the Fluctus I noticed was the small magazine so you have to make your shots count, though you don't really have to be totally accurate.  The upside is it takes down clusters of enemies and even Ogmas like they are nothing.

Euuuh could somebody be so kind as to give an answer please?!?

The thread is full of answers dude.

Archwing is much better balanced than the normal game mode so what people consider "best" is mostly a matter of preference.

Edit: Just dont invest in the AW starter gear as there are better versions of all of them. i.e. Prisma Veritux, Imperator Vandal and Odonata Prime.

Well, depends on the investment. I think with potatoes they are all still strong enough to help you farm up other things. I'm wouldn't forma them, but reactors aren't a bad idea IMO.

All of the Archwings can hold all AW mods except Hyperion Thrusters and Primed Morphic Transfomer with just a reactor, no forma.

Lemme simplify it:

If you prefer in the face fighting style go for itzal or elytron with grattler. Grattler is very devastating if you can get used to its aim and projectile.

Itzal allows you to use blink which stuns enemies and melee or shoot them and again blink out to disengage.

Elytron use thumper and thump around.

Good armor and shields compared to itzal but core vent is for those crafty people.

Long range go for Odonata Prime or Itzal. Odonata prime energy shell provides protection from one side. Good for long range interception.

Itzal easily blink and penumbra and shoot at your hearts content.

Long range weapon recommendations are velocitus for very high damage or fluctus for easy shooting.

Grattler needs a bit of skill but in right hands anything in 350meters are ashes in space.

Hope this summarizes all of it.

I can show my build for itzal no forma but has everything needed for a blink penumbra build.

I agree with all of the above except for the Fluctus as a long range weapon.  The Fluctus' range is limited to 475m which coupled with the travel time of the "rounds", makes it more of a medium to short range weapon.  Comparatively, the Velocitus doesn't seem to be limited to any particular range, so it is a good long range weapon, though it's lack of a scope and the travel time of it's rounds can make long range shots against moving targets very difficult.

does one needs to get archwing weapons in order to do the missions or can normal weapons be used to?

Yes, Archwing weapons are separate from normal weapons.

you get the imperator (rifle) and the veritux (blade) when you build your first archwing (odonata)

the imperator is a decent gun, it can get you to places, at least until you get other arch-guns

I've put a bit more time into archwing since making this post, I've found the advice provided here to be very helpful. Centaur has continued to work very well, and I gave fluctus a shot, it feels better than imperator at close-to-mid range, I feel like Imperator probably outperforms it outside of that (I still have to get velocitus). My elytron has 3 forma, so I've mostly used it (I've had great success with Interception/Defense). My Itzal probably needs some forma before it matches up to the elytron, but in terms of just being fun, I'd say that it feels better than the elytron, and the enhanced movement speed + blink is nice to have. I tried my Odonata again (its got some forma) but personally I don't see a reason to play it over Itzal or Elytron (and my odonata has been forma'd 3 times).  Honestly Odanata's 1 hasn't felt that useful to me, its 4 is nice, but I'd rather have the Elytron's 3 or Itzal's 3.
