Youtube Video Quality

Question

Greetings Tenno!

I'm trying to make some videos with Warframe content, but when I upload media to Youtube, it just look awful.

Worse then other videos, so I'm pretty disapointed and I have no idea what am I doing wrong.

So I want to ask you, fellow Tenno, for help.

I'm new in video creating, so I don't understand to many things, so be patient with me please.

I am using Shadowplay (nvidia) and I'm recording in High quality (60fps, 50Mbit/s)

Raw media looks like ingame.

For editing I choose Sony Vegas 13 Pro.

Media after rendering are crystal clear, sharp and everything I like.

But this is after uploading...

Short footage.

There are options on youtube to change some color options. They are useful and you can kinda get the footage back to normal.

I've only uploaded 1 vid, using the stock stuff we have on PS4 to do so.

go to your page on youtube

click the video you are trying to edit

and there are boxes under the vid; one allows you to make these changes.

Youtube re-encodes the video file after you upload.

IIRC, 1080p30 was around 20Mb/s. So even if you uploaded a 500Mb/s, youtube will downgrade the video file.

If you want high quality video, render your 1080p video in 4k - It doesn't matter that the source isn't 4K, you just want to trick youtube - Upload the 4K video file and youtube will assign it a greater bitrate.

Now your 1080p60 video (watched at 4K) will resemble closer the 1080p60 video you would normally render.

However, this does require faster download speeds for the viewer, and increases upload file sizes.... If that is unacceptable then all i got is that youtube has it's own bitrate, and it isn't too great compared to the uploaded original.

EDIT:

Change your resolution when outputting the file:

   Video #2
      ID : 2
      Format : AVC
      Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec
      Format profile : High@L4.2
      Format settings, CABAC : Yes
Format settings, ReFrames : 3 frames
      Codec ID : avc1
Codec ID/Info : Advanced Video Coding
      Duration : 28s 50ms
      Bit rate mode : Variable
      Bit rate : 47.2 Mbps
Maximum bit rate : 50.0 Mbps
      Width : 3840 pixels
      Height : 2160 pixels
      Display aspect ratio : 16:9
      Frame rate mode : Constant
      Frame rate : 60.000 fps
      Standard : NTSC
      Color space : YUV
      Chroma subsampling : 4:2:0

The other settings can be left alone, Youtube will only care about the dimensions, and set the quality based on that.

Secondly, you can also do the same with Shadow play. If you set Shadowplay to 4K, you can bump up the bitrate to 130Mb/s, instead of the 50Mb/s for 1080p.

Generally, you wont necessarily notice it too much, ithe better quality will manifest mostly with fast moving scenes, and long gradient colours (think a pinkish-orange sunset).

Thanks for answers, but this is not about colors.

It's about quality of the video.

Edit:

And I am not sure if 4k is a solution... Saw 1080p videos with better quality, this is what I need. I have pretty slow internet and uploading is pain already :D

This is due to the bitrate. If you want better quality, you need youtube to assign a greater bitrate than whatever it assigns to 1080p60.

You can even test this yourself through Sony Vegas:

Render two files, set one to 50Mb/s, and the other to 20Mb/s. The second one[20Mb/s] will resemble the youtube video more than the first.

You don't need to capture 4K video. Just render your 1080p video at 4K (see my edited post).

To give a very laymans example: The bitrate is kinda like the 'amount' of quality in a scene.

If not much is happening (little 'new' detail between frames) then a high bitrate essentially means a better looking scene.

If the bitrate is not high enough for a lot of 'new' data, you get a blocky appearance (as is the case with your videos).

So, if a scene has a lot of fast movement, you need a high bit-rate for all the things changing on screen. If the scene does not have much movement, you don't need a high bitrate. Warframe does have fast movement, so you need a high bitrate as a result... and naturally, this will vary from game to game. A game like Soma, where you move slowly from room to room will look better than Warframe because the bitrate facilitates the amount of detail in the scene.

Ah, thanks, I will try that. Not sure about setting it up, but I will figure it out :)
