-snip-

I'm not sure about XB1 but with PC the chatpad works as you describe'd. Thought by default to use power 5 you should press the power menu button and then left bumper which activates the Power E (Power Menu).

I dunno is it different with XB1 but with PC I'm using D-pad for waypoints and item popup. And "select" button for the mini map/large map. B for crouch, A for jump, X for use and Y for weapon swap. L-bumper for melee R-bumper for power menu. L-stick for toggle run and R-Stick for secondary fire (penta detonation). The reason I have B and A mapped that way is for easy crouch-jumping. It's a compromise I made for fluent Archwing / Normal Parkour missions. Here are some vids how I do with these button mappings.

But with PC I've mapped right side of the chat pad (you can easily access number buttons on top with your right thumb) for energy, ammo and health restores. I use other numbers for scanners and Fomorian disputers and other items. X1 button is for video recording and X2 for screenshots (mapped with nVidia Geforce Experience).
