Question

How often do they come out and what will be the next one? I want to make sure I don't put a orokin reactor on a frame thats going to get primed next. Also should I assume that excalibur prime/umbra will never come out again? ( I want to put a reactor on excalibur)

The next 2 Prime frames will be male. It takes around a 3 months for a new prime set to come out. Excalibur Prime will never come back, ever. Even all the primes were to come back. Excalibur Umbra hasn't come out yet, and it isn't a prime.

DE does around 3-4 Prime Frames a year, the last being Saryn. About every 4 months, give or take a few days, a new prime is released (generally in the order of oldest first and with the pattern of male-male, female-female). With Trinity/Saryn being the last primes to be released, it seems to be the consensus that the next two primes will be male (and most likely, Vauban then Nekros as they are the next oldest).

As a new player, you should first be interested in getting all the regular frames, reaching max level with each and understanding how to use their skills properly. At the same time, you should be running every node on every planet, trying to unlock all the levels and make sure you have access to as many alerts as possible to have a chance at nightmare mods and other events. This will also reward you with a decent sized collection of void keys and mods from enemy drops or mission loot tables, along with oberon parts that randomly drop from everywhere.

Next you should be doing every single major and minor event that pops up, because here is where you will get the most of your reactors and catalysts and other rare items, like forma, etc (but if you don't have the node for the event unlocked, you will need to get a taxi from another player... which can be annoying).

-Reactors and Catalysts come as rewards with invasions/offensives launched by the Grineer or Corpus on random planetary nodes.

Excal Umbra will not be out for months as it will most likely not be brought to our servers until after u19... so don't worry about it (not to mention that he may have a different skill set from regular Excal, so you might have to keep both). As for regular Excal, go ahead and reactor/forma him if you want to/like him, because you will have to do it for Umbra as well, there is no getting away from it (but the Umbra will probably have a few more default polarities then the regular so it will take less time/work to max him). Excal Prime will never be available again because it was a founder's (high) donation reward and they are whiny babies who would probably sue DE and stop playing the game if they brought it back.

The real truth here is, if you play this game enough and are just starting out, just use the resources you have to advance your collection and collect everything (and max it out for mastery rank), because by the time you have gathered the resources, completed the missions, built all the pieces, then built the actual item and claimed it... you should have the opportunity to get another reactor/catalyst.

Realistically, primes are for showing off, once you have the skills to show off. Master the game first, fashion frame comes later.
