having trouble connecting controller.

Controller being installed and connected doesn't mean that the correct drivers are installed for use.

I believe the only controller that will work "out of the box" is an Xbox, I know that I had to download and install another software package to get the PS dual shock controller to work. My guess is you will have to do the same.
