Loss of sound causing insane FPS drops

Hey there,

 

This problem has only started occurring today - I will be mid mission and for some reason my sound will stop working completely (for Warframe and music and other applications). I realize that that particular problem isn't Warframe related however when i troubleshoot the playback device and it fixes for all other applications, Warframe does not fix. When I lose the sound, my game freezes for around 2 seconds and I lose some of the things on the map (eg control panels for interception missions as shown in picture below). FPS drops also begin to happen, usually my PC runs Warframe at 60fps with no problem at all even with other games in the background, but after losing sound I can drop to 1fps for a few seconds and then it fixes itself and repeats the fps drop a few seconds later. Would anyone be aware of any solutions?
