pittax Posted June 21, 2013 Share Posted June 21, 2013 Firstly, it is quite clear that Lotus needs some work to be done soon, seeing how she requests us to "assassinate" mining equipment and how she sees the ground missions as "self destructing ships". This breaks immersion quite often. Even without this, Lotus lacks character. One line can be very professional and AI-like, the other line she acts all friendly with tenno. Either would work, but it needs to be consistent. On top of that, given that she is always there as players are farming through levels, she could do with some quirks, that would cheer those players up. You don't have to tell us her story (I think it would do more harm if you did at this point), but she does need one to give her depth and to fit her in the warframe universe. Is she an AI who is sometimes struggling with her limitations to see the world through the eyes of tenno? Maybe she is a tenno, trying to hide a personal vendetta against the corpus? Maybe she is corpus, who is misleading tenno for her own personal gain? An oracle that saw the future and is gambling on random chances to stop the destruction of tenno? Some great examples that talk to characters from background: Angel (Borderlands); GLaDOS (Portal); Cave Jhonson (Portal): Atlas (Bioshock); Dungeon Keeper 2 narrator; Team Fortress 2 narrator (well not really, but she surprisingly fits here) and there is Alfred (Batman), M (007) and so on. Most of these characters never take up the stage and rarely have lore attached to them (at least at start), but we come to love them very quickly, because they have a lot of depth. With Lotus it's not really the case, it feels like she herself is not sure, what she is trying to be. In a game like this, that relies on farming so much, good announcer can make a massive impact so I would recommend investing some time and effort in fleshing out the one character that is driving the story :] Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
