DDOS: making a comeback...

I wasnt sure if i should place this in general, but i have a growing concern for this and wanted to make fellow tenno aware

A few weeks back you would remember that warframe was hit with a DDOS [denial of service attack]

but this was not isolated to just warframe  ,at the time numerous other sites, services were attacked. and within that weeks span, multiple other sites were attacked in a variance of the same fashion

now what i found interesting is , earlier that week I was at a seminar were we were discussing how DDOS was on the low this year, then literally 2 days later it was rampant ....irony

Frequency range of ddos attacks 2016 prior to current ones

at the time of warfarmes DDOS I brought this up at a meeting and discussed the possibility that a new kit for DDOS had been made available on the market, and possibly it was being run in a trial phase. as this seemed to utilize minor devices like cameras and such to direct the attack

On friday DYN was hit with a very large DDOS that afflicted several sites ..twitter, photobucket,paypal,netflix...ect the list goes on

this caused a wide spread issue  >news<

it used a vastly more complex variation of the before attacks and seems to utilize infected devices to throw up the attack

the devices are infected with software without the users knowledge, basically anything that could connected to the net was fair game, land line,  wifi, home wifi  ...ect

phones, camera, laptops, printers, baby monitors were of some of the devices infected

id strongly urge you to check your tech, update and verify that yours has not been infected , many antivirus/malware companies are updating their libraries to accommodate for this

Id also like to point out that this is only the tip of the iceberg, and fear it will only continue to escalate down the way ...

as always , stay safe tenno

From what I was told, much of the trouble came from a Mirai botnet which was itself taking advantage of vulnerabilities in Chinese-made hardware.

clarification: there is more than one "Mirai botnet," and I don't know if any of these have participated jointly in any attacks.
