Congratulations on your acquisition of the best Warframe for killing Sentient!

Limbo is a complex Warframe whose powers radically alter the scale of the mission.

So let's talk about what he does and what you can do with him.

First of all, his passive.  Limbo can doot in and out of the Rift by pressing the dodge roll key - however, Limbo cannot perform a forward dodge roll, as he is far too sophisticated for that nonsense.  Instead, he performs a gentlemanly forward dash and shifts between planes.  Entering the Rift in this manner creates a portal for your other upper-class friends (read: other Tenno in your squad) to also enter the Rift for a short period of time.  Entities in opposing planes still have collision physics, but weapon attacks will phase through each other.  Warframe abilities, however, will reach across the Rift as though you were in the same plane.

While you or any of your allies are in the Rift, you gain 2 energy regeneration per second.  In addition, any enemy that dies while you and it are both in the Rift will grant you 10 energy.

Limbo's first ability is Banish, and it does exactly that.  Upon activation, all entities within a decently-sized cone in front of Limbo are banished from his plane (and therefore sent to the other one), taking damage and being knocked down.  If you are in the material plane they will be sent to the Rift, and vice versa.  Banishing an ally will send them to the Rift until either the duration runs out or they roll/backflip out of it, while an enemy will suffer damage and knockdown and remain until duration or death.

His second ability is Stasis, which is frankly the most overpowered ability the game has ever seen - and Trinity's Blessing used to have unlimited range, heal everyone to full, and give the whole squad total invulnerability for 30 seconds.  When cast, everything in the Rift that isn't a Tenno is frozen in place - enemies and projectiles alike.  They remain there until one of three things happens:

  • duration ends
  • ability is canceled
  • too many projectiles are suspended

at which point time resumes and all projectiles and enemies resume motion.  You can freeze any projectile, whether it's hitscan or travel.

His third ability is Rift Surge, which can only be cast on enemies within the Rift (Limbo does not need to be in the Rift for this to work).  All enemies within range will gain surge until the duration ends.  A surged enemy that leaves the rift will blow its surge, pulling itself and all nearby enemies into the Rift for another duration.  If a surged enemy dies while in the Rift, it will transfer its surge to the nearest enemy in the material plane.  Any enemy pulled into the Rift with Rift Surge will suffer damage and knockdown.

His ultimate ability is Cataclysm, which creates a spherical shell of Rift energy that pulls everything inside it into the Rift.  The Cataclysm will shrink with time until it reaches duration or is canceled, at which point it will detonate.  Allies can freely switch between planes by stepping in or out of the sphere, and weapon attacks will be ineffectual against anything on the other side of the border.  In addition, players cannot interact with anything requiring a context action prompt (except reviving a comrade) while inside the Rift.

So, how to use Limbo?  Well, that depends entirely on what you're trying to do.  Do you want to be a DPS, Bomb, Support, CC, or Sentient Slayer?

If DPS, you'll want to amp up dat strength as much as possible while keeping efficiency above 100% and turning duration and range into a dump stats.  With this build your strategy is simple: spam Banish everywhere.  Enemies will be left in a perpetual state of getting knocked on their аsses, and the damage from the ability will eventually kill them.  Alternatively, you can Banish them to knock them down and then shoot them in the dιck with whatever primary weapon suits your fancy.  This Limbo build relies on getting close to enemies before Banish-spamming/shooting them, so you'll be spending every second where you're not directly attacking the enemies in the Rift to both ensure that you aren't ganked from long range and that you have energy to use.  Note that this build becomes obsolete after a certain point, as it relies on you being outside the Rift to function, and at that point a Limbo that exits the Rift for any reason dies almost instantly.

If Bomb Limbo, you'll want to amp up dat strength and range as much as possible, again turning duration into a dump stat, but this time you don't necessarily need to keep efficiency super high- just don't let it get too low or you'll run out of energy really fast.  Your strategy is simple: enter the Rift, find a crowd of enemies, and toggle Cataclysm on and off around them to deal a considerable amount of damage very quickly.  This build suffers at higher levels as enemies have increasingly large health pools and the damage will quickly become negligable - however, the constant knockdown from Cataclysm makes for decent CC in a pinch - provided you have an EV Trin to keep you topped up on energy so you can continue to spam Cataclysm.

If Support, your first priority will be to acquire the Haven augment for Banish.  Then you'll want to build for high strength and range, while efficiency is again above 100% and duration is once again a dump stat.  Your strategy is more or less the same thing as the DPS build, except that you will now Banish your allies to heal them - the short duration will mean that even if they don't know they can exit the Rift at will, they'll return to the material plane quickly enough that eventually they'll realize they're being healed.  Since you can also revive allies who are in the other plane, you'll be spending every second in the Rift unless you're Banishing an ally to heal them.  Since you're staying in the Rift, your effectiveness won't really ever diminish all that much - just remember that 4 players' worth of enemies will be spawning, but you won't be shooting any of them since you're staying in the other plane playing medic.

Limbos built around crowd control have completely different priorities.  They want duration and range to be high so you can get a lot of enemies crowd controlled for long periods of time.  You can let strength be a dump stat this time, as your focus is around keeping the enemy in a place where they can't hurt you rather than killing them.  Your strategy for this build will be to stay in the Rift at all times, and when a large crowd of enemies show up, cast Cataclysm and then Stasis, and then ignore them all until Stasis is about to run out, at which point you cast Rift Surge before releasing both Stasis and Cataclysm before casting Stasis again.  This works because Rift Surge has an infinite number of targets provided all of them are in range, and then the banish from Rift Surge will bring them and all their friends into the Rift for Stasis to freeze them again.  This build is solid all the way into endgame, as stopping an enemy from moving has the same effect regardless of level.

Finally, Sentient Slayer Limbo requires you to have an extremely high-damage hitscan weapon with you - I personally like the Sancti Tigris, as it requires the fewest number of bullets to produce the greatest amount of damage in an area (Tigris Prime would also work, but you're never facing just Sentient in a mission, and the Sancti Tigris has a much higher spread, allowing you to hit more enemies with each shot).  You build for high duration and efficiency, and you can experiment with range a bit - I find about 120% to be more than enough to get the job done.  Your strategy is simple:

  • For a single Sentient:  When the Sentient shows up, cast Stasis, then Banish his аss and enter the Rift.
  • For multiple Sentient:  When the Sentient show up, cast Stasis and enter the Rift if you haven't already.  When they get close to each other, cast Cataclysm.

Once you have the Sentient in the Rift, simply aim at each Sentient in turn and pump the Trigger on your Sancti Tigris once for every thirty enemy levels, then release Stasis.  The pellets will all contact the Sentient before they have time to adapt, killing them easily.  This build will kill Sentient at any level, provided you have enough bullets (and since you have 120 maximum reserve ammo and Sentient spawn in groups of two or three, you'll never not have enough dakka).

Whatever build you play, know that being Limbo, while incredibly fun and rewarding, will take a lot of practice to do well, and that you will never be thanked - only yelled at by people who have likely never seen a good Limbo player before and are just yelling at you because they see Limbo and only remember all the trolls they've run into in the past.

If you have any more questions, I'd be happy to answer them!
