I have been falling behind on the Mods that have been coming out. While trying to find them, I kept ending up in the wiki. Not too big of a deal, but I thought it could be simple enough to bring a simple system in game to address this. 

 

Add A feature to the codex to highlight a mod you want to acquire. Then in missions have any enemy unit or object that drops said mod have a glow, mark, or effect to let you know it’s a target. If this is too good, you could make it so this is only visible with the codex scanner active. 

 

A step further, you can equally have some graphical indication on the star chart, showing the planets and tile sets you need to go to. 

 

If you want to build this up a little you could make this a clan tech intel tree that can be researched.
