Optional Dodge Moves For Warframes

Fighting the new Golem somehow made me use the dodge mechanics a lot more, even though it's not needed. I just feel like it's more fun and badass to dodge the scythe strike with a handspring at the last second, regardless of the fact that I have both Link and Blessing activated. After reading this topic, it reminded me of an idea:

https://forums.warframe.com/index.php?/topic/108638-while-everyone-is-talking-about-nekros-3-ability/

In the same way as how Warframe idle animations work, I thought it could be nice to spice up the dodge mechanics by adding unique dodge animations depending on the Warframes.

1. The ideas

Taking inspiration from Ninja Gaiden and Mass Effect 3's Multiplayer, here are some ideas:

- Acrobatic: This style will make Warframes do cartwheels when dodging on the side, and maybe a slight handspring when dodging forward. I think it will be fitting for certain female Warframes like Mag and Banshee. The cartwheels will be more "nimble" instead of a traditional cartwheel. As reference, here's two segments where Mag does it in the Open Beta trailer:

-- For forward roll: http://youtu.be/Gx5RDaGVkZE?t=25s

-- For side dodging: http://youtu.be/Gx5RDaGVkZE?t=1m45s

-- Alternative for side dodge: http://youtu.be/ul4DLf2QYUY?t=16s

- Hop-jumps: This could be fitting for Frames like Rhino. Instead of rolling, the Warframe will do a sidestep hop and dodge in the process. The back handspring will be replaced by a backstep, and forward roll will be a short hop as well.

- Shadow steps: Taken from Ninja Gaiden 3, this is similar to the Hops/steps, but instead of hop-jumping, the Warframe will move with their body low and "slide". No matter which side you dodge, it will be this type of "slide". This would be fitting for Ash (obviously), Loki and Excalibur. Can extend it to Frost to increase his maneuverability (like a short Sub-Zero slide, idea by Psychopozzie).

- Levitate: Similar to Hop-jumps as well, but with certain visual flare to match the Warframe's power. This could be good for Nova, Nyx and Volt (Cole MacGrath, anyone?), possibly extending Nekros.

2. What will these do?

- It will help defining the Warframe even further the way we want, along with their abilities, appearance and idle animation.

- It can be purely for flourish (screenshots or random fun at extraction/during mission)

- Or it can be used in battle like the current dodge roll, such as the J-2k Golem, Kril and so on (if they keep on working on the dodge mechanics and enemy's AI/accuracy it may be of even better use).

- It won't be forced upon you; it will be a choice to keep the current dodge roll, or the new dodge depending on your Warframe.

3. So why is this in Warframes & Abilities Feedback and not Art & Animation Feedback?

In ME3 multiplayer, the different dodge animations/mechanics actually have their own weaknesses and advantages. Some are faster but with shorter range, while some others have long range, but a longer cooldown. I think it could be nice to put these in here as well to further the dodge mechanics, since it's more than aesthetics (like the idle animation).

Here are some quick examples based on the suggestions above"

3 "stats" will be mentioned:

- Distance (traveling distance of the dodge)

- Execution (speed of the dodge animation itself)

- Recovery (cooldown before the next dodge; probably won't affect your other moves, such as melee after a dodge)

- Acrobatic: Longer distance than the roll. Same execution speed as roll, it will have a slightly slower recovery for the next dodge. Great for closing distance or quickly evade explosions due to travel distance.

- Hop-jumps: Fast in execution, very fast recovery, but shorter distance than the regular roll. Good for a quick dodge and counter maneuver, or closing in to a target slightly out of melee reach. The jump will allow for dodging even Shockwave MOA's blast.

- Shadow steps: Slightly shorter distance than roll, but slightly longer than Hop-jumps. Very fast in execution, but slightly slower recovery (slightly faster than Acrobatic). Best one to simply dodge incoming shots due to its extremely high speed, as well as to quickly go in a cover near you. Can be used to go behind a targets easily.

- Levitate: Slightly longer distance than Acrobatic. Slower execution speed than roll with a slightly slower recovery than Acrobatic and Shadow steps, but the nature of it can float you over certain platforms, adding an unique maneuver as trade-off for the slower stats. Can dodge shockwaves as well.

Surely not a priority in terms of addition due to all the Warframes needing tweaks/buffs constantly, but just putting this idea out there to discuss.

I agree. i loved how the different classes in ME3 multiplayer did different dodges, even if i am unable to use dodge since i main the geth juggernaut. it brings more uniqueness to each character, i would also think each frame would have different particle effects i mean loki should have the particles from his switch ability, while ash should have the smoke particles from his arm covering him while doing the shadow step, same for those with elemental powers. (would frost do a sub zero slide thing?)
