I'd like to start with a personal anecdote in order to paint a more accurate picture:
Back in 2021, when the Sisters of Parvos update dropped, I was a part of a relatively large clan, though it was populated mostly by Tenno who seemed to have quit the game, and certainly nobody who ever used Clan chat. Among those offline Tenno happened to be nearly every architect, which posed an issue: Yareli had just released, and to get her without spending Platinum, you need to build the Ventkids' Bash Lab in the Dojo, but there was nobody aroud that could build rooms. And even then, the Dojo could not fit an extra room in the "Lab zone", which would've meant waiting for deconstruction, then constructing connectors... in short: quite a bit of investment to keep order. And all that investment would've been for a handful of blueprints. Ultimately, I left with a friend to make our own Dojo, where we could build things at our own pace.
Fast-forward to nowadays. Our Dojo had solidified into an "utility-first" "design". We had all the labs, a Dry Dock, Navigation... a very basic Dojo. Abyss of Dagath came out, and, just our luck, we had an open connection in our "Lab zone" that could fit Dagath's Hollow... were it not deceptively massive. We ended up building it in another random location, far away from every other lab, again, just for a few blueprints. We decided to rebuild our Dojo from the ground up recently, and I had to plan everything out with this (very useful) CAD tool just to make absolutely sure I could fit Dagath's Hollow next to everything else. In my opinion, no player should ever have to do that just to get a few items. And then I looked back at the Bash Lab: no new items since 2021, when the Ghoulsaw was added, and I fear that the same will happen to Dagath's Hollow; after all, what other items can you even put there?
With that said, I'd like to make my points:
These highly specific labs become obsolete fast. Not only do they have very few items, the chances of items being added to them is very slim if we take the Ventkids' Lab as an example and none of the items are "evergreen" like Gravimags or resource blueprints.
Adding new rooms can be a large logistical issue. I can only imagine what Dojos that hit the 128 room limit prior to Dagath had to do in order to build Dagath's Hollow; nevermind the room limit, Energy, Capacity and physical space must be addressed when building rooms, especially one as large as Dagath's Hollow.
The labs that currently exist are neglected. The Orokin Lab has had the same 4 items since 2016, the Grineer, Corpus and Infested Labs haven't received a new item since 2020 (discounting the Ignis Wraith becoming pubically available) and the Tenno Lab only receives the odd Pigment.
I believe those issues are pressing/annoying enough to where I wouldn't like to see new labs added to the game.
Of course, no dissertative-argumentative essay is complete without some suggestions:
Move items between labs. I understand that K-Drive Scrawls aren't quite the right fit for the Corpus Lab, but I'd much rather have that than a room that does nothing in our Dojo except gather dust in the hopes that it might have something new someday. Dagath has no excuse, though; she fits better with all the other Warframes in the Tenno Lab, and you can move the story to an Orbiter decoration (ala the Whispering Naberus Mobile) sold by Grandmother year-round along with the Prex. You can even change the interiors of the labs so it makes more sense, like adding some Solaris decor to the Corpus Lab, or even adding a second terminal which contains exclusively Solaris/Ventkids research, just like how the Tenno Lab has a terminal for Pigments and another for Backdrops.
Change the labs into decorations. Imagine that, instead of having a lab for the Ventkids, we could build a marketplace or similar (in the form of a Dojo decoration) for them inside our existing rooms, where they would sell you the items that are currently sold in the Bash Lab. It would be much more compact and, most importantly, not demand the construction of an additional room for a handful of items. Plus, adding more NPCs to Dojos would make them feel more lively and open the possibility for new design ideas (I can imagine a "trading room" not only having the usual Trading Post, but also rows, even columns of these smaller shops to add some flavor).
I believe either of those would be net positives for the game. I don't believe it's my place to dictate what should happen to the existing rooms should these changes be implemented. My only request is that no more labs be added to Dojos. Thank you for reading.
