https://imgur.com/a/RqXvaHZ As seen in this video, if you change your loadout on the star chart screen, your companion is automatically unequipped. It doesn't seem to work on sentinels; I tested wyrm prime, a smeeta, an adarza, and a vulpaphyla and all of the "animal" companions were unequipped.

Korrudo is a flat gray color in the orbiter. See attached image. It is not affected by colors (besides energy) and they look entirely normal in missions.
