  1. Because Exalted Blade is so good his gameplay now literally consists of hitting 4 once and then proceeding to spam the hell out of E repeatedly.  Hardly compelling gameplay options.

Balance shouldn't be "how OP is this ability compared to other OP abilities on other frames."  There should be a tradeoff for using (or abusing) a powerful ability.

For instance, Exalted Blade could have a cascading increase in energy cost the longer you have it out so it's harder to keep it up indefinitely.

Or, having it out could lock out your other abilities like Slash Dash or Blind causing the player to have to choose between one or the other.

These are just examples.  I know in the forums its popular to defend the faceroll (fingerroll?) nature of the game currently but such simplistic and broken mechanics are not good for the long term health of a supposed 3rd person action shooter.

  2. Infinite scaling enemies is a Band-Aid approach to "end game" content.  By allowing spammable abilities and over the top crowd control [DE] has painted themselves into a corner.  And with [DE] Scott's incomprehensible aversion to cooldowns I'm not sure it will ever improve.

"Balance" shouldn't be that everything eventually hits like a wet noodle if you survive long enough.

There ironically exists a "sweet spot" where you're no longer 1 shotting every enemy, and you can no longer face tank incoming fire.  Where taking cover, and strategic use of abilities becomes necessary.  It lasts for about 5 minutes before you're *required* to spam CC and hide in a freakin' sewer so you don't get 1-shot.

One Devstream, [DE] Rebecca cited the existence of it - the COMMUNITY MODERATOR.  But somehow the actual Devs are oblivious.  Go figure.

  3. Dear [DE],

I've played Warframe now more than a year and I've "mained" Excalibur for a variety of reasons.  One of the reasons is I felt he was one of the more balanced frames in the game (ignoring Radial Blind abuse).  More specifically, his "ultimate" Radial Javelin required line of sight and could not be spammed effectively requiring players to be strategic, often using it after Super Jump for synergy.

Fast forward to the current rework (and after the dark days of Radial Javelin spam) with a new "ultimate" - Exalted Blade.  In the final form after some hotfixes there exists some puzzling decisions which skews balance into "Overpowered" territory.

    - Exalted Blade waves go through solid objects.  I can understand if a certain amount of Punch Through is inherent in the ability when hitting enemies.  But as it is you can spam waves into closed doors and through floors to decimate enemies which haven't even entered line of sight.

    - Exalted Blade procs Syndicate mods despite not equipping the melee weapon.  It's understandable if the 100% damage is added but why is the powerful AOE proc occurring when this is not the case when using melee with a Primary equipped?

    - Exalted Blade waves damage Nullifier shields.  The Nullifier was introduced I would assume to counter ability spam and is usually one of the few enemies that requires players to adapt on the fly.  How is it then that the waves are not negated by the shield like every other ability?

    - Exalted Blade can be used indefinitely.  With the use of a Corrupted Mod (the source of so many balance issues) it's very easy to keep Exalted Blade up and since it's so utterly effective there is little cause *not* to have it out 24/7.

I am a huge proponent for balance from the start especially with the current meta which does not bare repeating here.  Please consider some of the above points in current and future frame reworks.

*DISCLAIMER*  While I welcome any feedback from players the above was addressed to [DE] on the small chance it might be read.  Having been in the forums long enough I know that any talk of balance/retuning/nerfing will be met with vocal and immediate disapproval.

  4. So I recently discovered this after attempting to use Ash with a Smoke Screen duration melee build.  I rely on Wyrm with Deth Rifle to proc Arcane Strike continuously especially when I'm using a slow-ish weapon like Scindo Prime.  When it wasn't happening I realized he would only attack when out of stealth.

This is probably how it's been for awhile but I think if you include the Warrior (or attack related) Precept on a sentinel it should fire regardless of stealth ability used.  Otherwise, it's usefulness on Ash or Loki is incredibly diminished.

  5. Yes, the vertical wall hopping did look awkward.  I don't anticipate I'll be using it any more than necessary.

What I worry about is, "how will players utilize/exploit this new verticality?"  A question, given the current state of the game, [DE] should ALWAYS ask themselves before releasing new content.

Instead of sewer camps on particular maps can we expect "ceiling camps" on a host of maps?

While I applaud [DE] for attempting to evolve their game, especially movement, I find it ironic that it comes at a time where the current meta is "use an energy pizza or invite a Gmag, and sit in a spot and press 4 over and over."

  6. The only thing that was clear to me after reading the post is that the OP does need a break.

Anyone at MR19 likely did a lot of monotonous XP farming which is enough to break any sane gamer.  It's sad that high Mastery is somehow being gauged by the community as a good thing or a worthy achievement.  It's levelling weapons/frames for the sake of levelling weapons and frames and not because you find it enjoyable.

So much of what frustrates players of this game (besides apparently, bugs) is the "grind."  It's a FREE to PLAY game.  You cannot expect to be given everything quickly and easily for FREE.  [DE] has to make money and if one does not want to grind there is the alternative of purchasing it in the Market or Trade with platinum.

Above all, just play the game.  Forsake the illusion that you need every frame, weapon, mod, resource, etc. NOW and just play the game.  You'll be much happier for it.  (Until you realize that every match has a Mesa who will play the game for you with only a press of a single button).

  7. People who are defending Greedy Pull are people who realize that the problem (energy system loophole, grind etc) stems deeper than Greedy Pull and that Greedy Pull just highlights the issue better.

Would you rather people who defend Greedy Pull call those who want to nerf Greedy Pull mad and intolerant (guys he's farming faster than me) because other people just want to do things efficiently?

Don't try to attack the player, please.

No one is attacking the player.  I think we are both in agreement that the energy system is fundamentally flawed as a limiting resource to prevent ability abuse.  But let's not kid ourselves.  People who Press 4 to Win and defend Greedy pull are those who wish to continue exploiting this broken system for the sake of ease and convenience.

The "grind," as it were, is a self-imposed compulsion to "catch them all."

I don't blame the player for the state of the game or the desire to be efficient.  [DE] should have addressed these issues BEFORE they were released to the general community.  The genie in the bottle dilemma.  But sometimes you have the save the player from themselves.  And that takes bold design decisions that [DE] are slow, if not entirely reluctant, to make.

That is the curse of the Free to Play model.

  8. I've come to realize that those that defend Lazy..err Greedy Pull and Press 4 to Win in general are playing a different game than I.

I am attempting to play a 3rd person action shooter with parkour, and melee options featuring cool Space Ninjas.

They are attempting to play a slot machine that spews xp, or parts, or resources, by "efficiently" circumventing gameplay.

One way is challenging and fun, and the other is predictable, and safe.  Which game do you think [DE] had intended in their WARframe concept?

  9. There are 2 types of people playing this game currently.

    1) Those that came for the 3rd person action shooter with Space Ninjas are one.

    2) Those that came for 1) but are now quite content to circumvent the pesky challenge of gameplay and blissfully press a button repeatedly in the hopes that RNG will bestow on them their heart's desire.

I think [DE] should just have a map with constantly spawning enemies and every button blows up the entire map so farmers can achieve their zen-like compulsion for efficiency.

Then finally balance the game for everyone else that actually wants to play the game how it was intended.

  10. Yes, I would like to know who at [DE] had the genius idea of creating a mod that would effectively let you stand in one spot all match and fuel Press 4 to Win better than any Energy Pizza.

At least rename it to "Lazy Pull" and stop with the pretense.

It highlights the problem with energy as a limiting resource that is anything but "limiting."  I fear [DE] has given up on preserving the "Space Ninja" theme and is going full "Press 4 to Win" since people want to circumvent gameplay to "catch them all."

  11. I'm pretty convinced [DE] has given up on balance and is fine with the current Farmframe meta which has exploded.  One look at Recruiting and it's clear the majority of players are interested in circumventing gameplay altogether and just PvRNG.

[DE] can always point to the ingenius infinite scaling "endgame" where everything is "balanced" because weapons and abilities hit like wet noodles if you go long enough.

You have to artificially request a makeup that isn't faceroll by banning popular Press 4 to Win frames like Mesa, Gmag, and Slow Nova.  But yes a 4 spamming Mirage also kills the challenge and fun as well.

  12. [DE] is horrible at balance.  The fact that 98% of this game can be dumbed down to standing in one spot and pressing a button repeatedly is testament to that.

Strangely, modern gamers see no issue with that.  One look at recruiting chat is proof enough.  Remove the risk/challenge and all you have left is RNG.

[DE] has made some half hearted stabs at balance but the blowback by the community is always so vociferous I fear they have given up.

If the kids just want to stand in a spot and press a button for hours on end let them, and let the integrity of your artistic vision be damned I guess.  At the end of the day [DE] gots to eat.

  13. As much as I would love Greedy Pull (Lazy) Pull to die and press 4 to win to go away...it won't.  [DE] will not even formally address that 98% of their "Space Ninja" game can be trivialized by pressing one button continuously.

The reason is easily seen in responses to these type of balance posts - far too many "gamers" are very content to reducing the game to such simplistic mechanics purely for the sake of farming xp, parts, cores etc. in an effort to "catch them all."

It's basically Pokémon.  It keeps the kids playing (and hopefully paying).

If you get lucky (and find a game without Mesa, Gmag, slow Nova) you can actually experience the potential of this game with some challenging gameplay, fierce fire fights, and strategic use (not abuse) of abilities.  But it's rare.

  14. It is known that Radiant Finish does a stupid amount of damage.  Players can spam Radial Blind and constantly watch finisher animations and pat themselves on the back on how skillful they are.

It's about as interactive as Ash players who only Bladestorm all mission and get top kills and damage for watching a continuous cutscene.

Here's hoping 2016 is the Year of Balance.

  15. Sadly, I think by dumbing down the game to allow for 1 button mashing [DE] is actually retaining more players. Just look at Recruiting chat and all the *need* <insert Press 4 to Win frame>. The backlash if they were to try to salvage the promise of the 3rd person action shooter would have hordes of casual and Pokémon players threatening to jump ship.

If they can't just stand in one place and spam a button to farm their umpteenth weapon or frame they have no interest in other than the Mastery it would have them, ironically, up in arms.

The fact that [DE] has not once addressed the current meta even remotely in a post or Devstream speaks volumes. (Ok, [DE] Scott shook his head once when indirectly referencing it). It's the elephant in the room.

The game's tagline has gone from "Where Ninjas Play Free" to "Where you only have to press a button while you catch them all (But you *can* still be a Ninja since technically no one is making you press a button)"

  16. Wow Mike you took that way too literally and personally.  It was clearly a joke and not even directed at you.

The point, had I elected to leave out the humor, was Warframe has devolved to a farming simulator where people are content to sit in a spot and press a button because its easy and efficient.  For hours at a time.  Why would anyone do that?

Because they play the game to farm and level weapons and frames they have no interest in playing for some arbitrary Mastery rank number.  It's no longer a strategic, action 3rd person melee/shooter when everyone is bringing a Gmag and Mesa.  Or spamming Press 4 to Win on a host of other frames.

The game is fundamentally flawed and while DE holds the brunt of the blame it's the players feeling "forced" to be uber-efficient that "fun" and "challenge" have to be petitioned to be brought back.

  17. "High Mastery" has never been and should never be a "bragging right."

All it says is you've sank a ridiculous number of hours levelling weapons and frames you probably never even enjoyed most likely using some kind of uber-efficient farming method with as little actual interaction as possible.

It would have been time MUCH better spent doing something constructive with your life like say, going back and getting the degree you promised you would.  Stop putting it off.  Go back to school.

Your parents would more proud of that than to boast their son hit "Mastery Rank 20 after only 500 hours!  He didn't even spend any money!  So frugal our son."

  18. Ahh, the "Completionist."  That one self-ascribed moniker would have us believe you're somehow forced to be uber-efficient.  After all there's SO many weapons, and frames, that it's only natural in your pre-ordained quest to "catch them all."

Let's be honest.  People are lazy.  Period.  And if poor game design allows you to be ridiculously successful by pressing 1 button people will do it.

That's not the game we came to play initially.  But if pressing one button in an ongoing effort to "catch them all" keeps you playing (and maybe paying) then DE will allow you to do it till your eyes bleed and you get tendonitis in your "press 4" finger.

Because if they ever did "fix" the game where you couldn't press 4 to win or sewer camp you would howl and rant and rave.  So keep pressing a button even HARDER and LONGER and maybe that part will drop.  You need it.  You must have it.  But do you even know why?

  19. The game was profoundly impacted with the release of Corrupted mods as if zero testing was done beforehand to see what the overall impact would be.

First, it was M Prime spamming Novas blowing up entire rooms of enemies.

Then, with the release of Syndicates, a farming method was perfected showcasing just how overpowered those mods were coupled with broken frame abilities.  To fuel this stationary abomination people began utilizing Energy restores which before, were rarely seen or used.

And now you have Human Energy Restores called Greedy Pull Mag fueling Press 4 to Win frames like Mesa who literally stand in one spot and press a button.

Warframe has devolved from a very fun, exciting 3rd person action melee/shooter hybrid to a stale, (but efficient!) "I Win" button farming simulator.

  20. They need to just release maps with moderate to good drop potential that people can "farm" where there is one button that blows up the whole map with no cooldown and no pesky energy requirements.  People can just go there, press a button repeatedly, and bask in how "efficient" they are being.

For the people that actually want to play a 3rd person action shooter with Space Ninjas they can release maps with objective based cooperative gameplay, diverse enemies requiring different strategies to defeat, an ability system that is powerful but can't be abused, weapons which are integral to success, and missions which escalate till you inevitably and definitively conquer them.

The payoff, and the draw for gamers, is an exciting and challenging gameplay experience! (And what drops and when is a secondary consideration)

  21. Kudos if you used a combination of weapons, cover, and strategic use of abilities to accomplish the mission however...

If all you did was spam Radial Blind and perform finishers using the Radiant Finish mod it's just more exploitive gameplay underpinning the problem with Warframe, ability spam, and energy.

  22. Where does this compulsion stem from that you feel you MUST have the newest Warframe/weapon as soon as its released that you petition [DE] to "slow down?"

This is what drives the current 1 button meta that is killing this game.  People are a slave to the idea they must "catch it all" and the game becomes about collecting things in the most efficient way possible than actually playing the game.
