I know that there are a lot of Threads on the current Shield Gating system already, but I feel that some key factors are being ignored in most discussions.
First off, this topic will pertain largely to survivability in high level endurance Steel Path content.
Secondly, there's no denying that the shield gating mechanic was a godsend to squishy, but high-damage frames that, before it's introduction, we're a near non-option in Steel Path.
And Third: Now Tenno, I understand you don't want it nerfed because it gives you a lot of build variety, and you don't want to lose that. But the truth is some frames (glass-cannons) SHOULD need help surviving in high level content to encourage team play and survivability synergy -- but even if that was not true and you do not agree, there should be another option for their survival besides complete invincibility forever (as of currently, and admittedly, there isn't).
What I take issue with is the mechanic's implementation: You can slap a decaying dragon key on just about any frame in the game, and they become 100% invincible for eternity so long you spam a calculated ability. Run out of energy? Just throw Nourish or use Equilibrium on them. Need longer I-frames? Pair with Rolling Guard. Shields not low enough? Auger Mods.
Health, Armor, and Healing become meaningless past enemies lvled in the thousands.
But largely, shield gate abuse makes many support frames near-useless (aside from energy provision) which is a real shame. Why bother giving teammates more shields, armor, health, or cc? You're just saving them a button click or giving them non-scaling DR.
I am not saying that we should have to gimp our entire builds for survivability either (i.e. health and armor). I for one just believe that these high-damage but squishy frames should have both a chance to shine, and be in some danger. A buffed health and armor system would never compete with complete damage immunity. And even though I'd like to see support frames actually be needed and/or required--no amount of armour, DR, or healing can help you adequately against lvl 9000 enemies.
There should be other options other than a shield-yo-yo.
So what do you think? What could DE implement to fix this problem assuming you agree that there is one?
