Fortuna skybox object

Just looking for thoughts on what it might be, Im very hyped for personal battle ships so Im guessing its that, but what do you think this object in the skybox in the distance is?

Weren't those one of the early dev concept art pieces for the cooling towers? (or something to do with them)

I seem to recall Geoff saying something about blocks of ice going up into the sky, then crashing down. The concept might have been from around that time (but too long ago for me to remember clearly).
