I like asking people a question. It is : Imagine you're walking alone in a slum at midnight, returning from home. You get jumped, and you know you can defend yourself, if you stay calm. What do you choose : A big human rights text from Facebook, or a fully loaded M1911? Like, a physical text that I can beat them with? I choose that one. Nowadays it ain't uncommon to see people carrying balisongs or other kinds of blades around. Reminds me of... Texas, IIRC. I heard that over there concealed carry permits for firearms are hard to get while non-concealed carry permits are quite easy to get. I saw this crazy picture of practically everyone openly carrying around guns such as rifles, handguns, shotguns... at a supermarket. I'm not well versed on Texas gun laws, but I'm pretty sure you don't need a permit for open carry. Sounds like those idjits were exercising their 1st amendment right of free speech by running around with fully operational firearms. Ya know, out in the open, where anyone can just grab and run with the damn thing fully loaded. America, sometimes, I just, uhg.

That is extremely, if not impossible to achieve unless you're military, rich, or police. You know why it's that hard for the population to have guns? Because if it was easy, our politicians wouldn't make our justice such a circus.

Maybe not Texas but I watched the news about someplace that had changes in gun laws(legit news not a joke/spoof, if I remember correctly). Not just men, moms with kids, young ones that seemed to be barely old enough to be adults were carrying around guns in the open like purses or backpacks. EDITED: Oh, yeah. Probably they don't need permits for open-carrying in the first place... Edited December 12, 2016 by NativeKiller

The slum scenery is just a way to make it easy for people to imagine it here, since pretty much big part of the population lives in them, but in truth, it's the same thing everywhere. Just imagine you're walking alone anywhere, it could even be a big urban avenue. If I tell you that criminals here are ready for that, you wouldn't believe it. The question is pretty unrealistic though, in truth, the criminal ratings are very low in the slums. Because here, in the slums, the factions have their own kind of law. In example, if you rob someone and one of the druglords know it, you'll be tortured and possible lose a hand. If you rape someone, you have a horrible and slow death then is put as an example for others, and on, and on... But the media only shows what they decide is the truth, so people don't believe it until they see it.

I used to talk a mile home from the bus stop, and most nights I had an escort of large black men the entire way, because they felt I was too pretty to be walking around so late and they didn't want me to get "pulled into an ally" by someone. I was talking to a friend of mine, who was a cop, about it and that's when I found out I was being walked around by three different gangs for about a year and never had a clue. Here a 12 year old can shoot you in the gut, laugh about it, and IF they get caught, nothing happens. In example the case of that one boy who raped a woman for 5 days straight, decapitated her boyfriend, then, after torturing her for some time, he decapitated her as well with a rusty machete. He didn't even went to prison, he's spending his days locked in his home with a personal assistant.

Snyphurr
Officially, he was sentenced to 124 years of prison, but since he was underage, left-wing human right social justice warriors came in and now he's pretty much free.

I remember doing volunteer work, teaching English to a high school girl. One day, her older brother came to thank me, he was a really nice guy. Later, I learnt that the guy was a frequent visitor of the slammers, mostly for violent behavior.
