With their ability to subvert high levels of technology, the Sentient quickly overwhelm the Orokin. The Sentients fight through proxies, probably intelligent machines on their own but not real Sentients. The Orokin quickly discover that their method of fighting is proved ineffective against the faction, realizing this--They soon resort their soldiers low tech weapons to oppose the Sentient onslaught (which also explains why the Prime weapons uses a relatively simple mechanism, instead of other advanced technology).
