Exterminate missions no enemies to kill

I'm struggling with the invasion missions for nightwave because I keep thinking exterminate missions will be quick. I see now that they are not. I've been in such a mission now for 8 minutes or so and still waiting for the enemies to spawn. Typing to wait out the time. I've had this problem now since the last update where exterminate missions lack enough enemies to hit the counter.

Invasion EXT always had this issue.

Sabotage, Spy and Captures are the fastest

Sometimes it's due to one unit stuck somewhere whereby you need to backtrack and kill it before more units spawn ahead of you.
